A Superb Mixer With a Great Price
When you compare this mixer with its competition peers similar products, it just blows the socks out of their feet. Feature by feature, it outperforms all of them: Bar none! Hardware wise, it has enough inputs and outputs for most small to medium gigs and for larger setups, can be daisy chained (networked) with additional units. The X-Air editor is an easy powerful editor that, computer & tablet wise covers all functional aspects of this mixer. Software wise, the included DSP instruments are worth many times the price of admission of this unit.
Trendwise, this unit follows the industry single channel trend of its peers and functionally, its a strict Mic/Line set-up which does not readily address, from a keyboardist or synthesizer modules user standpoint, the functional versatility of stereo mixing features. In this respect, what in principle looks like 16 inputs availability is enough, for stereo operation, is only 8, which for smaller gigs, seems adequate but for medium venues is quite small. However, this shortsighted coming is the rule of thumb for all mixer manufacturers in general. They just do not seem to recognize the keyboardists stereo equipment input issue altogether. Also, in the way of additional digital interconnection & mixing, I would have wished an additional USB or Firewire in/out.
Apart from these two functional issues and, specially at this price range and full featured offering, this is a no brainer.
In my opinion, forget the competition and don't look anywhere else for an ultra mixing utility Hardware/Software solution and operational experience.Read full review...

18 channels on an Ipad. What's not to like?
From the small size of an 18 channel mixer to the Midas preamps. This Berhinger mixer not only eliminates the need for a hardware mixer and racks of EQs, compressor/limiter, reverbs, delays and other items that take up space and weight in the van, but they also supply all of these very things in the app that can be downloaded onto your iPad. Granted, you need Operating system 7 or better on your iPad, but the only thing I run on my version 1 is OnSong for lyrics. It's easy to set up and has it's own wireless router for sending or receiving on the X Air. The FX included are incredible and the choices are many. Two outputs for mains and aux sends which can be used for monitor sends make this easy to setup for powered speakers for PA and in ear systems or an array of powered monitors across the stage. You are allowed to set up different stage assignments for different bands and the memory will save you time on set up. Also… if the iPad were to go down during a performance, the X Air will keep the channels and FX open, allowing you a reboot of the iPad. I've not seen mine go down yet and not being a fan of Berhinger equipment in the past, these guys have knocked it out of the ballpark! I've used this brand of unit in another band which allowed me time to gauge it's issues and after two years, I decided it was a stable product and would replace my Allen & Heath Mix Wizard board and a rack full of eight products I can now sell! I'm also free to roam off the stage to set the mix with my iPad in hand and any of my players with iPads can login and set their own monitor mix. Bazinga!

The "new way" of mixing sound
I've been using a virtual Mixing Board in the studio for Years and Years and Years. I've recently been asked to "run live sound" - for a project where my little 12 channel mixer - just isn't going to cut it. Additionally I may need to Record the show and I may need a couple different monitor mixes. This give me 6 additional channels, the ability - if I add another PC - to capture discreet channels to file(s) - and the cool feature of walking away with my control surface to ring monitors, right from the stage, and check and change the levels anywhere in the venue.
The only think that would be really cool is if I didn't have to run my 2 or 3 stereo inputs back to the stage. If I put this Digital rack mixer back by the power amps near the stage, there would be NO WIRES running from the mixing station to the stage to have to worry about routing around the walls, taping down and covering with carpet.
It took me a couple of hours to learn the interfaces... But that's because I have IOS on my phone, ANDROID on my control surface and PC on my LIVE SHOW machine. Each of the interfaces present with some slight and some major differences.
I still haven't figured out how to "copy" the main mix to BUS 5 & 6 so I can turn off my power amp and mix set relative levels - through the local monitors at my house mix station.
Overall especially at the nearly 300 dollar discount I got from buying here... I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
I've just constructed a wooden case, that houses this mixer, and all 6 wireless mic receivers, pre-wired. When I get to the gig, I'll put 6 receivers in place... plug in the power which is already on the rack, and plug in the snake inputs, which also is there waiting. In doing this - my set up time will be about the same as the time it takes to boot the 3 computers, I use in my shows.
I said "yes" to "easy to use"... that's pre-supposes you take the time to suffer the learning curve present for ANY product of this complexity.

Great product
One might at first find the device confusing, but I have the Behringer X32 as well and that experience helped greatly in understanding how to use the product. It has so much capability and I recommend using a large screen tablet or notebook as control, although even a smartphone can be used. If in an area where there is a large number of WiFi channels being used, I would carry a CAT6 cable to direct connect if needed. I have not found this necessary yet.
The Windows application for notebooks is better than that for tablets which is better than smart phone apps I find.

