Above average TV/DVD combo for the price

Bought this TV/DVD combo a few weeks ago as a replacement to a 13" tube TV for my kitchen. I don't watch a lot of TV, so just wanted a basic flat screen LCD HDTV for watching news and to listen to some CDs.

TV performs very well overall with both cable and DVD/CD playback. I have not experienced any problems with the device itself. Sound qualify for all features is good.

My complaints are about the manual and the remote control.

The manual is poorly written. Took me a lot of time (about 30 minutes) to figure out how to program the it. Connected it to a coax output from the basic TW Cable connection. Turned it on, nothing happened. The manual as well as the on screen menu were not user friendly. After much struggling and patience, I was finally able to figure things out. Prior to purchasing this Toshiba, I thought the most difficult TV to program was a Sony Wega I purchased a few years ago but I was incorrect. Toshiba takes the cake with regard to difficult programming. I don't consider myself an electronic illiterate so this set up was a challenge.

The remote control isn't bad but is IMHO too big for the size of the TV/DVD device and has a dizzying array of not well marked buttons. For instance there is one called "shuttle" which doesn't do anything obvious and its difficult to know what it means. There is also a button that you would think changes something related to audio but nothing happens when you push it.

One nice feature which is unit has, and which is not on all units, is a VGA connection for pc or computer equipment which is another reason I purchased the unit as I occasionally want to show someone something from my laptop and the 19" screen is bigger and easier to view than my 15.4" laptop screen.

For the money, I feel like I got a bargain.

In summation I'm not disappointed with the product, but there are some elements that could be better.

Good buy.

I like the steady volume control so the commercials don't come on extremly loud. The price was excellent due to the fact it is a flat LCD tv plus dvd. It plays all dvd's even the ones that you record tv onto. The visual quality is r good and excellent in HD. It has a game channel feature so you just press the button and it goes straight to your game equipment(Xbox, Wii, ect.)The only problem that I have is the time of day does not work so I could not use the alarm to turn the tv set on in the morning. I did not feel that was worth returning the item for. Over all I am pleased with the purshase and happy with my new tv.Read full review...

Toshiba 19HLV87 TV/DVD Combo

This is a favorable review. Great product. Picture is incredible next to my older CRT television. I had no idea how many over the air high definition broadcasts there are in my area. Since this Toshiba television also receives the analog transmissions you can compare it to digital broadcasts...wow! Clean lines, it looks good in our bedroom. My two criticisms are that the remote is another array of dual function buttons that I am getting use to and the on screen menu is very small. Toshiba 19HLV87 TV/DVD Combo

I bought this unit for my wife to use in our kitchen.
She really seems to like it and I think the sound seems great when set-up for surround sound.
It couldn't be simpler to set-up and has a handy programming feature that programs all of the cable channels for you.
The DVD player sound a little cluncky at times, but also works flawlessly.
I think the overall quality is great for a lower cost unit!

Great Toshiba 19" TV!

The color is brilliant, the sound is wonderful, the volume has a wide range (good for us older folks :o), and the DVD player is perfect. This tv/dvd is in my office where it's "on" 12-14 hours per day! My previous set in this room was also a Toshiba, which eventually led me to shop for the same brand. AWESOME TV/DVD COMBO

I DID ALOT OF RESEARCH ON A LOT OF TV/DVD COMBO'S. I ALWAYS CAME BACK TO THE TOSHIBA FOR ITS AWESOME PICTURE, GREAT SOUND ABOUT HAVING THE BUILT IN DVD PLAYER WAS A MUST. IT TAKES UP LESS ROOM HAVING IT ALL IN ONE. THE PRICE HAD A LITTLE TO DO WITH GETTING IT TO. BUT ALL N ALL ITS THE BEST TV I HAVE EVER HAD. TV/DVD COMBO

Needed a b-day gift for my 13 yr old daudhter. She had an old tv/vhs in her room, and it was time to upgrade. I found this set on E-bay and for the price, could not pass it up. The color, sound, and overall performance of this unit is superb! worked perfectly right out of the box, and the 19 inch size is perfect for her room. Being a flat panel saves so much space.
