Not Broken for PC After All

I was skeptical about the first few reviews on this console port when it came out last October; I held off playing this great game because of it. There were numerous reports of this title being "broken" and almost unplayable/unfit for PC systems. While it's true that it is just another port of a console-optimized game, I was pleased at how easy it was to play on my computer. The controls did take a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of it I had a blast playing the game! The graphics are crisp and clean, the sound is amazing and the atmosphere is real spooky and lifeless. I love it! My only real complaint is that using the keyboard for a lot of the commands gets a bit tedious; the mouse aiming is a little slow in Aim mode, but not too bad. Overall, I see the game as being very playable and far from "broken."

I did however, encounter a bug when I initially tried to play the game, something that should have been looked at when it was released. After reading some forum threads online, I found that having any kind of gamepad plugged into the system causes the game to crash with a C++ error! Only after I unplugged both of my Logitech USB game controllers, the game ran crash-free! Not a major problem, but there wasn't a whole lot of information on this; I think EA is doing the usual of ignoring the matter. Regardless, the game run great and I am very pleased with it overall. 4/5

A Plethora of Unique Gameplay

Dead Space is an engaging third person shooter that has very unique game controls. I liked that health stats, inventory, and etc were integrated into the game and not simply on a pop up menu. However, game play did take awhile to get used to (I kept wanting to look around the character).

Playing on medium difficulty is actually quite challenging. Enemies are intuitive and SCARY. This game continually made me jump in suspense (but then again I am "jumpy"). The story was captivating and not redundant or cliche.

The graphics were smooth and detailed--great game.

Excellent game!

Everything about this game is five star quality. The storyline is solid, the graphics are realistic and detailed and the soundtrack/effects are full and rich. I love games in the horror genre and this one rated one of the best I've played. I played it on my rig I built 5 years ago. Asus P4G 800-V MB, P4 2.6 CPU, 2 GB memory 120GB HD, Sapphire Radeon X 1650 pro, Samsung Syncmaster T190 widescreen monitor and creative 2.1 spreakers with onboard sound. I just met the minimum requirements aside from the CPU, which required a 2.8 P4. The game requires a lot of power to play well. I had to turn off all effects and shaders and also had to turn off all programs, such as Zone Alarm, running in the background. But even with everything off, the game looked great and played decently. The only negative thing I experienced with my minimum power was a good amount of lag and jerking during fight scenes. But even with this glitch, the game is fun to play. The story kept my attention and the difficulty was high...even on the "easy" setting! There are many puzzles to solve and decisions to make. Only 4 or 5 installs for disc, so buy it new. There are several regional versions of the game. Have to install with internet connection and download EA's Download Manager to get patches. Download the "Dead Space Trainer" from http://www.cheathappens.com/show_download.asp?ID=24644 for PC keyboard cheats. Enjoy!Read full review...

Dead Space is a thrill ride that must be experienced

Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10
The graphics are make you look twice – you feel as if you are on the ship with Isaac, and even in deep space. Though the levels look similar, you will see the immediate beauty of this game. It is a difficult thing to be consistent, yet differentiate enough to create an entire ship.

Sound: Amazing – 9.5/10
The sounds, music, effects, and voices take you immediately into the game. Surround sound is a must so you can hear the uttering, chanting, and footsteps of the habitants of this game. A lot of time, and thought, went into putting in effective music, parts with no music, and the fell of being utterly alone. The best, yet simplistic feeling is when you go into space for the first time, and all you hear is your own breath and heartbeat.

Gameplay: Spectacular – 9/10
Smooth animations, large – but intuitive levels, smart enemies and A.I., different possibilities for battles and puzzles – without giving anything away, this game is different, and in a good way. Fans of Bioshock and Resident Evil 4 will feel at home with this. The way you kill enemies is really unique, and fun.

Replay Value – Good 7/10
Even without multiplayer, this game has replay value with the Impossible Difficulty, and they mean that. The only issues I have with the replay is that you will know where the “jump out points” are and will be expecting what will happen.

Overall – Perfect 9/10
I am a fan of Survival Horror and the entire genre. When I play this game, I have to say that this isn’t so much survival horror on the Easy to Hard difficulty settings, being that there is plenty of ammo, stores, and save points, but survival Action. Think of this as a sci-fi movie, and that it is more like Aliens as opposed to Alien. The details and ideas that went in this game prove that risks are still being taken in game development, and they pay off.

Though I say this is a “Survival Action” game, it is so much more. It feels as if it is a “best of” game – meaning that they take the best parts of many games such as Bioshock, Resident Evil 4, Prey, and other games that may fall into such a category. The use of in game story telling, and use of a item menu that is in game and in action, gives a whole new approach to playing the game.

