Apple Ipod touch 2nd generation

I bought this item after deciding that my ipod nano lacked additional space needed for my growing music library. The ipod touch is a wonderful ipod thats easy to use. I enjoy the bigger screen which gives videos a new life. I love how thin the device feels in your hand. Easy grasp. Already my music library has grown to such an extent, that i'll soon outgrow this one as well. The only draw back to this device that i find aggravating, is the off/on button at the top on the left. It's a major annoyance at times to get the device to shut off. I have learned a new technique that makes it easier to turn on/off now. Instead of using your finger on the button to push downward, take your fingernail instead and push down and in most cases the device performs the function needed. I enjoy using this ipod, and am looking forward to an upgrade in the near future.Read full review...

Great gadget, ok mp3 player.

I love all of the things this thing can do. With the wifi connectivity this ipod has, I can order pizza, or chat on yahoo messenger without being stuck in my room to my computer. It's thinner than the first generation ipod touch but personally I think this makes it harder to keep a hold of, I didn't mind the 1st gen being bigger. I guess if you have smaller hands you would like this ipod better. I love that this thing has an internal speaker, I don't have to haul around headphones which can be cumbersome if your just wanting to play with apps. The battery life is great too. I can use it all day and not have to recharge it unless I'm playing a 3d game, then the battery goes down faster but still great battery life. The only thing that I personally thought was lacking was the mp3 player function of the ipod. I'm the type of person who is big on sound quality and honestly this ipod doesn't have the best quality and keep in mind I use pricey aftermarket headphones, not the ones that come with the ipod. I find that navigating the songs is a bit more difficult that with the old circle mouse but maybe I'm just being a little picky. I guess the apps really just overshadow the music player in this device. The best thing about this ipod is that my car stereo has a USB ipod function to it. I can get in my car, plug in the ipod with the USB sync cable, and then pull up a playlist. The audio is digital quality VS using a stereo input jack that most car stereos come with nowdays which would not be digital. The sound quality is significantly better with the USB interface and I don't have to burn any cd's anymore. Overall a great product, had a fist generation for a while now, had this one for a few days, and so far I'm loving it.Read full review...

Good, but needs more memory and better speaker.

I like this unit a lot. It's like an Iphone without the phone. I actually bought a router from Amazon to go with it, so I'd have Wi Fi thoughout my condo. Plus, the router will give me extra security withough an extra firewall, so that's a bonus. The songs sync easily through Itunes, once I figured out how the program works, (Took a little work, but Apple Tech Support was WONDERUL in helping me set up my Ipod and my Itunes.) Setting up playlists is easy, and recenltly, I downloaded an episode of a TV show, and sat and watched it while waiting for a doctors appointment. Loved it.

The Wi Fi works great. To test it out one evening, I parked outside of a local "coffee house" that had closed for the evening. I was getting wi fi not only from the coffee house, but from the bagel shop across the parking lot. So, the wi fi has great range. It'll be nice when I'm sitting waiting in an airport to go visit my friend in NYC.

My only regret is the size of the memory and the external speaker. My previous player was a Microsoft Zune, which I loved, and it was a 30 GB unit that cost a lot less. I have 7 GB of music that I transferred to the Ipod, so I only have another 7.5 or so after system files for apps and more music. I wish Apple would have maybe made it a 20 GB unit. Also, it sounds WONDERFUL with the headphones on, but the external speaker has barely enough volume to hear it. Other than that, I'm happy.

Solid iPod with great ability.

This is a great iPod to get if you are looking at getting an iPod Touch.

PROS:

Built in accelerometer - helps with certain games and apps
Thin design - not as thick as an iPhone
Sound quality is good via headphones - also has internal speaker
Wi-Fi & Bluetooth
Long battery life for music playback
Long battery life for using apps
Lots of free applications
Can view MS Word, Excel documents and PDFs native

Cons:

Gets an attitude when connecting to a wireless network using WEP encryption.
SUPER easy to see finger prints on the screen
All iPod touches get scratched real easy on the back side
Cannot delete stuff like pictures directly from iPod

I have own a lot of iPods over the years, back form the first original 5 GB iPod, and this is by far the best iPod that Apple has come out with. It's nice and thin, and if you look at the size of the iPhone, you will notice that its not as thick. The best part about the iPod Touch, is that is has all the benefits of the iPhone without having to deal with AT&T.

There are some quirks that you should know about this iPod. First, when connecting to a wireless network, it will get an attitude and refuse to connect to networks using WEP encryption. So if you are tying to get it to connect to your current mac using the built in network sharing, and you want to encrypt the network, you are out of luck.

