Inside the war in Europe

Bill O'Reilly's book "Killing Patton" not only covers the conspiracy of the sudden death of George Patton, in a suspicious car accident, but covers the, in intimate detail all the allied leaders during the last six months of World War II. The style of writing reminds me of Truman Capotes' "In Cold Blood" as O'Reilly takes a non-fiction story and weaves a tale that reads like a fictional novel. General Eisenhower's mistress, FDR"s fluency in the German Language, and Winston Churchill's inability to get re-elected immediately after the war. Did I mention George Patton. If you enjoy the history of World War II and the dirty business of our leaders as they act just like leaders have acted throughout the history of man.Read full review...

"Killing" Patton - DOA

Although I found the book well written & liked it well enough to recommend it to others; it does not really delve into the "death" of Patton like I expected from the title.

It had lots of stuff on Patton, but was mostly a overview of the war, other generals & leaders in WWII.

All was interesting but "not" the in depth info on Patton I expected & just a re-hash of info that anyone with a general knowledge of WWII would already know.

Worth a read but not if you have to pay full hard cover price. Wait & get it used.

Quick read with surprise facts

I've enjoyed all of the O'Reilly "Killing" books and this one did not disappoint either. They manage to find and publish little known facts that are always a surprise. I intend to read all of them.
In this book, and I've been reading about WWII for over 50 years, there was information about Russia's final push into Germany, and then post war behavior that I've never read before.
O'Reilly has summed up the final months of WWII and Patton's role into a neat little package.

Masterpiece

I am 70 yrs. old and all my life I have heard, read, and seen movies about WW II. Not until this book, "Killing Patton", did I have such an overall understanding of exactly what took place in Europe during the war; the main players, and places and how it all intertwined and came together. O'Reilly and Dugard have done it again with their in depth research and storytelling ability. One of the best "Killing" book so far. Anxiously awaiting "Killing the Rising Sun" for all the same reasons.Read full review...

War is Hell

I bought this book because it was a selection for our book club. At first, I wondered how I was going to get through this book as it is not typical of what I usually read. I thought this was a "man's" book. However, as I continued to read, I became engrossed in the events of WWII and the hardships, horror and savagery of war. The number of casualties on all sides was astronomical and those staggering numbers stated as happening everyday of the war, made me shutter with thoughts of it happening again. Especially frustrating, as an American citizen, was that even a war can't be fought without politics and personalities influencing decisions on how the war should be fought and the spoils divided. I was not surprised that the murder of a prominent general, an exceptionally skilled & seasoned strategist was a political maneuver by ruthless, power hungry contemporaries of General Patton. I question that the human race has not evolved too far from the cave. This was a well written and thought-provoking book. I recommend it.Read full review...

Patton

Patton one of the best known Generals of WW2 did in what can only be described as strange. The book gives a closer look not only on Patten but some others major players: FDR, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Winston Churchill. General Dwight Eisenhower as well as Eisenhower's driver, Key Summersby and there secret relationship. I found this book to be very interesting and worth reading.Read full review...

A Story Worth Telling and A Must Read!

Highly recommend the reading of this book and all of those written by O'Reilly and Dugard! It seems like a lot of our history gets lost in today's current struggles. Books like this one, along with the others in the "Killing" series, are important additions to all home and school libraries. They are all MUST reads!Read full review...

Interesting but draws your attention!

I’m someone who was never interested in history and therefore no nothing about it. The Killing series, which includes Killing Patton, is a really good way to learn and it presents information in a way that tends to stay with you. It keeps you intrigued and excited to read more.Read full review...
