Excellent Vintage Tone That Plays Well In Any Context

Duncan Antiquity I pickups have long been part of my top three most recommended sets for Jazzmaster. They're consistent from set to set and almost tonally identical to my favorite era of pickup for the model (1958-1964). They exhibit the same loud, dark, and full tone I expect from any early Jazzmaster, with a low-mid focus that imparts a different character than most other single coils. If you want a warm, vintage sound, this set is exactly what you need.

The higher output and warmer sound of the Is contrast with the quieter, brighter IIs which are meant to replicate late-1960s pickups. Also good, but not for me. And of course, if you want a more modern sound, there are other units I'd point you toward first including Lollar and Curtis Novak's wonderfully off-beat creations. Still, the Antiquity line seems to handle anything I can throw at it including surf-inspired tremolo picking, textured chords layered in the background of a track, anarchic rock solos, and pitch shifted fuzz explosions. To quote Nels Cline in the recent "Board to Death" video by Earthquaker Devices, "[Seymour Duncan] knows what they're supposed to sound like." Couldn't have said it better myself.

Great sounding Jazzmaster Pickup

This is a serious upgrade for any modern Jazzmaster if you are looking for more traditional vintage JM tones. I’ve owned a few newer JMs, but finally decided to try the famed SD Antiquity ll. It did my MIM Blacktop wonders. I thought it sounded great before, but this pickup is fantastic. Plenty of meat and potatoes with all the chime when you want it. Read full review...

Warmer tone for the Jazzmaster

This pickup has great tone, not quite as bright as the Alnico V models, a little bit "smoother".