The screen shows finger prints real easy. I have purchased a cover to go over my screen, but it still shows finger prints amazingly easy. This can make it difficult to sometimes see what is on the screen depending on the light in the room.

It is pretty good at remembering your different wifi networks. I use my at home and school, and it can remember the wifi connections between all of the various buildings. One thing to note, when you have had it off for more than about 5 minutes or so, it takes about 30 to 45 seconds to find the wifi signal again.

I use mine a lot though out the day, and I have no problem using the apps and browsing the web for 6 to 8 hours a day. As with any thing with an internal battery, you need to make sure that you follow apple's advice on conditioning the battery. Full charge the battery, and use it until the battery is fully dead. Let it sit for 5 hours to make sure the battery is full drained, then charge it until it's 100% again.

There are a lot of useful apps that you can get off of the app store for free. There are some popular games that do cost money, but you can always find stuff for free. As of Apples last count, there were something like 85,000 apps available to download.

You do not have to be at your computer to download apps. You can do it directly from your iPod and also delete them directly from your iPod.

Since it has bluetooth built in, I assume that you could use skype and a bluetooth headset to make phone calls over wifi. However, I have not tested this functionality.

Although it says it has location based service, this is only when you are connected to a wifi network. The iPod uses the known ip address that you are connected to and uses this to figure out your current location. This does not have GPS ability, and you cannot use it for GPS navigation, unless you travel with a wifi source always with you.

All in all, I think this is a very solid and well built iPod.

Great iPod, somewhat of a tease...

I really like it, it's a great product for all those music lovers out there who want more than just music at their fingertips. I keep tons of pics of my kids on it, too, so I've always got them handy. I also love the video feature, put a few of my kids' TV shows on it, which keeps them occupied and quiet when were waiting in line somewhere or at the drs office. LOVE that I can sync my Outlook calendar to it and have the same calendar on my laptop and in my purse. My only complaint, if you'd call it that, is that it pulls straight WiFi, not that I didn't know that when I bought it, but there aren't a ton of open access networks around where I live/work, etc, so I'm often without a signal which means that now that I've gotten used to email in my hand, I don't have it - DEFINATELY makes me want an iPhone!, if for no other reason that the SIM to pull internet even without WiFi. I saw the new iPod Touch's have speakers, too, which would be nice. All in all a great product, easy to use, etc., just spoils you enough so that you want more.Read full review...

Great mp3 player.

Overall I'd say this is the best mp3 player I've ever owned. Overall being the operative word, it's not perfect by any means. There's a few things that I would have liked to have, like integrated FM radio, voice recordings, and an analog volume control.

However the addition of wi-fi connectivity and one of the best implementations of a mobile internet browser more than make up for those missing features (although I did have to get the 2.0 upgrade to be able to connect to my school's network).

The audio quality is above average on some aftermarket sennheiser earbuds (the included ones are horrible) and it sounds good enough connected to my car's sound system.

At 16 GB the system has more than enough space for my needs, unless I put some video downloads on it (which can quickly add up).

Battery life also seems to be a bit iffy, wi-fi (particularly downloading songs directly from the itunes wi-fi store) just eats the battery up, using graphic intensive games is also a battery killer. Usually after a full charge the battery lasts me through the day. Previous mp3 players could go for days without recharging but I understand how energy inefficient wi-fi is, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

I'm giving it a 4 due to the battery not lasting longer, the inability to connect to 802.1x and enterprise system wireless connections sans the 2.0 upgrade, and due to some of the hoops iTunes makes you jump through. But either way, despite these problems it's still the best mp3 player I've owned.

Will take care of all portabla media needs, good price, and a great product

While being a little bit bulky, the 2nd gen Apple Itouch (16gb) is an excellent way to access browse the web through wifi while managing your portable media. It has an incredible amount of virtual amenities in a fairly compact size. It is slightly longer than a normal ipod, but slim and overall lighter. The 2nd gen battery only holds around 40 hours, which is slightly inept compared to newer mp4 players.

For the price you can expect to pay (80-110), this is an excellent product to pick up.

My 2 cents on what newer generations could feature are a longer battery life, a much smaller size (ideally, 3rd gen ipod nano dimensions), and an optional 3/4g plan for people who don't want to be constrained by wifi zones, or lack thereof.

Ipod Touch 16Gb 2nd Gen

I decided to get this great device after searching high and low for an affordable price. The 2nd gen holds its allure, particularly over the 1st and 3rd gen, mainly in its voice-call features and low price point. At a retail price of $220 or so for a 16gb, it's cheaper than a 3rd gen, and provides better value for buck than a 1st gen.

