SHOCK WAVE: Another Explosive Whodunit by America's Grandmaster of Mystery
What's not to love about a John Sandford bestseller in which both the hero and one of the key secondary characters shop on eBay, -- or as the hero calls it, "America's Fence" -- for cool T-shirts featuring an eclectic assortment of obscure or old school bands?
Virgil Flowers started out as a spin-off character from Sandford's award-winning "Prey" series, starring Lucas Davenport (who appears in "Shock Wave", too). But "that f-wording Flowers", as his colleagues invariably refer to him, quickly proved his mettle as a series star in his own right.
"Shock Wave" is the fifth Virgil Flowers novel. This time around, he's up against a mad bomber who seems determined to stop big-box store PyeMart from building their newest retail behemoth in the small riverside town of Butternut Falls, MN, where it would wreak havoc on local businesses and despoil the pristine local ecosystem.
Fishing boat in tow (just in case he gets to spend a little time on the river while he's there), Virgil tackles this literally explosive case with his inimitable combination of laid-back charm, surfer-boy sex appeal, and keenly honed detecting smarts.
As Sandford's fans have come to expect, "Shock Wave"'s plotting is brilliant, the action gripping, and the prose compulsively readable right from the very first page. If you're looking for a masterfully written, intelligent whodunit, "Shock Wave" is an exciting introduction to Sanford. Best of all, if you like it, you've got plenty more treats in store: Sandford writes three series altogether, with complex and believable characters who overlap from one to the next, and each provides a consistently enjoyable read.

Holds one's interest -
Sanford is one of my favorite authors and I've read just about everything he's written. This book, in my opinion, is one of his best. It was hard to not just keep reading til it was finished.
