Fun for all ages

This game is great for learning to play with the " Guitar style controller" It is compatible with the Guitar Hero controllers. so pretty much anyone can play a tune in easy level mode with very little or no practice. Medium level and up incorporate all 4 fingers into the song and are great for improving your eye to hand reaction. I have been a "Real Guitar Player for over 25 years and I notice my finger speed and dextarity have improved as well as my hand strength and stamina. if you have the drum and mic and 2 guitar controllers you and three friends can get a band going that actually ROCKS! Whoo hoo I give it 4 out of 5 because a lot of the songs are pretty abscure to me and I listen to music pretty much when I'm awake so absure to me is saying something however there are a lot of tunes we all know and love as Classics. Super Kool Game get it!Read full review...

Better than Guitar Hero?

Hard to say, Rock Band definitely has a wider selection of songs and a way better Downloadable library, compared to Guitar Hero's laughable selection.
But truth be told, I sort of like the Guitar Hero interface a little better, in terms of actual note playing. It just feels a bit more realistic.
When it comes to customobility (is what a word?) Rock Band hands down, better interface, create a character, its actually exciting when you're playing on stage. Please note: I only have a a guitar, no mic or drums. (I tried using the standard Xbox headset, either it don't work so well or I'm a worse singer than I thought.) So bear that in mind.

Really good game

Just wish you didn't have to play the tour to unlock all the songs...it's very time consuming...but I guess it helps you get a better feel of all the songs the game offers and in the end you end up liking more songs that what you originally likedRead full review...

Great fun to be had by all works well with real instruments in the background

During these hard times when you can't go to the entertainment let the entertainment come to you. If you have all the instruments this game like the entire series is a blast with friends. I view the amount of content a person gets is outstanding for the current price point. Its like interactive karaoke and the later series allows pro instruments. Read full review...

Rock Band Xbox 360

Rock band is an extremely fun game, especially with friends. I first bought Rock band on the Wii back in 2008, then I slowly started to get bored of the other games on the Wii. I bought an Xbox 360 in July of 2010 and started getting in to shooters, but eventally you need to take a brake form those addicting shooters (MW2, Black ops) and play some rock band with friends. You might be thinking why i'm buying the old Rock Band when there is Rock Band 3. Im doing this simply due to money purposes, new games now a days are usually around $50-$60 plus tax, which i would spend on more important things in life. All in all, Rock band is just a nice game to play with friends and have fun. Isn't that what games are all about anyway?Read full review...

2nd is Better...

I only bought this game for one song. Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria.

I had gotten the 2nd game first, and boy is it better than this one. They fixed a lot.

The character customization is pretty average I'd say. Not too many facial choices, but the color selection is cool. I'm not gonna lie, the people's arms creep me out a bit.

I only really have 3 major complaints.
1. You end up playing the same damn songs like a half dozen times to open one new one. It's SO annoying. I got sick of playing it within 20 minutes, no joke, but once someone else played with me it became bearable.

2. A single character you make becomes the "band leader" and ALWAYS has to play regardless. If you're playing in a band with siblings, and everyone has their own character, if the person who's character is the leader isn't there, you still have to play that character. I find that VERY irritating and pointless.

On the plus side,
I kinda know some of the songs, and the amount of Star Power you get is crazy. All in all I don't think this game is very hard, but I'm not done with it yet. :)

Harmonix Has Started a Revolution

When the first Rock Band was released in 2007, music games were at an all-time high. Thanks to the success of the Guitar Hero franchise, Harmonix had come to the forefront of the music game boom. When Harmonix was purchased by EA, it allowed them to start fresh and give players an even more immersive music experience, and Rock Band delivers in every way.

The setlist is stunning, containing many master tracks and its fair share of cover songs. It's a good mix of popular music of today and the top hits of the past, everything from "Here It Goes Again" by OK Go to "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. Mix in the Harmonix bands' songs and a wealth of downloadable music and you have one heck of a selection to choose from.

