Shimano BR-R517 mechanical disc brake calipers

These are great disc calipers, especially if your bike has fenders. The Shimano pads are wide, and don't rattle or squeal, like smaller round pads can. The braking power is very good. Really, no complaints about the performance of these calipers.

The calipers don't stick out too far to interfere with fenders. You'll still need spacers for the fenders, but not a lot.

Another thing to note is there are no adjusters for cable length, like you find on other disc brake calipers. The gotcha is the rotating part will bottom out. That's why there's a pad adjusting screw on the rotating side and a large adjusting screw on the stationary side. The adjustments must be made with these two screws, and not the brake cable. Once the cable length is dialed in, only those two screws will be used from that point. No issues with this implementation. It works very well.Read full review
