These should really be called Toddler Genius!

I bought the entire set of Baby Genius films. I had purchased other series of films before, and I felt, it was never too early to expose my child to these educational films. I can't say, my son was impressed by the Baby Genius line. They don't seem age appropriate. I think, they are more appropriate for older, toddler aged children. I can see, 2-4 year olds watching most of these films. The age on all of the films say for 0-48 months. The films are shot in video with classical music backgrounds. They show footage mostly of children and whatever the theme of the movie happens to be. The classical music is traditional, and has not been altered to really appeal to children (unlike Baby Einstein). Some of the movies have costumed characters similar to PBS's Barney. They also, have computer animated cartoon characters that pop in and out of the video frames. There is little or no dialog to these films. There is some type of computer animation in most of the films.
Mozart and Friends Sleepytime has scenes of puppies, kittens, children, and flowers. This movie in particular could be watched by younger babies. The movie is rather poorly done. It is extremely fragmented with no particular theme. It contains a large amount of dated computer graphics. The video is shot badly. It seems thrown together. In one scene, you may see video of puppies. The next scene goes into geometrical computer graphics. The next scene may have computer animated numbers. So, this movie really has no common pattern. It has a background of Mozart, and the music is soothing. There is no dialog. It is not as colorful as the Baby Einstein films. My son is 11 months, and they just don't hold his attention like other baby film lines. I would skip these films and go with the Baby Einstein collection. They are age appropriate, and the films have various age categories that grow with your child. Also, other good lines are the Fisher Price series, Classical Baby, and Curious Buddies.

Baby Genius-Mozart and Friends Sleepytime (DVD,2004)

I LOVE these videos and so do my kids. It is a nice way to have some down time with them and get them ready for bed as well as time to learn their letters and numbers. These videos keep my kids attention where others do not. And the soothing music makes them sleepy! Highly recommend them to everyone! My son knew his numbers letters and colors by age 2 and I owe a lot of that to these DVD's! The music, the slow repetition of letters and numbers and the vibrant colors really sink into their minds and helps them to identify. I can't say enough about Baby Genius DVD's So glad they are available.Read full review...

My son loves Baby Genius Series

The Baby Genius Series is very basic and that's what makes it perfect. It appeals to infants and toddlers. Some of what the previous reveiw says is true, but you have to remember that there is no major plot or dialogue because it is meant for very small children not for adults. These DVDs are meant to expose your child to soothing classical music and stimulate their interest with the things that they find fascinating at this age. Have you ever noticed how interested and excited your infant is with animals such as puppies & kittens? My son is 8 months old and he finds the Baby Genius series very fascinating. At this age, nothing holds his attention for long periods of time, but we put the DVD on in the room while we are playing with him, and when he sees something he likes he stops and stares or laughs and even tries to go over and touch the puppies, all the while the soothing classical music is playing. Baby Einstein and other serise are also good.Read full review...

Mozart before bed time.

My 7 month old son LOVES this video. He watches it almost every night before bed time... When his old copy stoped working we could tell he was sad because he didn't get his normal video every night. All smiles now.Read full review...
