Best Core2 Quad for a Dell OptiPlex 755

I got this Q9650 to install into my Dell OptiPlex 755 Mini-Tower PC [got it 2 years ago-here on eBay], it originally came with a Core2 Duo processor [E8400/3.00Ghz/6M/1333] and 2Gb/DDR2/PC-6400 of RAM. I maxed the RAM to 8Gb and set it up as a Dual-boot machine [with Windows 7 Professional/64-bit & Windows Xp Professional/32-bit]. While this PC was very fast at that point, it became lightning-fast with this processor upgrade.

Being a 2008 PC, I was limited by the LGA 775 processor socket for possible CPU upgrades. Checking ratings and benchmarks for several processors with the LGA 775 design, the Q9650 always ranked above other processors that could be installed [and still ranks above plenty of more modern processors].

Everything that I do on this PC now happens instantly. While running in either Windows 7, or Xp, the system used to "think" for a second-then execute. Now, with this processor upgrade, everything executes instantaneously, on demand. I may never need to upgrade again for faster performance, besides, anything more modern that could run this great would probably be very expensive. So far, with all memory, graphics card, and processor upgrades that have been done, including the original purchase of the Mini-Tower, my overall cost has been less than $300.00. Now I have stellar performance with this processor.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650

Nice CPU to install on a ASUS P5Q. While this is listed as a"retired" Intel CPU, think again. 12M of cache per core, 1333 mHz at a 9 multiplier? That is still a lot of horsepower for a "retired" CPU. Various sites still list this between $150 to over $200. For the money, this CPU rocks. Mild overclock to 3.2 with air cooling by FSB increase only. Raised my Windows 7 Experience score to 7.4. I think this will keep me from moving to the newest Core i5 or i7 and newer motherboard and memory for quite a while. Great to get a pretested, guaranteed unit too.Read full review...

the best cpu I could stuff in my Dell Optiplex 780's lga 755 T socket with a Q45 express chip

what can I say other than this is one of the best performing CPU's I have ever owned. bought it for an old dell 780 optiplex mt project running win 7 64 pro. . an SSD, 16G RAM, AMD R7 250 and the windows index with the stock E 7500 core 2 duo topped at 5.6.. dropped (literally dropped) this Q9650 and the windows index went to 6.9.... that's the same as my Dell 470 Vostro mt with an Intel 3rd gen I-5 3450. so far I am unable to max out this Q9650. my 60+ Mb internet connection gives out long before. the old E7500 would max out watching netflix and downloading updates. barely hits 30% on this Q9650. from cold button push to online with firefox open in average of 48 seconds! even with the intel matrix storage user annoyance startup delay. works much better than I expected it would worth 2x what I paidRead full review...

Fast LGA-775 CPU

One of the fastest CPUs for older 2004-2008 era LGA-775 motherboards.

Easy drop-in replacement for Core 2 Duo (upgrades to Quad core at 3.0 GHz).

Passmark Multi-Thread score: 4272
Passmark Single-Thread score: 1272

In other words, this processor is still very good for computing today.

It can also be overclocked well depending on your motherboard and bios version. Be sure to use a 3rd party CPU cooler since the stock intel ones are not as great.

[Note: Passmark scores for comparison available on another website, ie. the 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Q6600 only gets 2988 Multi-Threaded score, and 923 Single-Threaded]

A great little processor, at the top of its class.

This processor is the top of the for processors in its class and it performs basic tasks well. Similar specs to the Q9550 with a little bit more power. It will get your basic jobs done and still play some older games too.Read full review...

best upgrade to socket 775 system

I purchased the Q9650 in order to upgrade my HP ELITE 8000, E8400. This is one of the fastest 775 cpu processors. I also tested the processor on Fujitsu Esprimo.

I tested the processor with UserBenchMark and it was worling better than average in the 75th percentile without overclock.

I use it with Geforce 750 Ti OC, and I find that this makes a good combination.

What you need to know is that the termal paste you get does not work with this processor. Use the highest grade termal paste you can find. And no not forget to monitor tempreatures if needed you have to change the cooler.

Just make my Mac Pro a bit faster

Works great with Mac Pro 3,1. Lower power consumption then X5482. Only down side is the memory speed is at 667 instead of 800. But I wasn't upgrading any memory out so it didn't matter.

Max out you old Intel socket-775 computer.

The Q9650 is the ultimate socket-775 CPU and gives a WEI of 7.3 for the CPU.
Intel has an excellent free Processor Diagnostic-Evaluation program to test it and your fan/heatsink installation. <br>To save a few bucks, order the Q9550 which is slightly slower and will still give you a 7.2+.

Just as I hoped!

Just as I hoped it would be. Had to update my BIOS but no need to re-install OS. Was delivered before I expected. (Live in Norway) Updated my Duo to this Quad. Works much better now in Win 10.
