iphone

Even though I'm an Apple Computer user, I don't consider myself an Apple fanatic. (So I don't consider this a bias review.)

I've owned a cell phone since 1992. I've always had a "top of the line cell phone" (I've always had AT&T = formerly Cingular = formerly BellSouth Mobility). I've had some really good phones: Motorola v60 "Vader", Nokia 6102i, and a Sony Ericsson T610. Then I've had some REALLY bad ones: Motorola RAZR, SLVR, Sony Ericsson s710a, Sony Ericsson Walkman W400, & most recently an HP iPaq 6515. In my 16 years of having cellphones, I've had over 100 (yes 100+) different models & makes.

I haven't had signal issues w/ many phones, it's always been asthetics that bothered me or the clumsy interfaces.

With every phone I've ever had, no matter how long I've had it - I always had a problem placing a call on hold & answering another call or joining a call into a 3-way call. With the iPhone interface being so well designed & the features so clearly labeled ... I don't have that problem any more.

As for the design - the Sony Ericsson s710a was a beautiful phone, but the way it flipped open was awkward. When you opened it - it flipped upside down. You had to open it, then rotate the phone to use it.

With the HP iPaq 6515 - I hated the keyboard. It was hard to see, crowded w/ characters & difficult to use w/ my large fingers. This is the problem I face w/ almost all phones w/ physical keyboards except the HTC 8525 - which has the best phone keyboard of any phone. iPhone users should try the pogo stylus.

The camera on my Nokia 6201i was great, but it was difficult to use & to get pictures off of.

The iPhone keyboard is clear, easy to use, & once you get use to it - allows for very fast typing. I used it more in the first 10 days of owning my iPhone than I ever used ANY keyboard on ALL phones I've ever owned.

The camera on the iPhone is terriffic - the viewfinder & capture buttons are crystal clear. It's easy to get the photos from iPhone to computer for editing.

Unlike most smartphones - that have Windows Mobile - the iPhone has an intuitive interface that's easy to understand & navigate. There's no need to read a manual - it's just simple to understand.

Before the iPhone I hated text messaging ... I texted more in the 1st 10 days than I have in the last 10 years!

Because an iPhone uses standard iPod sync & charge cables, accessories are easy to find.

Battery life is very good - even when utilizing power draining features like Wifi & Bluetooth.

I can actually use the calculator on an iPhone, unlike on other cell phones where you have to figure out what key corresponds to an add/multiply/divide.

The Google Maps feature is amazing w/ the ability to use satellite data. The GPS integration w/ LocateMe is awesome (upgrade to 1.1.

The weather forecast widget is nice to have - especially in the summer so you can plan your outdoor week or weekend spontaneously.

My only complaints thus far:

- Edge data network is acceptable, but I wish was faster
- I'd really like to see bluetooth data exchange so I could sync an iPhone via bluetooth.
- FM transmitters don't work well due to interference

Complaint that others have that's invalid:

- the keyboard is hard to use - at 1st it is ... it definitely takes getting used to. Once you start letting an iPhone correct your mistakes & just hitting the space bar, it becomes pretty fast. I've always thought this was an invalid complaint because blackberry & treo are just as difficult.

A great music player and pretty good phone.

Bought a 1g iphone with the intention of unlocking it on the TMobile network. I had been in the market for a used iPod touch and figured worst case, I would just use the phone as an mp3 player. The phone works great. I have no data plan for TMobile so was concerned this might be an issue. Thankfully, the iPhone checks for wifi networks first, and they are pretty much everywhere I go. The iPhone data plan is the main reason i did not choose to go the normal rout with at&t. I have been with TMobile for quite some time and get a pretty good deal. I also have little use for the internet on a phone. The music player is incredible. My main complaint is the silly audio jack that makes you use a special cable to connect to the car, or other audio system. i may get a 3g phone just for this reason. Since i have no need for the 3g data plan, there is little other reason to go with 3g.Read full review...

iPhone 1.0: Better than the hype/best cell phone ever

This review is for the 1st generation iPhone. For a review of the iPhone 3G or iPhone 4, see my other reviews.

iPhone take.

The product runs excellent and I'm surprised on how loud the external speaker is. I've heard two other iPhones, a refurb that I bought here and my brother in law's. Both didn't sound loud enough when playing back movies and other sounds (of course the refurb was slightly worse). I received a call today on my iphone and the custom ringtone sounded loud and clear. Pleasantly surprised since I was already conforming to the notion that these phones sound only good if you use headphones or additional external speakers. The only tiny drawback is that the seller put it in the description as "new, never opened". When I received it, it came with scratches on the side where the volume control is and the back. Otherwise runs great and smooth like new.

The Iphone is clearly an entertainment phone. If you want it for a very professional email client to use at work, or extensive use for enterprise then it might not be the way to go. There are other smartphones better suited for this. Of course the iphone might have some apps already available for this but it's not quite there. Plus, the iphone is a bit fragile, making it even more suited for entertainment purposes than industrial. But I have to say that Apple has intergrated very impressive hardware into this device (including the Touch which is so flat and runs as well; I don't tire of looking at it). They just need to put it to good use by implementing widely used software such as flash and video streaming, not just Youtube.

