A magnificent movie that's appropriate for viewing anytime of the year
The quality of this reproduction is excellent. The movie itself is superb, of course, and the black and white nature of the video produces an authenticity that helps bring the settings back to the 1840's when Dickens first published his masterpiece. As for the bad aspects of the movie, give me a few decades and maybe I'll come up with something.Read full review

A Christmas classic.
Enjoyed watching background commentaries. They provided some interesting information about this old film. In my opinion this is a time honored Christmas classic. The last thing we do before going to bed on Christmas eve is sit down and watch this movie. Watching the transition that Ebeneezer Scrooge goes through warms your heart, and his new felt enthusiasm for Christmas is contagious.
They've done a great job of updating video. They greatly smoothed out both the audio and video. It is easy to watch and you no longer have to adjust the volume and down during the show as you have to do with older versions. The only down side is it is black and white only... I realize to get to true visual quality the original work was black and white, however I did like the visuals of the "colorized" version provided.Read full review

Alastair Sim is THE Ebenezer Scrooge for all time!
Charles Dickens somehow had a time machine when he wrote “A Christmas Carol” and saw that Alastair Sim was the personification of old Ebenezer. Don’t ever watch anyone else playing Scrooge,

Childhood Memories
This is the 1950s black-and-white version and is exactly what I wanted. It was my favorite holiday movie as a kid growing up at that time. It is everything I expected, The quality is great and shipped quickly as well. Five stars.Read full review

BEST of all the many versions, but...
Look at the cover. Do you think they remastered it in color? NO , its black and white. I paid a lot of money for this 1951 version. My top 10 movies of all time and the black and white does make it seem more spooky, it is very clear! I just felt tricked that it was a nice color. It does have a lot of added background tidbits also but I found it very boring. Enjoy. Read full review

For the ages...
Alistair Sim must be acknowledged as having given the greatest portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge. In my mind there is no doubt about this.

Best Ever "A Christmas Carol."
IMHO this is the best version of this classic Charles Dickens story. Yes, it's dated, the sound has flaws, the visual effects are not cutting edge, blah blah blah. However, the story is heartwarming, the direction is spot on, the acting is superb, and the dialogue is true to the author's intention. Truly, this version of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" is sincere, tender, and convincing.Read full review
