Batman does Anime

I am not a fan of Anime or Manga AT ALL--I consider the vast majority of those arts to lack originality, focus, plot, and all those other things that typically transform a mere bunch of words into an actual "story." But because the DVD was cheap and because I am a huge fan of Nolan's Batman, I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised.

There are six stories in this collection, all of them fun to watch. It really helped that each story came with its own "style" of artwork, which meant it avoided seeming too much like an Anime movie. The stories also were typically well-constructed, especially the one at the beginning--they not only had a great deal of action in them, they also provided several intriguing character studies. Some of the stories here (possibly all of them, I'm no expert) seem to have been lifted directly from the comics or the cartoon series.

For those who especially like the Nolan films because of their "realism," as opposed to the "comic-bookyness" copouts of some of the Batman comics, be forewarned that parts of these stories have unrealistic elements, even more so than the Nolan movies themselves. Still, Nolan's films did have occasional instances of unreality (flipping a semi truck, for instance, or having a motorcycle burst out from a wrecked tank), and these stories simply take those elements a bit farther. For the price I got it ($1, plus S&H) this was more than worth it, but I personally wouldn't pay more than $10 total for it. All in all, it's mostly a very fun distraction for rainy days.

Not Bad,Batman fans will enjoy.

This animated movie tells six different stories. Most of the animation is okay.I was never really into anime cartoons, which alot of this looks like. The way Bruce Wayne is drawn in a few of these leaves something to be desired. The story lines are really interesting,I think. The best one in terms of animation and storyline in my opinion is the one that features Deadshot as the villain.
Kevin Conroy does the voice for Batman. He was perfect in "Batman the Animated Series",but seems out of place here(except somehow in the Deadshot chapter).I wish they would have had him or someone else talk in the low, deep voice that Christian Bale uses in "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight".All in all, good watching for Batman fans.

Batman with a Japanese Twist

This is one more product of WB's strategy to release DVD-only titles in parallel to theatrical releases in order to boost DVD sales, helped by the main movie. Instead of a full length story, what you will find in here in "Batman Gotham Knight" is six short animations which are not exactly interwined amongst themselves as the product description in the DVD case says (at least in my opinion), but six different stories on how Batman came to be who he is. It is not a mandatory bridge between "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight", but it is an interesting addition for fans.

Why the "Japanese Twist" in the review title? Well, watch the DVD, look in the eyes of each character and you will get the answer. And if you still doubt about it, wait for the rolling credits in the end and see the names of each member of the production crew.

Batman - Gotham Knight...

... is a DVD worth watching.... once.

Why? It has a different feel to it, a sort of 'anime' style for some of the characters.

The artwork is Okay in the first few chapters of this DVD, and gets better in the latter epsiodes. This DVD is taken from the Animated Batman series that was shown on TV.

It is worth watching once IHMO, but unless you are a true Batfanatic, it probably doesn't belong in your collection of DVDs. If you are a completist... then you might want to consider it.

There was nothing about the DVD worth watching again, or to have to pull out to refresh your memory on an episode. It isn't even presented as a 'Best Of' the TV series....

Entertaining for a single showing... definitely a 'rental' in my opinion.

Batman: Gotham Knight

I have been a fan of Batman for as long as I can remember and I must say this one is quite different. I not usually into Japanese anime version films but this is an exception.
I rented it once and that's how I knew I'd be interested. I don't exactly enjoy all six short films, but it's still enjoyable. I also liked that Kevin Conroy was the voice for Batman. I always thought he was best suited for that role in animated versions
This film does contain a bit of violence and bloody scenes, but I don't find that disturbing.
If your a Batman fan or enjoy Japanese anime, this, I think, would be a fitting dvd to add to your collection.

Good movie

I purchased this as a gift for a friend’s son. If you’re a fan of Japanese Anime, I believe that you will enjoy this movie. It stays similar in storyline and action as the recent Batman movies, in being dark and action packed.

For parents of young children. There is some cursing in the movie, but not excessive, and there is one scene where (Bruce) is working at a field hospital as a volunteer and they are extracting bullets from a man who is awake and yelling that some parents may find a little gruesome, but this is done in the traditional anime fashion

One of the best Batman stories ever told.

A great DVD. Fits in well with the Christopher Nolan Batman series but is also great as a stand-alone DVD. The animation is superrb and the stories are top-notch. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a solid 9.Read full review...

Batman - Gotham Knight

My young sons and I love batman and I had not seen this movie in the stores. It turns out to be a very adult, dark animation that was not appropriate for small children and was enjoyable to me. My fault, I should had researched it first and not assume that because it was animated that it was for family fun.Read full review...
