Melafix as treatment
I have used it as prevention, I have used it as I see first breakouts, I use it when adding new fish, I use it on every water change and its been a good, dependable source to keep fish healthy.
When fish are heavily infected with the disease this has not worked out for me, I only used as a preventative measure. If 7 days did not solve the issue take other recommended measures. Overdosing can stress the fish, use proper recommended dosage, if uncertain stick to a low dosage. Always read instructions properly Melafix and Pimafix have different dosage requirements.
Its been faithful to me I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone if dosage is properly conducted.Read full review...

Great stuff for skin infections.
I first used this on a friends Koi that got sucked into his skimmer when the skimmer screen got dislodged. The fish had been rubbed against the coarse fiberglass mat in the skimmer which had basically torn off most of its skin. The fish was swimming frantically, spinning and dragging most of its body skin behind it. The skin was handing on by the tail. We netted the fish, looked at it and thought the fish would die for certain. We wanted to try something to help it so I cut off the dead skin and put the koi it into my 150 gallon quarantine tank. I treated the fish with melafix and within minutes of putting it into the water, the fish calmed down. I assume the melafix soothed the exposed raw flesh. After 3 weeks of daily treatments the koi had regrown its skin and was back to normal. I returned it to my friends pond. He and I were amazed that it had lived. The soothing action and antibacterial properties of Melafix were amazing. Since that time about 4 years ago, I always have some on hand to treat my quarantine tank when treating a fish with a any type of skin lesion. Its a good product to have on hand.Read full review...
