Stylish and light headphones with good sound.

Sound quality generally is good for their size, but rock fans don't expect good lows. These are lightweight and comfortable phones, but cable feels inconvenient in use and also too short.

Amazing treble, deep bass, not hyped, incredible soundstage, my favorite.

THESE ARE INCREDIBLE!!! I bought a set for my mom to use, she wanted something good sounding but light, and not in-ear.

Since they arrived, I've used them more than she has. They do need to be adjusted correctly, if they aren't, you only hear treble. But if you pull out the clip to the right spot for your ears, they're INCREDIBLE.

The bass extension is quite low, it's not hyped at all, but quite solid. The treble is where these really shine. The first impression I got of them is that they had too much treble. Breaking them in did wonders though, and now they are my favorite headphones I have available to me.

I need to get a set, so my mom can use her's...

The soundstage is incredible on these. Whenever I listen to a live perfomance on these, it feels like I'm really there. A good recording, through a good DAC and amp, and the're amazing.

I don't like them as much on iPod, iPhone, or iPad, though. The treble sounds brittle almost, with aliasing clearly audible. The sound from the Nokia Lumia 920 is amazing, these just don't play well with apple.

Overall, I love these clip-ons. They do have a rather obvious break-in period, but they are well worth the price.

Audio Technica fan review

I'm a fan of Audio Technica portable headphones product, I have owned ES 7, ESW 9, the legendary ESW10Jpn, ES10, EQ300 also AD700, W1000, also W10LTD and EW9 is my latest. EW9 has a very specialized sound, if you ever owned wooden Audio technica you'd know this sound. as it does carries Audio Technica house sound (v shaped with focus on female focal tones) but unlike the other phone with bigger driver it lacks the fullness which makes this phone sounds character limited to match classical and female audiophile character only. if you are listening any other genre especially rock you're better off getting EQ300 or koss KSC75. Rock is the worst, EW9 lacks energy and while it isn't really slow it sounds hollow on male focal and snare drum, also bass drum and bass guitar lacks presence and extension, and the sound-stage is tiny so everything felt compacted.

Listening to songs with female focal as main point however the detail is amazing, and AT signature sounds do pop up, Classical also sounds amazing on these, piano sounds crisps and detailed

the wooden housing is beautiful, better looking and built than esw9 polish but its very tiny, smaller than EQ300, also if you are average sized american male this phone will likely look to small and doesn't clip on your ear properly.

In short unless you are a fan of classical or female songs, get another phone instead

Quality headphones, easy to wear, pleasant to listen

After years of using in-ear Shure SE530 and SE535 with custom molds I decided to switch to something more easy to wear. In-ear headphones with custom molds provide the best sound, but are very hard to wear for a long time whithout fatigue. Being familiar with flagman Audio Technica headphones ATH-W5000, I already knew what "AT signature sound" is, so reading reviews on ATH-EW9 I clearly understand, that this is exactly what I want. ATH-EW9 are beautifully designed very light headphones. Despite the lack of ambient noise isolation, these earpieces provide high fidelity sound with deep tight and articulated bass, natural smooth and clean mids and ample treble (which could be a bit harsh when listening very loud). And I can wear them for hours, because they are featherlike and allow me to hear ambient sounds, which is very important, when you're crossing a street. The lack of ambient sound isolation may affect bass performance to some degree in a noisy environment (bus, underground). These headphones are made in Japan and have a distinct Japaneese look and feel, because of cherrywood earpieces.Read full review...
