Good off camera flash

Pros: Small, in-expensive, good performance, easily fits in pocket, practice will make it an easy tool to use. Easily fits in pocket and can be used with multiple strobes of same kind to obtain very good low light or flash assisted lighting where most on camera built-in strobes would definitely not perform.
Cons: Optical link so you have to pay attention to the positioning of the strobe to make sure it picks up your flash signal to fire, therefore it requires modification to the flash on camera so as to avoid on camera flash problems. Uses non-rechargeable batteries.
Other: I haven't tried the included bracket, but I can't imagine it would help the over all goal to use an off camera flash and lessen the harshness of the on camera flash.Read full review...

Canon Slave Flash

This is a great, small, light weight flash that fires itself when it senses another flash in the room. Don't be misled into thinking there is some sort of electronic connection between this flash unit and the camera. It has no bluetooth or radio signal or wire connection. It optically senses another flash and it then flashes simultaneously. It works very well and recharges in a few seconds with a fresh battery. The only confusion is in the setting for the flash intensity. A few trial shots will end the guessing game and there are three different levels of flash intensity to choose from. This flash unit can also be placed elsewhere in a room as a back lighting or long distance lighting as long as it "sees" the camera flash. If you are aware of subtle differences in the lighting of your photographs, you will appreciate the usefulness of this unit and be able to take advantage of what it is capable of. Remember, it is another piece of equipment to have with you so it requires some effort to use in that respect. I used it to take photos of the auditorium stage from the 17th row back and the small on-camera flash hardly lit past 10 feet.
