wonderful tech, obselete battery technology

I love blackberry and wish they would have built their products to last. Even if I replace the battery, the batteries aren't made to last in these anymore.

New form same BOLD

hi all

The 9700 also known as bold bold execelente 2 is a product but still have the same problems of his predecessors as loss of signal, the cut of the call and the lack of original battery capacity.

It is an ideal device for people who want to:
1. talk to a network of friends blackberry no cost. (you need a data plan)
2. Send messages quickly from your inbox.
3. So agile Send photos and short videos of useful information through blakcberry Messeger.
4. Short Sailing Site.

For no good.
1. download applications as easy and agile as it is for the iphone.
2. Applications great for people with capidad of use that has the iphone.
3. Lack of visual space by the size of the display.

In general it is a product for people who work and need neceitan all in your hands this is the choice.

good luck

Crackberry Forreal

Other than the lack of good apps, games and use-based customization; this phone is worth the bucks. It is much faster than the older models, and the battery life is unsurpassable in comparison to the other leading cellphone companies. I enjoy everything about it, from SMS, BBM, email synchronization to picture quality and media capability.
A well rounded phone, this phone is almost identical to, if not the same as the new model Bold 9780. It has a smaller RAM size, less MP camera and supports only up to 4GB memory card- it is still the best Blackberry on the market.
Truly a high recommended phone, cheers.

T-Mobile Bold 9700 Won't Work on AT&T 3G

I purchased this used, unlocked Blackberry Bold 9700 branded by T-Mobile. Overall, the phone works great. Calls are clear and the Wi-Fi is fast. That's where the good things stop.

I called AT&T to see why I wasn't able to get the 3G to display on the screen. AT&T couldn't identify my phone on their network! My research is now telling me that RIM makes the same phone for both AT&T and T-Mobile and that includes all 3G bands, but they have a method of setting the phone to either T-Mobile's band frequency or AT&T's frequency, but not both. Both carriers use different frequencies for their 3G systems.

Here is the bottom line: an unlocked T-Mobile phone will work on AT&T, but ONLY in 2G and NOT 3G! I wish I had known this prior to purchasing this phone, but I had no reason to research this sort of thing as my previous unlocked Nokia E-71 worked on any network. I gave this phone a "GOOD" rating because it does work good, but not great since it won't work on AT&T's 3G.

Blackberry Bold 9700 Review

Quality..

The quality of Blackberry's are top notch. There built well, and built to last. The phone feel's absolutely solid. The screen resolution on the phone is awesome, great for viewing photo's and videos. The chrome bezel add's a nice touch of class to the phone as well as the leather on the battery door.
Quality/Build - 10/10

Operating System
At first it came loaded with BB 5, same old boring firmware that most BB's came with. After some tinkering I loaded BB 6, a refreshed OS. Came packed with new features, and really made the phone better than what it was.
OS - 7.5

Battery

I had to add this as a category, because the battery life on this phone is absolute amazing! I can be on it all day and it'll be at 80% by the end of the day.
Battery - 10/10

Overall
Overall i give this device a 9.1 out of 10. Great device for messaging, emailing, and some media. I wouldnt recommend this device for user's who like to play game's and browse the web. It comes with a new WebKit Browser, but still lack's things. But i do recommend this to user's who prefer QWERTY keypads, and who like tho message, and like a EMAIL client that will push email's instantly. Overall though, this device has one of the best QWERTY keyboards on the market.
Overall 9.1/10

Best battery life for an all-in-one smartphone!

This phone is the best! The battery life is incredible so for anyone who's like me and relies on a phone with great battery life, this is it. It's so great that I only have 2 complaints: it's a bit hard to type on the narrow qwerty area but I assume most other phones have this issue as well so it'll be easy to get used to. The other is that there's so much going on with this phone that it can be a bit overwhelming and busy.Read full review...

Great little smartphone - both in the "smart" and the "phone" areas.

A couple of years ago, I had bought a windows smartphone (Mio A700), but had terrible problems with it (freezes, slow responses - especially with gps - dropped calls etc). So much so, that I switched to a plain-vanilla Samsung for a couple of years. It had no gps or pda capabilities, was no smartphone, but did get the job done.

