a serious book of agave research

This book is for agave nerds in search of deeper data on the succulent. It is of strict botanical content. I bought it for assistance in identification and details regarding specific agaves (in Mexico) used in mezcal production. However, the scant and somewhat derogatory offhanded comments about mezcal are dated and ill informed and the book would benefit by a revised section, even if contributed by an outside expert on the subject. There could, also, be updates needed on new findings resulting from DNA testing, shedding light on misidentified species in Mexico. All the same, the book measured up to expectations for my needs. At a time when mezcal continues to gain popularity (and actual scholarly books of quality short in supply), that small revision could truly bring this important book into the 21st century.Read full review...