Great digital mixer for live shows AND studio!
This is the 2nd one I've purchased and still loving it.
I ordered the first one on behalf of my church November 2017, from a music focused site.
Since setting it up and using it for services, I've been extremely impressed with the versatility, quality, and features for the price, it got me to wanting one as well.
I had already been looking at an interface for a few years for home recording, or even portable recording . . . in the sense of, "let me bring the 'studio' to you," by just bringing an audio interface, a mic and a laptop, should such a need arise.
I had been settled on the scarlett 6i6 as i figured i'd never need more than 6 inputs at home. Over the past few months, as the time to buy came near, I started leaning toward a mixer than could also do live mixing so I can practice songs at home before church as well, and even with guests. That's where this mixer caught my eye.
At the church we use it for mixing songs when people sing as well as recording them, and recording the sermons. It has performed very well.
We use it's built-in WiFi (password protected) for now and have not had any issues with range, with us usually controlling from 100ft away.
I would've preferred to by the 12 channel version and save myself a little $$, but I learned that ONLY this version includes the 18 track recording to a DAW. I believe the next step down only does a stereo mix and the 12 channel doesn't at all, so those we're deal breakers for me which meant I had to get the 18 channel. I don't regret it.

The end of the large format analogue mixer
I've been doing audio for more than 20 years now. Years of lugging large format mixers around are now a distant memory. There are so many advantages to a unit like the XR18. For a start, you don't need a snake. Also, with the built in EQ, gate and compressor on every channel and four FX busses with a myriad of digital FX, you don't need a huge FX rack either. Remember the days of rationing out the compressors and gates to those channels that REALLY needed them? No more, you have one for each channel. You also have multi-band fully parametric EQ on every channel, every bus! Performers can mix their own monitors from their smart phones! You can wonder around the venue with a tablet and get the mix perfect. The preamps in the XR18 are stellar too. Performers in my band keep telling me how much better everything is sounding. I didn't know how bad my old mixer sounded until I got this unit. The sound is super clean. Reliability on the XR18 is 100% after several gigs too. Great stand-alone or submixer
Using the XR18 in conjunction with an X32 FOH mixer. The XR18 is my backstage submixer for the orchestra, using all 18 inputs for keys, percussion, drums, reeds, horns, violin, etc. A L/R feed from the XR18 goes into my rack with 24 wireless and two S16 stage boxes networked over AES50 to the X32. A vocal send from the X32 is fed into channel 18 on the XR18 to feed channel 16 on the fourteen P16 monitors used by each musician over Ultranet output from the XR18. The XR18 is controlled FOH by a networked Dell XPS 18 all-in-one running X-AIR-Edit. For setting foldback levels/mix on stage as a bus send I used the XR18 wi-fi feature on a tablet running X AIR Android 1.5.3.

Behringer XR18 x-Air
This mixer is totally awesome. With 16 input channels and 2 line inputs it is more that enough for a small band. Our small group has five vocalist with instruments and two additional guitars and a violin (Fiddle). That is 13 inputs. This mixer handles it quite well. The interface is via PC/IOS/Android/ and the apps are easy to use. You can store and label all your inputs and recall them for subsequent gigs. With the Tracktion 7 software recording all the tracks is a breeze. It has to connect via a USB cable though. it works well with WIndows 10. Very pleased with the XR18. Lots of power for the money
The XR18 is a full-function 16-preamp digital mixer in an ultra-compact package. You can use the XR18 like a stage box. There is no traditional mixing console (faders and such). You typically use an Android pad or an iPad to control this mixer. The network support is built in, and includes both Ethernet client (attach to an existing network) and WiFi access point (where the XR18 provides the WiFi network. It is the latter mode that you use with the pads and setup is quite easy. The software reliably finds the XR18 on the WiFi network and the mixing operations are fairly straightforward.
The XR18 provides a USB port that can do 18 in - 18 out for multi-track recording and playback. This requires a separate computer (typically a laptop running a product such as Waves TracksLive. Once configured with the proper drivers, that has been a very reliable setup for me. I configured a laptop with SSD drive and have never experienced a single dropout.
In addition to the main stereo mix, you can mix 6 buses for monitors through the XLR connections, or you can use the proprietary Behringer monitoring system that allows each performer to control their own monitor mix.
In addition to the 16 preamps, there are two additional 1/4" inputs for a stereo aux source. I added a separate Bluetooth receiver so I can stream canned music from a cell phone or other Bluetooth-capable device.

Really quite an incredible little box.
I have owned the XR18 for about 3 weeks now and have used it at a few of our practices. I have always used analog boards, outboard effects/compressors, EQ's, gates, snakes, etc, and have lugged this stuff around for years to gigs. This literally takes the place of ALL of that and it does it well. The Midas preamps (to me) sound better than my Presonus studio grade preamps - much more clarity and liveliness. I was a little skeptical about my ability to control the mixer through my 10 inch android tablet, but I got used to it quickly. The software is intuitive and if you know analog boards with effects sends/returns, groups, and aux's, you will pick it up quickly. The greatest thing for us as a band is the ability to use the XAir Q, which allows independent control of each of the six out's so that you can have custom mixes for EACH monitor that can be controlled by each musician.
