Too sing songish with original. Quite a bit more interesting with Depp's version. All good for families in general.
Both movies I bought the pair set because I wanted to see the newest release this 2024 version and have the earlier ones to compare. I found the original a bit sticky and the second as much as I love Depp as only Depp can be at least they didn't break into song and dance all the time which for me was a turn off for movie One. I'm hoping the third out when it comes out on DVD will be without song and dance from the actors and cast. Maybe some back ground tunes here and there but lets not break out singing please. I can wish and hope. Hope is above all what we must cling too. Overall the first movie is fine for kids but it's very dated these days. The second is maybe a tad scary for young kids if they are tender but some kids would eat it up and enjoy the Depp character. It's not as dated feeling but probably due to the lack of sing song used to carry it on. If I were to buy just one it would be Depp's version of Charlie. A lot more suspense and 8-9 year olds should enjoy if again they aren't overly sensitive spirits. OK for family movies and I can see like myself as an adult the original not so great but the second quite a bit better to sit through with your kids. My money's on the third one I haven't seen yet. Living in a very rural area and without buy TV anything via streaming set ups I'm waiting for the releases of the DVD. Read full review...
