American Girl movies

I purchased this DVD set for my daughters, who are new American Girl doll owners. They are reading the book series rather quickly, so I thought this would be a nice surprise for them. What a great decision!

All three movies are excellent, wholesome family movies. They are scripted well in that the movies tell a great story without resorting to the same sappy drama of so many "family" movies. Additionally, all three movies were cast extremely well. The appearances of well-known individuals such as Mia Farrow, John Schneider and even Molly Ringwald (in one of her finest roles, as Molly's mother) were a welcome surprise, and only added to the movies' quality. The characters are quite believable, and the portrayal of various time periods are accurate. It was very interesting for my girls to see not only how families of each time period lived and what type of clothing they wore, but also how the different characters conducted themselves in various situations, such as when dealing with parents, adult community members, peers, etc. The difference in the behavior of the three "mother figures" (Felicity's mother, Samantha's aunt, and Molly's mother) was especially interesting in that each one displayed the socially acceptable behavior appropriate for women of the time. My girls and I have had several discussions on what it meant to be "proper" during each time period, and I feel that they have benefitted educationally from these observations.

Our whole family, including several generations, has enjoyed these movies repeatedly in the weeks that we've had them. My girls have enjoyed re-reading the books that the movies are based on, and are driven to read more and learn more about these generations. The movies have encouraged them to learn more about these periods of time much better than paragraphs in a textbook ever could! I highly recommend them!Read full review...

American Girl 3-DVD Set

These are exceptional movies - whether you or your child is "into" American Girl dolls or not! In an age of pop stars, fast video games, and highly interactive Wii games, my 11 year old daughter has been mezmorized by these films. Not only are the story lines well written, the history of each time period is portrayed beautifully. The fact that the movies are about children, from a child's point of view, really captures kids' attention. They are movies for the whole family to enjoy (even my 75 year old mom loves 'em!) I'd highly recommend making up a big bowl of popcorn, grab your favorite spot in front of the TV and pop in one (or all three) of these DVDs!!

GREAT FAMILY MOVIES!!!

My girls LOVE the american girls and my mom bought them this dvd box set, and they love them!!! They watch at least one a day, with Molly and Samantha's movies being their favorite ones. Felicity's movie is good to, just not as good as the other two. Now they can't wait for Kit's movie to come out in July. Sad thing is I now have the 3 movie box set..and Kit's movie won't be in that same display box and will have to sit out alone. Reguardless they really showed my girls a different era and way of life.Read full review...

American Girl (2006, DVD) box set

What I love about the American Girl Series is that each story has a entertaining, but serious story from the past. It is morally correct and emotionally engaging. It teaches my two daughters the real struggles of the past. It shows how people who worked hard still had a very difficult time during the Depression, World War and others. It gives a sense of how much we have at this time and how it could all change quickly. A must have for anyone who has daughters. My son enjoys the movies as well.Read full review...

Great Flicks for Growing Girl

Samantha is well acted and a must see for all girls of all ages. My girl loved it!!!

Felicity is another well acted movie and to think that the actress, Shailene Woodley, now plays on the secret life of an American Teenager.
Watching Felicity and her girlfriend Elizabeth do the "potty squat" dance (When you see it you will understand) is a riot

Molly is a great film that is rarely shown on TV. It is a bit more gritty and real than the other two but still deals with some historical reality in a way girls will comprehend.Read full review...

American Girl DVD Gift set of 3 Movies

The best thing about these movies is that each one has a lesson learned for young girls. These American Girl Dolls come to life in these movies and portray the lifestyle of each Doll in a real life for the time period of which they live. AMERICAN GIRL DVD THREE PACK MOVIES

I have enjoyed all the American girl movies, as have my three grandaughters!! They are well made with wonderful actors and have great historical as well as moral themes. American Girl DVDs

These are the best things for young girls. My 10 year old loves to watch these. It is nice to watch videos that are very age suitable. They are even nice for my 5 year old. We like to see the extras that give information about the time period. How nice to see movies that can teach young girls about the past in a nice way.
I would recommend these to any family with young girls. They are interesting and fun at the same time. They really remind me of the old movie Pollyanna.Read full review...

Wonderful DVDs... Wholesome and Entertaining!

I am always in the market for some entertainment that is wholesome and good for the family. It's hard to find this type of movie these days, unless you want an animated flick. These three American Girl movies were great. Before we purchased the latest American Girl movie, Kit Kitridge, we had never heard of them. I would highly recommend them to everyone.Read full review...
