The one, The only!

I'm sure at some point you've seen or played the original Final Fantasy. After 20 years Square decided to RE-RE-RE-RE-Release their cult classic series beginner, Final Fantasy.

This game has been out of several systems and now it has made its way to the PSP. The graphics are tweaked a little bit, from the most recent release on the GBA, and the cut-scenes are there from the PSX version as well. This is basically a hybrid between the Playstation version and the GBA version.

In the PSP version there is an auto-run feature used in towns and dungeons, a language selection, the inclusion of the special dungeons from the GBA version, the ability to save anywhere, (HUGE PLUS) and a better audio sound to it. The treasure collector screen has been taken out which was in the PSX and GBA versions, The Bestiary Log is still intact.

This game is very addictive and I found it hard to put down even though I have completed all the other versions multiple times. This game is just one of those games that you can just come back to and still enjoy it. I'm sure this will be the last release of this gem, and it is definitly my favorite version even if it is on a lacking but not exactly appreciated PSP system. Definitive version of Final Fantasy.

If you can get your hands on a PSP, I would definitely recommend this version of the game over the others, as it has enhanced graphics and music and an extra dungeon. As for the game itself, what can I say? Although later installments are better and hold up more, and it may not have Cid or chocobos, this is your basic Final Fantasy that started it all. This game is quite the touch up

Compared to the original game, this game is leaps and bounds better in graphics and gameplay. It still has all the elements that made it the genre defining game it always was, but now with a nice coat of paint. I recommend this for any ff fan or rpg fan for that matter.Read full review...

Can't beat a classic!

The story-line is simple. Basically your party of 4 characters are the warriors of light. Your mission is to find 4 crystals in the world that have grown dark and make them bright again. You can choose your party from a selection of available classes: Warrior, Thief, Black Belt(this version called a monk), Red Mage, White mage, and Black mage. There is a little replay value here since you can try out different combinations for your party. Through your adventure you will aquire a ship, a canoe and a flying ship to aid you in your travels. Light up the crystals to save the world and fulfill the prophecy!

I own the original FF game on nintendo. I also own FF origins for PS1 which includes FF1 and FF2. I must say, the graphic quality is just beautiful! The monsters and your characters in the combat screen look amazing (compared to nintendo). There is some added content to explore, but you can't "finish" these secret locations until close to the end of the game. You can wander around and get neat items in chests, but the bosses are about unbeatable even around level 20-somethin. The extra "dungeons" are unique though. One even includes floors that look like you are on the surface world!

Now if you grew up never playing a nintendo game, and only like games if they are flashy, have cut scenes and frill.. this game is not for you. It's a classic, old school, and not all that long.

Since being ported to other systems the gameplay is much easier than the original. You couldn't use certain items in combat and you had to plan each round of attack very carefully in the original game. If two characters attacked the same creature and the first one killed it, the second attack would be "ineffective" and do absolutely nothing! The ps1 version of the game let you turn off all these spiffy "fixes" so you could play with the original rules and hardships if you so desired. The PSP version does not offer this option.

If you've played the game before and liked it, you prolly still will. If you've never played Final Fantasy games (let alone any of the Games before #7) it probably will appear pretty simplistic. The story line isn't all that deep. The game isn't hard, but it can appear frustrating when you can't figure out where to go next because the town people you talk to don't give obvious directions. Or if you decide not to talk to everyone in a new place you might miss out on a key item needed to progress further in the game.

20 years after the first time I played it I can sit down with my psp and enjoy this classic for what it is.. a remake of a really old game with brighter color, sharper drawings, and the joy of all those child hood memories playing on my nintendo.Read full review...

FFI

I do wish the pixels were a little more crisp, but I respect what was done at the time with the graphic direction. The game has a lot of lovely additions.

This is the definitive version of Final Fantasy. A must buy for any fan.

Final Fantasy was one of the first games I ever played when I was a kid. After buying a Playstation Portable a few months back for Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection, I started looking at other games. When I found this (at such a reasonable price) I knew this would be nostalgia.

The game's graphics have been updated to HD and they have streamlined the battle system so random encounters don't take as long as they used to on the Nintendo. The item system has also been upgraded, allowing you to carry far more than you used to be able to. They've also added new dungeons, including one exclusively for the PSP (The four other dungeons were present in the Gameboy Advance version). The extra dungeons provide much post-game content and are very enjoyable, since they are filled with bosses from their later games. The PSP dungeon, however, is kind of a bore, since they made it a puzzle dungeon and the boss at the end is ridiculously tough. Regardless, this is the best version you can buy. It has the best graphics, same classic soundtrack you know and love, and best of all, the story only serves to continue the game, not the other way around, like with Final Fantasy XIII. Ugh.

If your a fan of Final Fantasy, get this. If you've never played Final Fantasy before, play this version.Read full review...

A good take on a classic.

A enjoyed the PlayStation version when i was younger and this is a very good reinterpretation of a classic that i will keep playing again and again from start to finish and at lest complete it 100% once.

Final Fantasy Revisited

Far less frustrating than the original (you don't have to buy a potion 99 different times), though now its insanely easy (magic points instead of the old NES version & all kinds of additional healing items). This can be beat without effort for any of those who have played the original. Bonus dungeons rather annoying as you have to exit to return again to fight another "boss" & fight the same stupid weak things over and over and over and over....; not to mention not really worth it. The encounter rate is ridiculously high...let's also add that when you max out your characters everything runs away...now I'm just wasting my time playing to finish the bonus dungeons to get the best gear....meh not worth my time. Expect to beat this game in less than a week or 2. My final thought - if you want a challenge, don't waste the $20 or so buying this game and use it towards purchasing the original NES version or find a ROM.Read full review...

This IS Final Fantasy. Just Smaller.

I have been playing RPG's and in particular the Final Fantasy series since I was just a kid. I remember playing the original version of this game on classic NES, and getting through it in one sitting, playing til the wee hours of the morning, (on a school night nonetheless). I picked this up for PSP the same day that I pre-ordered FFVII Crisis Core. When I came home I immediately immersed myself in the game for the next five hours...playing into the wee hours of the morning like a kid again. It was exciting to relive the original FF experience, although only smaller. This game has been re-released a number of times, but it is still the same FF most of us grew up with and love. Yes, the graphics are different from most PSP games, but to me they remind me of how the original game looked. This is a classic NES game for cryin out loud, I for one am happy that it didn't get butchered by updates and reworks because to me, it would have ruined the game, and the nostalgia.

Gameplay is like any other RPG, battle menus and such. If you are unfamiliar with these types of menus or RPG's in general, this is the game that would be a great starting point for you. Not only does a younger generation get to relive the FF experience on newer, more advanced consoles, but us older people who grew up with Atari and NES get to relive it too, while all the while anticipating the next big FF title to come out. FF is recommended to any age group, the gameplay here is easily picked up and understood, and helps to prepare you for newer, more complex RPG's.
