A Classic, properly presented.....

Knowing that Watterson will no longer create, the set being complete on Calvin and Hobbes, I felt this was a wonderful time to invest in a quality presentation of this set and have it available for my enjoyment ... whenever!!
It has been my favorite comic strip, having enjoyed it throughout its entire run. So, when I saw that it was bound in art book quality paper, and hard back binding, I made the purchase. I have enjoyed it so far and delighted in the historical notes at the beginning and the sequential presentation of all the strips as they ran in syndicate. The price on ebay made it half the listing price, I see, when this set came out originally. So, it made for some economy in getting me this desired treasure. A must have....

Truly a collectable! A must have for every Calvin fan!

What a great set! This well done 3 volume boxed set includes every strip of Calvin and Hobbes ever created. The strips are listed in date order with Nov. 18, 1985 first. Monday - Saturday strips are printed 3 to a page and Sunday strips are a full color, full page spread. The pages are 12 x 10 1/2 allowing the strips to be larger than originally printed in the comics. The set, though heavy, exudes quality and will be treasured by current and future (one is still a non-reader) Calvin and Hobbes fans in our family. The first volume has become the breakfast reading, sending everyone off to work/school with a chuckle, proving to be a great stress reducer! The art-back paper has a good weight and the book lies open very nicely. The 3 volumes fit perfectly into the box which can make it a little difficult to get a volume out but gravity helps if you tilt the box forward. I originally felt the price was steep but, now that I have seen the quality and priceless joy in my family, it's worth every penny. As for the weight, consider it exercise.Read full review...

Calvin & Hobbes Completed

What can one say about THE GREAT CALVIN & HOBBES by Bill Watterson that no one else hasn't said. Great Great Great. However this was a gift to my husband of 34+ years and this is the first time I've provided 2 full weeks of extreme laughter. Laughter from the gut waking me up as late as 2 & 3 in the morning. Mirth pure mirth and they say laughter is the greatest health tonic ever sold. This has to be the greatest gift ever given then. Anyway I'd given the smaller books published in the 90's to my husband. Starting with a few one Holiday hoping that for a few holidays at least I'd be able to continue giving 1-2 a year....ha ha ha! He went right out and bought every one he could find for himself there after. Like the coffee beans and itty roaster I gave him in 05. He just got on line and ordered his own green beans this year about 20 pounds the day following my order of 25 pounds for his birthday....guess he's not very trusting that I'll come thru next time or is that he's not one to anticipate or wait....maybe. Bill Watterson....you brought joy to millions and laughter's in the billions. Bless you! More mean snow people please...it's winter up north and we need some comic relief........and as for the gift that will keep on giving well I no longer have expectations of keeping track of what books he's already got.....it's complete! And it will be revisited every now and again year after year after year. Expensive you complain...but look at it as 30 dollars for each book and what a deal.

I wanted to add another covet review since having this set for over a year now. Couldn't duplicate the charm and 2 weeks of merry for my husband this year. But making a heavy fabric cover for it so we can keep it more safe when downstairs in living area not in library at the top shelf where I can't reach it without climbing on chairs etc. at my own danger. I did say we were married 36 years next week! And Calvin Fans we still are! The lady who starts the family morning off with a reading from these books...Brilliant. We need more Moms like you!

LOVED the memories this brought back

I have always been a huge fan of "Calvin & Hobbes" since discovering the strip. It was a daily strip that would cause me to laugh aloud and I loved the philosophy of Hobbes and his wisdom and insights. This comic was also a favorite of my late mother and she would often call and ask if I had read "today's tidbit". The fact that the entire collection has been compiled in a beautiful 3 volume set and the quality and sheer physical beauty of the collection is impressive and it something that I look forward to sharing with my nephew and my godson as they become of an age to appreciate the humor and for me to revisit often to also have smiles for my days. If you were even only a casual fan of the strip, these volumes deserve a place of honor on your bookshelves.Read full review...

Wonderful complete treasure of Calvin & Hobbes comics in hardbound!

If you aren't familiar with Calvin and Hobbes' comics, you should be! Bill Watterson captures the experiences and imagination of a boy and his stuffed tiger while throwing in some additional things for the adults. It is one of the few comics that doesn't forget its source. This set includes the series in all its glory (and hardbound!) My sons loved Calvin & Hobbes. (Growing up, some would pull a Calvin face in photos or even try some of his antics - so beware!) I wanted them to have a set they could treasure and share with their kids - even if they also bought softbound ones for the next generation to finger through more often.Read full review...

Nice to finally have Calvin & Hobbes in one place, pity about the binding.

I purchased this set for my husband to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. The case holding the volumes is sleek and attractive. The set is VERY heavy and since the books are so thick with such heavy paper, it did separate from the binding. We're a little disappointed with that. They may have to be rebound. He was floored when he opened it. He sat forever just looking through the volumes and smiling. It has all the strips from the newspapers with the date each one originally ran. The daily strips are in black and white while the strips from the Sunday paper are full color. It's really nice to have them all in one place.

All in all, it's a good product. I would have given 5 stars had the binding been sturdier.

Perfect coffee table book.

It's all there, the entirety of that wonderful fantasy childhood saga. The books are *HUGE* so some planning is going to be needed to accommodate it. The best place is a coffee table if you have one. The hard cover books look very nice and will compliment any classy styled room so you can leave it out so you and visitors to casually browse through. I just love it.Read full review...
