Didn't work perfectly with US ARMY move controller

Game may actually be better than I reviewed, it is worth trying...I was unhappy simply because it was NOT compatible with the playstation move gun I purchased. Besides that. Seems like it could be a good gameRead full review...

will you take the tour of duty

Though it has a long history of bringing tactical third-person shooter action to Sony systems, the SOCOM series' debut on the PlayStation 3 failed to fully capture the excitement of its predecessors. Yet while SOCOM: Confrontation disappointed, SOCOM 4 delivers. The substantial campaign makes good use of setting and characters to create an engaging tour of duty in which squad tactics play a nicely balanced role. The online cooperative mode lets up to five players band together for stand-alone missions that can offer a serious challenge and engender a good sense of camaraderie. Those looking for competition will find plenty to like in the online multiplayer, where up to 32 players compete on large, well-designed maps in a variety of game types, including tense variants with the classic SOCOM rules that disallow respawning in the middle of a match. Both single- and multiplayer do have some issues, including imperfect stealth action, visual oddities, and intermittent network problems. Fortunately, these limitations don't spoil the fun, and SOCOM 4 makes it exciting to experience what each mode has to offer.Read full review...

Game is great, move control sucks, better price on Amazon in most cases.

Ive only been playing for about an hour and I must say this is another great installment. The return of the single player campaign was quite a stroke of genius considering the epic FAIL of the PSN network for a month. The sharpshooter attachment and move compatiblity is lame though. It doesnt work like a point and shoot that you would have expected, like say time crisis. All it does is make you move the gun in a direction and then the cursor will move in that direction. Speed of cursor movement dependent on how fast or how slow you move your gun. Lame in my opinion, makes you a sitting duck in online play. But if you are dead set on getting the move controllers at a very good price the Full Deployment pack is a good deal. And as of 5/16 if you are paying more than $142.99 after shipping you are being ripped off. Check Amazon if you cant get it for better than that price on Ebay.Read full review...

Great action game, not better than socom 3 but still fun to play.

First off, this is nothing like the other Socom games made by zipper. The feeling is not an improvement. With that said, for a third person shooter it is very fun and addicting to play. the graphics are outstanding with the sounds and weapons from the original socom. There are no handguns tho which to me is a flaw. You can equip your person with two primary weapons and some other small tactical equipment like frags or mines. However, the gun upgrades work by a different system than usual. In order to upgrade the weapons like sights and grips exct you must use that weapon for so many points before you can add attatchments. It makes it a little harder to get a comfortable setup at first but does help you learn the weapons and how they shoot differently. This is a good game, its not amazingly great but it is fun to play. If you are a fan of the previous Socom's made by zipper this is not like them and not for the better.Read full review...

excelent

et me start out by saying that I'm almost exclusively a First Person Shooter player and almost always on an Xbox. I've logged time on (and have beaten as well) BFBC2, CoD Black Ops, and Crysis 2; I also own and have beaten CoD Modern Warfare, MW2, Red Dead Redemption, etc...

I've just gotten into the PS3 scene to get the killer Blu-Ray player and try some of the exclusive titles on it. The SOCOM series is a PS exclusive. SOCOM4 is my first taste of a shooter on the PS3 and sadly, this game doesn't measure up, and that's too bad. Granted, it's a Third Person Shooter game on the PS3, but more than close enough to compare. Gears of War and RDR are both TPS and awesome.

Having carried a real gun for the 32 years of my entire adult life from 17 to 49 in the military and law enforcement, I wanted to experience something close to actually pointing a weapon in a video game and was excited to try the PS SharpShooter system based on its reviews. I found after pricing the components locally, the SOCOM4 'Full Deployment Edition' with the SharpShooter and all the other PS Move gear actually cost less than just the hardware. Ergo, the game was free - to me. So, if you got the game with the package it is an awesome deal as it's an 'OK' game. I'll review the SharpShooter in its place...although I will say it gets high marks.

THIS GAME IS AMAZING

The tactical shooting game franchise continues with SOCOM 4, created by the original design team at Zipper Interactive. A totally amazing single-player mission structure will put players on the battlefield with more control than ever before, while the 32-player online combat scenarios will make every gamer fall in love. The game also allows the use of the PlayStation Arc for precise aiming via the motion controller accessory. I have to say that ever since i got the motion controller for this game and killzone 3 i haven't put it down!Read full review...

There are Navy SEALs in this game? Oh wait, no.

SOCOM has always been one of the more polarizing franchises. Some people just can’t get into it, and that's fine. The multiplayer for SOCOM 4 is solid, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I wish there were more game modes and maps to make my purchase feel worthwhile. The story mode has interesting squad command gameplay, though I found myself enjoying the co-op missions more because I could actually yell at my sniper to kill the dude with a rocket launcher. If the single player were longer, and the story was worth following there'd be a great game here, instead of just the good one that might get ignored.Read full review...

Try a different SOCOM, this one is short and lame

I've played every SOCOM game version on every platform there is out there and I have to say unlike any of the others I was impressed with the graphics, too bad it ended there. I was very let down with this one, I don't know what other reviewers were thinking when they over-rated this one(I see an awful lot of 4 & 5 star reviews), but I wasn't thrilled at all. First off there are only 14 very short missions and some seem to be exactly or very close to the same as the last mission unlike most of the older SOCOM's that gave more, longer mission which were all very different from one to the next. Some of the other SOCOM's gave as many as 20-22 missions, with only 14 on this one and some pretty much the same I was bored! I beat this game in just under 8 hours, it would have been even shorter had I skipped the cut scenes. Also, there we're too many lame missions where you just crawl around and recon enemy camps and or bases without shooting/killing anything, which I found quite boring for a shooter/war game! It's also a pain unlocking most or all of the weapons, and you start off with weak junk! Too many long, drawn out cut scenes. For the price of the game (new) you get very little bang for your buck. I wouldn't recommend this SOCOM since I found it boring, short and lame.Read full review...

First Official SOCOM 4 REVIEW..AVERAGE! NEEDS MAP MAKER

As like ALL SOCOMs it takes time to warm up to the game.
The online play is AVERAGE.
The Single player campaign is deep, co-op, and AVERAGE
The graphics are on PAR with MAG...
Some call it "MAG DUTY" or "3rd person MAG"
I think this game is more on the AVERAGE that all game companies are produceing.
Forgetting to listen to their customers..
I know SONY wants to push their WII rip off material...but
we the customers BUY the games...YOU DON'T!
IF YOU WANT BETTER GAMES..TELL SONY YOU WANT MAP MAKERS!
MOST GAMES HAVE 1 MAP MAKER MAKE FEW LAME MAPS THAT KILL REPLAY VALUE!
IF YOU WANT TO SAVE GAMES FROM BAD GAME DESIGNERS AND SELFISH BUSINESSES..
WRITE THEM!!
DON'T STOP!
DEMAND BETTER GAMES THE WAY WE WANT TO PLAY!
TELL THEM PC HAS MAP MAKERS!!!
HOW COME PS3 DOESN'T?!?!?!
W R I T E T H E M!!

Disc scratched... gameplay experience was terrible.

Not at all what I expected. The disk was circular motion scratched, the game audio crashes and the cinematics skip. I’m a big fan of Socom games and I can’t play this one like that...