There is also a great character creator mode in this game. Harmonix has given gamers a wealth of options to completely customize your rocker to your liking. Do you want to be a glam rock diva with blue hair? By all means, go ahead. Do you want to be the most metalist rocker to ever ascend from the depths of Lucifer's dwelling place? Do as you please. Everthing from hair styles to tattoos to a plethora of clothing options lets you make your rocker unique.

The single player campaign is straight out of the music career textbook: play songs, become famous. But the multiplayer is really where the game shines. Rock Band gives players the ability to create a band with three other friends and tour around the world while acquiring things such as vans, tour buses, and managers to help make you a sensation. There are tons of cities to travel to with multiple venues to play at, which keeps you wanting to come back for more just to accrue more fans, monay and fame.

Even if you don't start a band and rock the world, the core quick play in multiplayer is just too much fun to pass up. Playing the songs with friends while probably embarrassing yourself beyond belief (especially while singing, at least in my experience) makes for a great time with friends and even people who don't normally play video games. One of the most rewarding experiences of my life is seeing my uncle attempting to hit the high notes on "Jukebox Hero."

With this new addition into the music genre, Harmonix has started a revolution. Great songs (with even more to come via downloadable content), full band capability and a strong multiplayer component all make Rock Band truly revolutionary. With more installments already available (Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band coming in September) and more likely to come, I have faith that the only way Harmonix will go is up.

Countless hours of Enjoyment

I have to say, at first, I had been swayed by the Guitar Hero series. I prefer to use Guitar Hero instruments over the RB ones. But what really got me sold on Rock Band was the downloadable content. In that arena, RB crushes Guitar Hero.

I purchased this game for a few achievements (Xbox 360), and because you can export all but 3 songs to Rock Band 2 for a nominal fee. Enter Sandman, Run to the Hills, and one other song don't get transferred.

Great for kids, great to play with friends. Definite must have for any game library.

Rock Band is going to be the runaway hit this season!

Pros: Taking the genre to a whole new level
Cons: A bit on the expensive side to truly play this game

Please Note that I was able to play this game before the official release during a demo session.

Graphics - 9/10
For what the game is, you are not buying this game to play for the graphics – though EA and Harmonix was to put a lot stuff onto one screen, and it works well. The words and the activators are clear and bright. Great graphics for what it is (the game).

Sound – 10/10
The track list for this game, along with the original recordings and downloadable content, is a must have. You will get lost in involvement when playing this game. This is one of the best soundtracks in a game to date. The best addition is the sound of the instruments when you mess up – they just cut out.

Gameplay – 9/10
Though taking on new instruments Rock Band has taken this game this game down a new road, going to a new town and just nailed it. The drums, along with the fender are awesome. What is really impressive, but under published is the singing. This is a fun, yet interesting addition, to this platform.

Replay Value - 10/10
When you see the achievement list, it will make you achievement “gatherers” play this game again and again to get the full 1000/1000. Plus with the addition of online multiplayer, content downloads, and competitive play – it will hard not to play this game over and over. This is worth your $169.99 for the bundle this holiday season. Can you deny The Who - Who's Next? album after the first week available for download?

Overall - 10/10
This game is going to change the way developers take the gamer in the future. As an avid gamer, and a twenty-something, this game just pulled me in. The soundtrack, game play, singing, and peripherals all gel perfectly.

The new wired “Fender” guitar is heavier, durable, and a real close replica to an original Fender (3/4ths the size). Playing this, you feel as if you have a real Strat in your hands. Playing guitar for the last seven years, this instrument feels natural, and it is easy to orientate yourself to it. I must say that this is a nice controller, and I did not want to put it down. The buttons take getting used to, but that is because I am used to the buttons on Guitar Hero's peripherals.

The drums are well built, sturdy, and I have to say – just plain fun! The color coded drum heads, and kick pedal, feel good while playing them. Playing cross-handed style naturally, they set up the game to accommodate real drum playing style. This is the closest simulator I have felt. I would agree with the developers in saying that playing the drums on expert level would make you a better “real” drummer on a novice/intermediate level.

Singing – well… That is just plain fun. I must comment that the pitch recognizing, along with the tracks, makes this game the "all in one package".

I highly RECOMMEND that you get the bundle not only to save money, but to experience this game in entirety with your friends.
