awesome tablet with great price

I did a ton of research on this tablet and still had many pleasant surprises when it arrived. Its a solid computer that's not that much heavier than the others (no matter what others say). It was less than half the cost of the I pad 2 and besides the fact I pad has more apps, this thing can do everything it can. The front camera is 5 megabits and takes surprisingly good pictures. Video isn't HD but still darn good. Speakers are good enough to listen to music, it has voice activation for websites and searches, and the screen is very quick to the touch. In fact, I am writing this review on it now.
GPS was a little slow to start but as others said use the first time outside, and then its very qui/k to fix after that. I spent ten bucks on maps and took it on a 300 mile trip. It was spot on for every mile.
The only things I don't like is that the micro SD card reader slot is hard to use, but if you are going to just use it for extra hard drive space, its great because everything plays flawlessly from the card.
The other thing is that it doesn't recognize my Sony HD files from the handycam.
But all and all this is z great tablet. Its battery life is about eight hours with multiple programs running! I think I read somewhere that it has two batteries.
Would recommend highly!

Great Honeycomb Tablet with nice build quality for a Great price.

I got this shortly after Thanksgiving because it was an amazing deal.

The more i play with it and use it the more of an amazing deal it is. This can do everything an Ipad can do and so much more...

Can you expand the storage capacity via SD card on an Ipad nope, well you can with this Tablet.

Does the Ipad have a FULL USB port, nope, well this tablet does.

I love the build quality on this tablet and especially the Brushed Aluminum back.

In my opinion the only downside to this tablet is the weight, its not a deal breaker by any means but if it were just a bit lighter it would easily be a home run of a device.

if you are looking for a great Honeycomb Tablet with good software at an affordable price this is the one for you.

Positively Iconia

I decided that I really was not using my laptop for more than surfing and e-mail. So I sold my laptop and decided to buy a tablet. While I like the IPad, it is relatively expensive. I found a good deal on a refurbished tablet through EBay and am happy with my purchase.

As a long time (before Windows) user of the Microsoft operating systems, it took a bit of learning to figure out what Android was doing. I'm still learning. In the meantime, I have downloaded a lot of apps and can use the tablet for everything from word processing to surfing.

I've used voice recognition and it works well as long as you do not talk too fast. I've taken pictures which were quite good although I am not abandoning my digital camera.

I've added a 32Gb SD card and have loaded material through USB. I am very pleased to have a full size USB connector which seems to work flawlessly. Battery life is about 8 hours of continuous use although I really have not taken the time to explore the life with and without WiFi. I do wish the battery was user replaceable but not too many tablets batteries are.

We have a wireless network in our house and the tablet sometimes disconnects from it. I am still not sure if it is the tablet or my router. I suspect the tablet since my son and family have no trouble using the wireless network when they visit. This is a minor irritant but one which can be easily corrected by disconnecting the tablet from the WiFi network and then reconnecting it.

The tablet is fast which is probably true for most of the tablets using this dual core processor. The screen is crisp and is responsive to touch using my finger or a stylus. I recommend using a stylus which diminishes fingermarks considerably.

I bought a case made for the Iconia and it works well. In fact, most everything works as it is supposed to. Whether buying a refurbished item was the right thing to do, I don't know. I do know it saved a lot of money and the item I received can not be distinguished from new. All the original software was on the tablet and upgrades have come through quite well. The operating system and other upgrades have come through with little trouble.

I like the Iconia and the only problems I have found so far have been minor.

Good tablet

This model is what I would call a good tablet, but not great. Older 1 GHz processor, 1200x800 screen, dual cameras including a 5 mp rear camera.
Pros: solid build, takes good photos and has flash assist, connects to wifi well. Good for most basic tablet functions.
Cons: outdated Android operating system & no current updates, thick heavy tablet, battery life good but not great, processor speed slow by today's standards.
If you can buy a good used one for under $90, recommend buy it.

Acer Iconia A500

The Iconia A500 gives the most bang for the buck of any tablet. Since it is not supported with endless updates by Acer, its price is most affordable. There is, however, a great deal of support through the network of users and developers found through the most basic search.