Great mobile communicator

This is the best communicator with the hi-tech advanced GUI based on Mac OS X, works great in Russia, but I would like to see this phones legally on the Russian market and don't buy them with tricks and unlock them and break legal rules.
I bought 5 iPhones for my family, unlocked them and we are very happy with this new product from Apple, we would like to see more native iPhones software for this puppies. I really enjoy watch movies on the road on my iPhone and listen music and be able to be always on touch via ICQ (Apollo client) and GSM network of course. :) I have a Russian virtual keyboard and localization on my iPhone and it makes it almost perfect, but I wish it was done by Apple from the start of this game. I think Apple made the largest second mistake in their history, they were need to sale iPhone unlocked worldwide and open OS X for developers.
Multi-touch technology that implemented in iPhone makes this communicator so cool, but I wish to have at least 3Mpx camera and be able to record video as well, not only take pictures. I wish to be able to use Bluetooth to transfer files to another phones, I wish to be independent from Apple and not be on the drugs from iTunes Store and be able to manage my own audio and video files without asking Apple if I could make this song as a ringtone.
Some kind Word and Excel software would be great to have on this phone as well, not just to be able to view but edit as well. File Manager on the phone would be great, I mean I have one, but not from Apple. :)
Well, that is all what I wanted to say about Apple iPhone.

Excellent phone, basic internet access and mp3 player

I love the iphone for its ability to incorporate multi-touch user interface and its ability to surf the web. On top of everything, its also a phone, with excellent voice quality. The downsides are the lack of Multimedia Messaging (MMS) the ability to turn off EDGE (w/o jailbraking) and viewing flash content on websites. Overall a good buy if you want to consolidate your phone and mp3 player and also using new features such as WiFi and taking advantage of the multi-touch interface with the Apps available for download.Read full review...

My New Tmobile iPhone!

I love this phones functions. My wife and I have iPod Touch's and wanted the phone for the web convenience. I had the TMobile Dash, and this phone kills it. The chargers I received with my phone didn't work, the home charger only makes the phone impossible to use while connected and stays that way for about 5 minutes after disconnected. The car charger barely charges, and the case is cracked. Lucky for me I keep my MacAir by my bedside, so I charge through the USB. This may seem like I'm bashing Superseller, quite the opposite. The phone itself works so well, I'm looking to get one for my wife now. The level of communication I received made him a pleasure to do business with. Thank you SS and Apple for creating a great product thatRead full review...

The Iphone 2G, even after all these years

I could have gotten a 3G, a 3GS, or even a 4. Why did I go for 2G?

To be honest, the stats from 2 to 3G iPhones are not that different. Save for size, 3G capability, and battery life (the 2G is better), there isn't much difference.

I decided I enjoyed a bulkier phone, I feel safer with something larger. I also have no data plan on my network, but enjoy wi-fi on my phone, so the 2G was the cheaper, and more practical way to go. Most 2G iPhones these days are jailbroken, unlocked, etc, so many free apps are available, as well as customization.

However, I'm not giving the phone 5 stars because it took jailbreaking and unlocking to bring out the full potential of the iPhone. The fact that Apple would keep so many things even regular cell phones had, like custom ringtones and video recording from being put on the iPhone, I have to lower my rating because of the company. However, because of users and their wonderful ability to overcome corporate holding, I enjoy my iPhone because of what I am now capable of doing with it.

The phone is great, the company's restrictions originally implemented on it are not. Hopefully that makes sense.

Anyone not able to purchase a modern Droid should think about an unlocked iPhone. I've already found many user made apps that allow similar products user made apps like the droid has. Only I'm saving quite a bit of money.

Apple iPhone

I have T-Mobile service and i bought an iPhone from ebay. it has a lot of cool features but a few tips for buyers who want to get an unlocked phone!!!!!!!!!
1. when you buy an unlocked iPhone the warranty is already voided on it.
2. Battery life sucks on iPhone (Apple does NOT wanna change my battery because my phone is unlocked.
3. some of the features does not work even if you program voice stream into your iPhone for T-Mobile "EDGE" Internet.
For example:
YOU TUBE: Does not work with "EDGE" unless you got a WiFi connection.
Mail: Works, but large emails cannot be opened unless you have WiFi connection.
Weather: Depending on EDGE strengh of connection, sometimes works and sometimes doesnt.
Voicemail: Would not have the cool features as AT&T customer would have like: (VISUAL VOICEMAIL) looking at the voicemails on your screen or being able to rewind forward it at any time. the voicemail would work only as a regular voicemail no cool features.
Navigation: Now the tricky part is that the "GOOGLE MAP" works but, The "GPS" Does NOT work. alot of you guys might think yours is working but the truth is its only the AT&T customer who can use the GPS and again i should say that you Map works fine and you can even get directions and all, but it can NOT track your current location and give you "STEP BY STEP" directions.

Apple iPhone Replacement Battery & Battery Lifespan?

Some people are upset about having to send in their iPhone, pay over $80. and get a loaner phone when the battery drains out? And here's an even deeper question: did Apple really pull the wool over our eyes when it comes to the iPhone battery?

Even if I did know about the non-user replacement iPhone battery, I would not have expected anything else. Sure, if I opened up the iPhone box and saw a removable battery, I would have been shocked to say the least. But alas, that did not happen. (I was not surprised)

Apple's policy on batteries for the iPod certainly hasn't slowed down iPod sales or damaged market share. Why would they change their ways for the iPhone. Do I wish the iPhone and Ipod had a replaceable battery with out having to pull out the solder kit. (and a very steady hand) Absolutely, Some are a little ticked that it will cost them &79 plus $6.95 for shipping when the batteries dies? Yes. Will Apple change their design? No

Here are some tips to extend your battery life:
1. Pay attention to just a few common sense pointers will pay off with a longer battery lifespan and battery life for your iPhone. The most important thing is to keep your iPhone out of the sun or a hot car (even the glove box is bad). Heat will degrade your battery's life and performance the most.

2. Lock your iPhone

3. Turn off Wi-Fi (especially if you are not going to be using it)

4. Turn Off Bluetooth

5. Turn on auto-brightness

6. Turn off Equalizer

I hope this helps you out on you iPhone battery Lifespan. Enjoy it, The phone is a lot of fun!

Best regards,

LSCGAMERS
