Dream Theater Live at the Budokan

Dream Theater are a progressive rock band with metal sounds. I find it easier to say they are progressive metal and with influences strongly rooted to the neoclassical music world- like Yngwie Malmsteen except these guys actually have talent that goes beyond pointless shredding. Every member of this band is virtuosic at their instrument meaning that they come pretty close (relatively speaking) to being masters of their instruments. Mike Portnoy on Drums, percussion, vocals. James Labrie on Vocals. John Myung on Bass. John Petrucci on Guitar and Jordan Rudess on Keyboard/Synth.

For a Dream Theater fan- shame on you for not owning this already. But it is a good thing your about to get it. For non DT fans this is about as good an intro into the progressive metal world as you can hope for. The line up is intense with the band playing 5 of 7 songs from Train of Though some great tracks from Metropolis: Scenes from a memory, including 'Beyond this Life' and 'Solitary Shell'. Some highlights are Stream of Consciousness from Train of Thought and Jordan Rudess's Keyboard Solo (the keyboardist). Also the drummer and keyboardist go head to head in an improvised dual/duet mid song which is something everyone should see at some point. 'The test that stumped them all' from Six degrees of Inner turbulance and 'Pull me under' from Images and Words left me bitterly disapointed that i was not at that concert and wanting more Dream Theater than i could get my hands on. The Audio and Video are totally professional. I have seen this DVD at least 30 times and i still love it. If you like mainstream music and detest solos and people who can actually play their instruments this DVD is not for you. These guys are insane - technically, musically, headbangingly (if thats a word) creatively and they just Rock!!! The concert goes for about 3 hours and is as instense all the way through as at the beginning.

Definetely a worthy purchase to say the least.

DT Rocks!

A must-have for the true DT fan! This DVD set shows "the Theater" in clear viewing and crisp audio production. Overall, the best quality DVD I own of any concert (and I have several from many different artists). These guys are the best out there now in prog. rock. It made me appreciate their collective talents even more than just listening to them on thier CDs. You gotta get this DVD set if you are an admirer of real rock or a Dream Theater fan.Read full review...

Love this DVD.

I actually enjoy this DVD more than Score. Although the music is polished and well executed in Score, the Music in the Budokan DVD is more alive, vibrant, and executed just as well.