With USB, MicroUSB, HDMI and docking ports, there is sufficient connectivity to serve a multitude of roles. The Micro SD card allows the tablet to be reconfigured at a moment's notice as a navigation platform, video system, gaming system or for other duty.

Available Android software is extensive, and useful.

You can spend a lot more and get a lot less.

Acer Iconia A500

Here are the pros and cons of the Acer A500.

Cons: Very heavy unit, weighs around 5 lbs. Not the type of Tablet you lay around the couch and use. Thickness of the unit makes it hard to find a aftermarket cover/case. Ended up buying a Acer OEM fit case, the one I wanted did not fit. Screen pixel ratios is not very good, screen is not crisp or sharp. The picture quality is very foggy when you use camera. 5MP camera is very disappointing, took a couple of pictures for fun just to see and it was not worth using anymore.
The operating system is outdated on it as well (Honeycomb). There is a 'Acer Enhancement App" on in Play Store but it does not pertain to the Operating system on the A500 series. Also I tried more than several attempts to Upgrade the operating system with a new one. Still did not take, kept telling me Android errors and such. If you have money you could probably send it to someone tech savvy to upgrade.
A lot of apps at the play store will not load on it as well saying, 'Operating system does not support new version". Most likely most of the Apps you use wont function on this unit. Would suggest getting it if you plan to have the system upgraded by a professional.

Pros: Nice large screen to view movies. The slots on the side are useful as well. You can plug in a full size Thumb drive for adding things to your tablet. There is Micro HDMI port to plug in to your TV or Computer screen to watch movies( cord sold separately). The price for it is reasonable for a older unit with a outdated operating system.
Moral to my review would be unless you are very Android Tech savvy or you want to buy this for a child as cheap entertainment. Look for a Acer tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich operating system or higher. It will cost more for it but you will be happier.

Two thumbs up!

The tablet by itself does everything you can expect for a tablet. My congrats to Acer. To top it, it has the latest Android OS version.
The screen size and resolution, the memory capacity and operating system makes this a cost effective purchase for a user my type. Not planning on taking it everywhere I go or use it more than one hour a day.
The only downside is the cradle for this tablet. The version with the HDMI connector is not really that easily available. Purchased two of them and both didn't have it. Don't know if this product was availble or discontinue(?). The Acer website was not really clear.

My first tablet I've ever had, I build my own PC's. But I use this more.

I love this tablet, got it for my 14th birthday this year, I bought a case for it, the battery life lasts all day, I really like Honeycomb 3.2 as well. Sometimes the Android Market hangs, but that's just a bug in the Honeycomb 3.2 OS. People have said to go with the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer, um, no. It has a plastic back that feels really cheap, this tablet has a aluminium back, which is a sleek design. I like that it has a USB port on it too. I don't like tablets that are light, and really thin, because it just makes them feel cheap, Chinese Android tablets that are really cheaply made have a plastic back, a cheap back, and they're really thin. This tablet is as thin as they all should be, and everyone should stop complaining about how much something weighs, like you can't carry an extra 0.5 pounds. LOL.Read full review...

Excellent product. Wifi usage. Easy to carry than a laptop. Buy one!!!

Excellent product. Not what I expected, but it turned out more. Nice size, it runs on WiFi and you can get a AC or Mobil cords for it. I still have to finish updating it as I don't have WiFi, but all I need to do is go to a public place that has WiFi. It has Android Operating System and works beautifully. You can do regular web searching, can use it like a reader or a picture portfolio. This the first IPad I have seen, let alone owned or used. I am impressed with it and I got a super deal with it.Read full review...

Great for WI-FI internet connection and for downloading Android apps.

I bought this Acer for the wife so she could use to watch her Thai soups via Wi-Fi or per me downloading them off of YouTube. It's the perfect size computer for the purpose I bought it for.

Personally I'd rather use a laptop computer, but if someone is looking for a smart device the Acer A500 isn't bad. Especially, if you’re going to use it for just apps and a WI-FI internet connection. It's like having a giant smart phone at the right price.

The wife is happy, so I have to give the Acer kudos for being a great internet device and easy to use.
