ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE

What a great movie. This film was the basis for the sitcom ALICE that starred Linda Lavin in the title role. We actually see Alice's husband Don in this film before his truck accident, scenes later. Also, as shown in the 4th or 5th season of ALICE, we see the station wagon driving down the road in Arizona, that scene that is shown in almost every season opening episode, is taken from this film, there's the scene when the original Tommy (Alice's son, played by Alfred Lutter) thinks he's gonna be sick, so Alice goes to pull to the side of the road, that's the shot we see in the opening title sequence in ALICE the tv series. I recommend you get ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE if you wanna see the film that was the basis the 1976-1985 sitcom ALICE and also if you're an Ellen Burstyn fan like meRead full review...

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

One of Martin Scorsese's more obscure and early films, "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" is an amazing blend of cinematic craftsmanship and storytelling. Ellen Burstyn is superb in her Academy Award winning role as Alice, an aspiring singer who travels alongside her son to Monterrey in order to find a suitable job and decent life for her and her family. On the way she discovers more about herself, gaining the confidence and independence she always needed. A superb classic. Highly recommend!!!Read full review...

Alice takes the job as a waitress at Mel and Ruby's Diner, and Mel( Vic Tayback) is a widower with a crew with distinctive personalities. Alice meets a customer( Kris Kristofferson) and things are not going to be the same ever again. Or can they be?

This film morphed the popular comedy sitcom "Alice".

Sweet, funny - captures the '70s mood!

Felt like a flash back to the 70's when this movie was filmed! I don't think they were consciously putting the symbols of the era when they were making the movie but they did it! The hair-dos, the furniture, even how women made their own dresses and visited each other. It's all a by-gone age now as we all sit in our own homes and live in our computers instead of participating in each other's lives. Alice gets through the death of her husband by moving away from the town she hates. She finds new friends in another town, some good friends, some dangerous people and she learns some hard lessons. I had seen this movie back in the day and loved it so I had to buy it to see it over. And I love it more in the look back in a journey to the past. I recommend the movie to anyone who wants a good love story ... also to today's young women so you can see what it was like only 40 years ago for women!Read full review...

Only problem was the sound but it took everything away from the movie

The movie was one of my favorites, but this dvd's sound was horrible. It was VERY hard to hear what they were saying.
