Beautiful Setting

I own 30 André Rieu DVDs and this is one of my favorites. The setting, on the square in front of the imperial Hofburg Palace in the heart of Vienna, is stunning. The concert starts at dusk and proceeds into the evening hours. This concert is a little more formal than most of Rieu's concerts and does not include the usual 30-minute encore pieces than turn a concert into a party. (I like that too, but this is a nice change.)

This concert is heavy on the waltz and on the dance. The stage includes a dance floor on either side. The performers on the dance floors are the Ballet group of The Vienna State Opera, Thomas Elmeyer group of Debutant Couples and the Folk Opera group of Vienna.

I enjoyed Andre's brief and humorous historical account of how the Waltz conquered the world after Strauss played for Queen Victoria and she danced late into the night.

Very entertaining DVD

What can I say; you can't go wrong with Andre Rieu. The music is excellent and the musicians are funny. We have several of his DVDs and play them periodically, though I won't recommend them to the fast-paced, a little nuts, young generation :)!