I contemplated long before deciding to jump on one at eBay. I've never been more excited about anything.

The product arrived on my doorstep approximately 3 days later, and I opened it to find a sleek-looking device encased by a transparent plastic. The device--my baby--shines through the case, and I opened it to find the greatest tech invention of the 21st century. (Ok, maybe a bit of exaggeration there :p)

I love the ipod touch's big screen, I love the videos that I can watch on the ipod touch, I love the cover flow; but i'm not so fond of the sound quality. I'm an audiophile, a music-hardcore-perfectionist, so to speak, and the sound quality just fails to impress. I plugged in my Koss KSC75, Senn HD 555 and Ultrasone 750, and the songs were just not impressive. Yeah, they'll sound good on the cheap earbuds, but once you plug in the real deal, the headphones that are designed for audio perfection, Ipod touch just misses the bar. By a whole lot.

In a nutshell, this device shines in all aspects. It doesn't disappoint in what it does -- a media player. But I would definitely hope Apple will come up with a device that will sound as good as it looks.

Apple iPod

Can't complain too much about the products that Apple makes. The iPod Touch 2G is no different. Great product and made a great gift for 12 year old nephew. However, here are my complaints I have on the iPod Touch as well as all of Apple's products:

1) Why not sell a wall charger with this? Every other electronic device I can think of purchasing comes with a wall charger and not just a USB charger. The old iPods had them, why not this one? I don't get that one. They basically force you to buy another product so you can fully use this one.

2) Can't replace battery. I get that the Apple's battery is probably superior to batteries used by other electronic handheld devices, but to not have a the option to replace the battery just doesn't click. I can understand perhaps the aesthetic value in not having a rear battery cover, but there are more creative ways to hide the battery cover rather than not having one at all. All of Apple's lines reek of "we don't want you to know what is inside" feeling.

3) Expandable memory. Nearly every handheld device, phone, or even computers and gaming devices give the consumer the CHOICE to expand the memory of the product they purchased. They BOUGHT this. They should be able to upgrade it. Apple takes away what I feel is the right of the consumer to do whatever they want with the device they paid for.

Don't get me wrong, like I said, Apple makes absolutely beautiful devices. If they could change their business practice and the egotistical attitude displayed to their consumers we would have a win-win situation. But as long as they keep making good products and people keep gobbling up their "mind-control" marketing, there is probably no change coming in Apple's business tactics. As an example, with the recently revealed flaws on the iPhone 4, Steve Jobs has the audacity to tell the consumers that they are "holding it wrong"? Only Jobs can get away with a statement like that and not get fired as the CEO of a major corporation. As a consumer, I was utterly offended by that statement. That's like purchasing a car with brakes that don't work and the car company saying "You're not applying the brakes correctly." How does that make any sense? If only Steve Jobs were the president of Toyota, they might have not had so much bad publicity...

But anyway, back to the PRODUCT review, great buy. Go iPod Touch.

Finally, Watching videos is no longer an effort.

I already own two ipods (Video) and was interested in the new itouch ipod. It is much thinner and lighter then the other ipods, you can slip it easily into a pants or shirt pocket.

I reloaded this itouch with many of the items that I had on my older models. The picture quality and size is flawfless. The larger size and resolution makes
picture or video viewing a good experience. With the older model I often had to squint to view.

The touch key pad takes some practice. I had to play around with it for awhile. Gone is the click wheel. Once you get the hang of it, scrolling from one song to another takes a mere tap of the screen. All of my songs have the photo associated with it. My old ipod did not necessarily do this.

The Wifi is great when you can pick up a signal. You can go on the internet and do anything that you would be able to do with a Blackberry. The greatest feature is the keyboard that pops up on the screen, allowing you to type emails or keywords to search the web. The web-base is Safari.

The downfall is this ipod is 16gb. If you have a lot of songs or videos, you will fill this up quickly.

The price is high for something that is only 16gb, but you are paying for the technology.

The cons: This ipod does not fit into ihome (ipod charger and speakers) even with the adapters. The keypad which also serves as the screen gets dirty quickly. You need to clean it often. The entire case is made out of glass. If you drop it, it can crack the glass. Expensive.

The pros: It is sleek. Small weight and size. Large viewing area, pics and videos are clear and easy to see. Wifi. Can synch your with your address book such as Yahoo. Easy to navigate from menu to menu. Fun.
