Great fun!

The first thing to know about this product is that it is a kit that requires a good deal of attention to assemble. When I assembled mine it took me about 45 minutes. On top of that I was so excited to get this kit together I immediately started inflating the shark balloon as soon as I brought it in from the mailbox outside. The problem was that it was a very cold day when the kit was delivered and the balloon itself was so cold that it was not as elastic as usual so I accidentally caused a rip in the mylar around where the helium tank inflates it. This caused a permanent leak, so I eventually had to order a replacement balloon. This was my fault, not a flaw in the manufacturing. Just make sure your balloon is room temperature before inflating. Also keep in mind that you need to invest in helium as well as batteries.
That being said once the shark was up and going it was a blast! I have spent hours swimming it through our living room and hallways! If you don't mind a challenge and some extra investment then this kit is worth it!

Two stars only because it could be interesting if it worked

This is a flimsy toy confusing to assemble. First of all you have to inflate it first. That means either bringing it to a party store first (it will be big and awkward to bring home) or buying a tank of helium (which must be pure- try and find it). The directions are poorly written, it's easy to make a mistake. You are given adhesive pads which are not labeled but must be used in specific locations. You are trying to apply these pads to a huge balloon which is filled with helium and trying it's best to get away from you at every turn. It's best to have an assistant to help you and tie a LONG ribbon or string on it before you inflate it in case it gets away from you. Then you mount fins which are flimsy and easily broken while you struggle to finish assembling it. I recommend adding the fins last. The mechanical parts, the basic motor and tail fin mount with the same low tack adhesive pads which are subject to peeling off. I guess the adhesive is low tack in case you make a mistake. You may also have to pair the remote control to the motor which is not a big deal. Then you have to balance the unit with some putty "weights." After all that the tail fin on my unit did not work. Tried to contact the manufacturer for assistance but got no response. Even if it worked I doubt it would last more that one play session. It would not be easy to store and will need periodic helium fillups. If it worked I'm sure it could be fun initially but you have to determine if it is worth the effort and price.Read full review...

Cool idea. Needs more work..

After buying the shark and unboxing, the instructions were out of date. Apparently the shark had went through a model change. There was a youtube video showing how to assemble wich was easier. The adhesive hooks and tape do not hold. The remote that controlls the shark while flying is very intermittent. The motor that makes the shark incline and decline is weak.

Love the idea of this but just needs a little more design work and better quality parts.

Junk durability. Awesome toy otherwise.

Solution to durability problem:

1. After the balloon has been inflated, carefully put strips of a lightweight tape on the areas that might touch things during flight i.e. the top, the nose of the shark, anywhere you think it might touch.

That's it! Make sure you do this carefully so you don't mangle up the balloon. Even the lightest-duty packing tape will add a huge amount of protection without adding so much weight that the balloon won't want to fly.

Cool cool idea. Maybe threse folks should take a look at the construction and add a light vinyl to the areas that could cause the balloon to pop.

Waste of Money

Difficult to assemble. The shark is so flimsy, it wouldn't stay afloat or go in the direction we tried to steer it in. The adhesive patches (to attach the tail and fins) fell off almost immediately. It entertained the kids for maybe 15 minutes, tops. A total waste of time and money!Read full review...

Shark attack!

I was a little surprised how small and light the box was when it arrived. But I realized it is a Mylar balloon just like the ones you buy for Happy Birthday at the flower shop or grocery store. One it was filled it performed as advertised. A great novelty and play toy everyone loves and wants to operate. Best of all, it doesn't break anything when it bounces off lamps, the TV, etc. It was a bit spendy, however, after purchasing the helium bottle to go with it. Hopefully we get lots and lots of hours of joy! BDRead full review...

Great toy if you have the space!

I bought 2 of these for my nieces. My brother-in-law and I assembled them in about 20 minutes. They are 5 feet long and about a foot and a half wide when assembled and inflated. The helium tank was not included but I knew that I wasn't. They have stayed inflated and working for 2 weeks now. Although I have had to reattach the fins a few times it hasn't been a hassle. My 8 & 9 year old nieces think they are one of the coolest toys they own and I have to agree. I just wish we had toys like this when I was that age!Read full review...

Doesn't stay inflated as advertised

This gift was the hit of Christmas morning. It's really fun and everyone wanted to have a try at flying it. My only complaint is that it must have a leak as it was out of helium in about four days. The florist at our local supermarket charges $10 for a refill so I'm not certain how often my son will get it recharged for his son.
If yours doesn't leak you'll have a blast with it.

Fun, but short lasting

It takes a while to assemble and doesn't stay assembled long you're constantly retaping it. But, once its up and running it is fun while it lasts. Also, to have it blown up at your local florist or foodstore it cost me an additional $10.00.Read full review...
