An Affordable Essential

Because I'm not yet eligible for an upgrade on my Verizon Phone, but wanted to get rid of my DARE, I opted to go for the affordable Curve while waiting for my upgrade. While my DARE had all the bells and whistles, it made checking the email for my small business a pain, and it seemed to be made more for those who want to go nuts with apps, etc. On the other hand, my Curve makes doing business easy, especially since I work in a secure office where I cannot check my external emails while at my day job. I've found that responding to clients with virtual immediacy has made the curve totally worth it - and the enhanced response time has definitely helped me garner a few more clients.

For fun, the Curve also has the free app for "Pandora Radio", which is awesome - it makes the unlimited data package worth it b/c I can plug in my blackberry to my car stereo and it's completely eliminated any desire I've had to get Satellite Radio.

The only downside i could find to the Curve is the camera. While it's very easy to use, the quality doesn't match some other phones I've had, but since I do photography any way, I've always got a good camera handy, and have just gotten back to using IT instead of my phone for quick shots.

All and all, it's a must-have for those who're looking for business basics with some added perks.

Nice compact phone with lots of capabilities

I drifted away from an internet and email Blackberry phone a few years ago. I recently had a need to have constant access to mt business email and having the web browser is a bonus. I'm on Verizon so I'm limited to their compatible phones. I looked at the Droid and like its features but began to hear some downsides to it such as very short battery life. Then the announcement of the Spring release to Verizon for the Nexus One. I can't wait for it so I bought a used Blackberry 8330 on Ebay after reading a lot of reviews.

I like the Curve 8330. Having access to emails is so convenient and set up was easy. The apps don't appear to be as fast or easy to use as the iPhones both of my sons own but I didn't expect it to be.

The only annoyance is the very small numbers on the pad for dialing. Fortunately the voice commands work exceptionally well on this phone.

I may still opt to get the Nexus One after it is released on VErizon and I read some reviews on how that works out. But in the meantime I'm very satisfied with the Blackberry 8330.

Blackberry Curve 8330

Very good phone for what I need. Easy setup for checking email on multiple accounts.
QWERTY Keyboard is very easy to use. I prefer this type of keyboard over the touch screen types, and I find it easier to use than other phones that I have had in the past.
Battery life seems to be very good. I don't surf the web a lot with this phone, but even still in comparison to other smart-phones, this battery seems to hold a charge very well.
I like the fact that I can choose to setup the Blackberry Messenger with other Blackberry users. It gives you many options that are not available in the "normal" SMS texting modes. For instance, you are not limited by message length and there are a ton of symbols available.
Overall, I think this is one of the better phones for the price.

Good features, battery life, and overall a well designed phone.

This is overall a good phone. It has a nice QWERTY keyboard with buttons easy enough to press for those with bigger fingers. This phone has lots of good features such as the shortcuts on the main screen for messages, email, etc. It has good internet quality and good battery life. When it comes to simplicity, this Blackberry is much easier to understand than the Blackberry Pearl. It can lag a little bit when scrolling with the tracker ball, but other than that, everything is great. This is an efficient, reliable, and easy phone to use.Read full review...

Blackberry Curve 8330

This is the phone I should have gotten a year ago instead of the LG enV Touch. More versatile with apps available for most online activities instead of just using a mobile web portal. The phone is a bit wider to accommodate the QWERTY keyboard - the keyboard is small, but no more difficult to work with than an iPhone/iPod Touch in portrait mode.

Received this used unit with a sturdy Body Glove case. The case makes the hefty feel of the phone seem even more solid, although it does make some of the keys on the edges a little more difficult to push. But only a little.

Have had a few issues with the phone locking up during some usage - mainly 3rd party apps that probably have a coding problem (but I'm no programmer). Have only had to remove the battery to "reset" once though - usually patience clears the error if it won't respond to key presses immediately.

Overally, the Blackberry 8330 is a great phone. Verizon has decent service (although I don't agree with the extra monthly charge just because it's a blackberry). The phone holds a charge all day for me - even with the signal problems at work which seemed to kill the enV.

Unless a killer Android tablet/phone hits in another year, I foresee many Blackberry options in my future.

Fits in with the Usual (8500,8900,9700) Suspects!

If you're familiar with the 8000 series of Blackberry phones, then you can trust this brief review when I say that this version is solid, similar to the others, works well enough, has better reliability than the 8100 or the (pffft) 8200 series, and can be loaded with OS 5.0 regardless of Carrier support and shoulder it well.

Good camera for it's specs, good call clarity, good screen.

They figured out the housing manufacture on later 8000 series models. Don't drop this thing 20x, OK? Also, the doors to SIM card and MicroSD - no more tin foil RIM!!! No more trackballs!!

I'd never have bought it new or retail or for a contract, but I snagged one for $100 in 2008-2009 and found it to be a great phone for the time and for the price.

But it's 2010 and if you can afford one of the good models, get a droid. In 2013, I doubt RIM will even use it's own OS anymore.

RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330

blackberry curve 8330 I bought this 3 weeks ago. because I need its functions. such as push email, chat, and multitasking functionality. in my country to be able to use the blackberry internet service (BIS) with low prices and monthly only CDMA is cheaper. GSM Network monthly package price is still high. The Phone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good for 48 hours standby and talktime up to 6 hours if you use with hands-free. My only complaint is the low That only 96 mb of internal memory. if the upgrade to OS 5, the remaining memory is only 25 mb. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.Read full review...

Great little phone!!

It is a great phone. Not as bulky as the previous models I have looked at. Though small, buttons are comfortable for me to use (and I have acrylic nails). My only complaint, if any, is that my husband has a Droid X, and the internet navigation and display is better. But, I new that when I got this one, and I can get around the menus and contact lists much better on the Blackberry compared to the Droid.Read full review...

It is an excellent phone.

Like previous Curves, the Curve 8330 has a full HTML browser that works with not only mobile sites but also full HTML sites. Page rendering is good once you turn on all the page layout support options in the browser, but not as good as the Safari-based browser found on the iPhone and Nokia S60 phones (see photo). It has full page view with a cursor to navigate the page and zoom, and has support for Javascript, cookies, cache and more. But it has some trouble loading relatively uncomplicated layouts such as MobileTechReview’s web site where the Curve rendered only 2 columns out of three correctly while the iPhone and the Nokia N95 browsers render the page in true desktop fashion.Read full review...

For the price ... it is a good replacement phone ...

I purchased this phone as a replacement for my droid. ( Water damaged only 4 month into a contract, I did not want to spend a lot to replace it. )
I didn't expect too much from this Blackberry - the price was right - if it would perform the minimal tasks I needed.

It is a pretty standard phone. Seems a little too "light-weight" like it is made of a lot of plastic... I would probably not purchase it if it costs too much more than what I paid for it ... but what do you expect for $40... right?

I can text, email and use the phone. To use web ... I haven't figured it out. It is a little old-school and doesn't work as well as a smart phone.

After three months of daily use - so far so good !
