The Greatest MP3 Player Ever Made

I don’t think Apple, or anyone else will ever create a product so perfect for its function as the iPod classic. This charming little plastic and aluminum square boasts the most intuitive user interface out there, durability that puts other products to shame, and an iconic design that belongs in a museum. This is a device totally devoted to playing MP3’s, and it’s really, REALLY good at it. If you can find a model that has the Wolfson DAC soundcard in it, you will be amazed at the superior playback quality. It sounds much better than the playback on my smartphone. Another nice thing; my office has poor cell reception, meaning that my music listening is limited by both my data plan, and my phones ability to grab a signal. Not so with my iPod classic! I can listen to my tunes for days. Well, half a day really... the batteries in these things DO tend to degrade after ten days of use. ;-). If you feel like it, there are a number of upgrade services on eBay where you can send in your old iPod, and they will do a battery and hard drive replacement. iPod Classic 5th Gen

The unit I purchased fits the visual description of the item. The bad part is it needs a new battery as it does not hold a charge for long, and the battery is noticeably swollen. The mechanical hard drive also started having issues a couple of days ago, probably just a result of age and shipping. I will be replacing the mechanical with an iflash and the battery will be upgraded to a 3000mah battery as well. Ipod Video 5th Gen

Overall I have to say that along with my iPod mini, this has also done me well.

Of course, it is easy to use, small in size which is great for travel, there is more than enough room for music, pictures, and videos. You can play games and store all sorts of different media like notes, outlook calendars and reminders etc. The clickwheel is very easy to use and convenient for fast selecting and scrolling.

Although it seems that the battery life is not as long as Apple makes it seem. Maybe at the most 4 hours of battery life without a charger, especially when you are viewing video.

I have also had a bit of trouble with the iPod when it was first purchased. It for some reason had trouble while syncing pictures. Although with a bit of helpful customer service through Apple, I got it to work fine.

Since this model of iPod uses an internal hard disc for storage instead of flash storage, it takes a bit longer for media to load.

PROS:
1. Lots of storage space
2. Very easy to use
3. Bright screen, good for pictures and videos
4. Easy to sync with computer
5. Lots of additional features like games, calendar reminders, notes

CONS:
1. Back of iPod easily scratches over time
2. Takes a bit longer to load media to ipod and on ipod
3. Does not seem to be very resistant or durable
4. Battery life is not adept as it seems

Love the iPod, but...

I am a music teacher, so I am constantly downloading music for the iPod I use at school. I finally bought one for myself to use at home. I love both of them, but I get frustrated in that the iPod is "tied" to a certain computer - it cannot be connected to another computer to download music without losing everything previously downloaded to the iPod. This is problematic in that every time I want to put music on my home iPod that I have purchased at school, I have to make a CD of the music and bring it home - I cannot simply hook my home iPod to my school computer without erasing everything I have put on it at home. Again, I think iPods are great, but if Apple could work on this flaw in the design, it would be very helpful.Read full review...

It could be better. The only redeeming quality is the memory space.

I bought this because my radio in the car doesn't always work and silence isn't always golden. My previous ipod was stollen at work and the thief was never made to give it back or pay for a replacement. I was pissed at the company and the thief but I couldn't afford a new ipod. The one I had before was 4gb and had a long battery life of no less than 12 hours of play.
The ipod I bought on ebay to save me from the silence(doctor who reference intended). It has a great memory but the battery life really really stinks. With a full charge it only lasted I'd say 4-5 hours that is with out constantly changing songs. Would be a lot better if the battery lasted. I really enjoy the playlist section to put my favorite songs on rather than shuffle through the 3000 songs on the ipod. All in all I miss my old ipod but for the price I paid I got what was coming to me on this new one.Read full review...

This is a great concept which gies you better versatility, for example its like having a calendar, black book, photo albums, LARGE mp3 player, and a portable dvd player all in one. This item is a personal attachment for the one who loves movies and is away from the couch. I wish there were more on the go add-a-bility, meaning, to recieve "wifi" or bluetooth, pictures, notes or sharinng capabilities. You can only update the ipod from your computer. meaning, if you have a calendar update, a contact to add, or a picture to share, you cannot do this until you get to the computer. I love my iPods.

I’ve used iPods for years. Along with Sirius it’s the only way I listen to music my wife and I have 3 iPods, one in the living room, one in my car and one she takes to the art class she teaches. We only have the 30G units but hold all the music we need. And it’s easy to add/subtract what’s loaded there. The sound is as good as the speakers or headphones you use. And I like the ability to “shuffle”. When I want to. The iPod works well with the Bluetooth integration in my car. It stops when a telephone call comes in or when I turn the engine off and starts up again where it left off the next time I start the car. Bought an iPod classic 5.5 to keep me sane while working in a secure environment. Ordered it on a Thursday, it shipped Friday and I received it Monday, which was a day earlier than estimated, which made me happy. Came with a charging cable, headphones and case. The headphones weren’t great quality, but that’s fine since I have tiny ears and I wasn’t expecting to be able to use them anyways. Glad not to have to source a charging cable elsewhere. The case is a simple silicon sleeve that slides over the iPod. I requested a pink one and that’s what they sent me. A+. It was a bit of a learning curve at first trying to get zipped files and video to transfer over, but that was more of a user issue and figuring out what I needed to do in iTunes. Every now and then it comes across a file it just does not want to play and freezes up for about a minute. I’m not sure why since the first time i synced it, it played fine, but after later syncing, it got buggy. Not sure if it’s the file since it seems to be happening mostly with one song in particular. Sound quality is amazing and storage at 30gb is still far more than what I was allowed on my Apple Watch. Battery’s lasted a full 8 hour shift so far just playing music. Video GREATLY reduces the battery life, but I wasn’t really planning on watching a lot of movies. Mostly just a few musical presentations that aren’t in mp3 format. Large, easy-to-use- dials on this size IPOD

100% functional. It replaced a lost first generation IPOD, and tis 5th generation version seems identical. Battery life isn't great but thi vendor aso included the charging cable. What I wanted with one problem.

Was looking for a media player for my music and for me the 5th Gen iPod Classic was a great match for me. Synced my music from iTunes to the iPod and it worked great. One problem I had is for a lot of songs there were high pitched scratch sounds littered throughout a lot of my songs. I tried downloading the song again to see if the file was at fault but it didn't fix it. The only way I was able to get around this problem is by installing Rock box and the high pitched scratching noises disappeared. Also thought the hard drive was faulty but after replacing it with a SD card adapter it still gave off those sounds.Read full review...