The game is not perfect, but close to. The map is annoying to use, and the use of where to go makes the game a bit easier, but for how the story is set up, it works.

It is difficult for a company to release a new IP these days, and have it be successful, and I feel that Dead Space does just that. Enjoy playing this with the lights off.

It creates its own genre. It has elements taken from genres such as RPG, puzzlers, action-adventures, but is not pigeonholed into this experience. Spending time with this game, it is apparent that EA games wanted to create a cinematic and different experience in a game – and make the horror genre prevalent again.

Re:Turn off the lights, Plug in the headphones, turn them up, and get ready

This game is one of the best Games I have played in a long time. As stated in one of my other reviews here on e bay(my left4dead 2 Review), I am very picky about what I will play, and what I will not play. Upon firing up the game first time, I went straight for the hard core mode. Let me tell you, if you're not use to playing hard core levels in games, I would not recommend you do so in this game, as a lot of concentration, planning, etc are involved in this. The only "flaw" in this, are the controls. This is a third person shooter, and if you're not use to playing First Person/Third Person shooters, you can go into you're settings like I did, and adjust them to your liking. This game also has no cheats, from what I know. I haven't played the sequel yet, so I do not know if there is cheats for that. To sum up this review, if you're looking for an all out action game that at times WILL make you jump, then pick this one up. You will not be disappointed. There's my review.Read full review...

Dead Space is like HL Blueshift but newer!

This is the best game I have played since HL2!
Graphics are incredible! Puzzles aren't brainkillers, but sometimes harder than childsplay.
Physics are well done! No gravity zones and play in those areas are great! Some areas are airless and zero gravity! Blowing enemies away in such areas leaves quite the floating mess! Awesome!
Only six or seven weapons, but they are rather variable and it's fun to carry them all and have to work with available ammo, or you can carry just your fave and find lots of ammo for it. Each works in it's own way with own + and - points.
Some goodies to buy, weapons and armor are upgradeable at certain points in certain ways, lots of reasons to hoard or spend.
Not a lot of creature types, and only a few bosses to beat that aren't that bad. Easy is easy, hard is hard, and impossible mode is...yes...impossible.
Beat the game and let the credits play for unlocked restart with all weapons/armor etc to replay and take out the frustration on those formerly so fearsome enemies.
Not as long as you'd like, but long enough to enjoy taking your time through!
Don't run and rush. Poke around with the volume up. Look into those dark corners and let the game creep you out and you'll enjoy this game very much!

Dead Space PC Game 2008

Graphics are awesome! The game is very realistic looking.
The story is compelling and its progression intriguing.
The action is challenging and very horrifying.
The keyboard/mouse controls are a bit awkward and take some getting used to.
This game is addictive! It's difficult to stop playing!

Excellent Horror Game!

This game is simply amazing with true 5.1 surround sound (yes, even left and right rear speakers are separate channels!) this game will have your heart pounding one scene after another. I played it on a projector, in dark room, with kplisch 300 surround system. I cannot tell how many times it scared the hell outta me, giving me that adrenaline rush that I carved so much! I actually experimented by getting high and playing the game, dude it just is like wow, simply wow. For less than $20 now, you will be a fool to let this game pass. Buy it right now and enjoy!!!!Read full review...

Great Game

Dead Space is a survival horror third-person shooter video game, developed by EA Redwood Shores (now known as Visceral Games) for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, iOS, Blackberry Playbook and Xbox 360. The game was made available on Steam on October 20, 2008. The game puts the player in control of engineer Isaac Clarke, who battles "Necromorphs", monsters created from corpses and an alien virus, aboard an interstellar mining ship, the USG Ishimura. The game was met with positive critical reception, and has sold over 2 million copies. A sequel, Dead Space 2, was released on January 25, 2011.

Integrating some nice variety into one game while maintaining its decidedly action-oriented dynamics, Dead Space is appealing across a wide cross-section of gameplay styles. Wrap an engrossing plot that is a veritable warren of intermingling themes around this and you've got a game that is basically a guaranteed experience.

Dead Space (pc)

If you like a FPS that can scare the bejesus out of you then Dead Space is your cup of tea. I thought FEAR was a spooky FPS but DS beats it by a mile. The only problem I had with the game's story line is that you are continually on some kind of "fix it" mission within the marooned ship. After the first six episods (12 in all) I felt like the Dead Space Maytag repairman. Oh well if you want a great story line go get Bioshock. If you want to get creeped out then enjoy Dead Space. By the way I loved the new kinds of weapons. Nice to get away from the old shotgun and machine gun.
Best,
Al