Then, a company I worked with had a spare Bold 9700 which they gave me for six months, while I worked with them. At first, I took it apprehensively. Soon, however, I started using its email and browser in earnest. Despite the small size of the keys and screen, I found it intuitive and easy to use, and was impressed by the quality of the phone calls. IMHO, too many spartphones forget the "phones" part of the name and are packed with all sorts of bells and whistles, but are dreadful phones when it comes to reception and sound quality. These are two areas in which the 9700 excels. Also, its gps is fast and responsive, its browser works just fine with most websites, it is highly customizable and has quite a few apps you can install. It is also nice that most of the really useful ones are free.

It therefore comes as no surprise that when the company took back its 9700, I started trawling ebay for a new one, which I have now bought. I was pleasantly impressed by the new OS the new phone carries, as it places many useful but unobtrusive shortcuts on the home page.

If I have to mention a complaint, it would concern not the phone itself, but its connection via a PC to the Apps website, which can be quite buggy at times. However, downloading apps from the phone itself is a breeze, and I haven't had any trouble with synchronization either - just with downloading apps via usb.

In short, and as far as I'm concerned, this is a great little smartphone - both in the "smart" and the "phone" areas.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is simply the best phone!

Like the original BlackBerry Bold, the standout design feature on the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 is the screen. Besides the new BlackBerry Storm 2 we just reviewed, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 might have the best screen we've seen on a mobile device. It's bright and colorful, with deep, inky blacks and vibrant, shining highlights. It's also completely wasted on the bland, textual and dated looking BlackBerry interface. There's not a single feature that looks better on a BlackBerry device than on a more polished looking phone, like the Palm Pre or the HTC Hero on Sprint. From the basic menus to the calendar and productivity apps to even the media player and fun stuff, the BlackBerry OS is in need of a serious overhaul, or fickle buyers will start passing on the great features for a phone that looks much more modern.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 gets the new BlackBerry trackpad, which seems to be the future for BlackBerry phones with a real keyboard. We like the trackpad, and it's growing on us with each new model. It's an improvement over the trackball that dominated the middle generation of BlackBerry phones, but we can't help but wonder if navigation on the BlackBerry has gotten any easier since the days of the old thumbwheel. It certainly hasn't gotten faster,as you'll see the first time (of many) you have to approve a long set of terms and conditions, or when you need to scroll through a long Web page.

The keyboard on the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is classic BlackBerry. It's a bit small for our taste, but the slightly angled keys make for a shallow learning curve. We prefer a much wider design, with more dedicated keys for shortcuts and symbols. But BlackBerry keyboards have a strong fan base, and for simple typing, you'll find a quick and easy QWERTY on the BlackBerry Bold 9700.

Call quality on the BlackBerry Bold 9700 was pretty good. We got to test a T-Mobile version of the device, which uses not only T-Mobile's 3G HSDPA network but also UMA calling. So, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 can place calls over Wi-Fi or the regular cell network. That's especially convenient if cell service is questionable in your home,or if the cellular network should happen to go down, as T-Mobile's network did earlier this month. When the cellular and data network went down, T-Mobile's UMA phones were still able to complete their calls.

Battery life on the BlackBerry Bold 9700 was fantastic, as we'd expect from RIM's BlackBerry phones. It wasn't quite as good as Sprint's Tour, but we also kept Wi-Fi turned on for UMA calling, while Sprint's phone doesn't have Wi-Fi capabilities. Even with Wi-Fi turned on,we got almost 6.5 hours of talking time in a single call, which is even better than RIM's estimates. Signal strength on the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700 was okay, usually hovering around 3-4 bars of service.

For keeping up with the day's news, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 provides a decidedly 'mobile' experience, while better smartphones do a better job emulating the desktop. The ailing BlackBerry browser comes with a rudimentary RSS reader, but we'd skip it in favor of something better, like Google Reader. Even Google's own RSS Reader couldn't keep up on the BlackBerry Browser, though, and the Bold 9700 rendered an incomplete, mobilized version of the popular feed reading page. Top news sites like CNN and the New York Times would only default to their mobile versions, which in many cases means you don't get access to all the content you want to read.

The Good, the Bad And the Ugly Of RIM

The Blackberry Bold was a replacement for my Blackberry 8900 Curve which I thought to be a decent phone until it started rebooting on its own. Kinda frustrating when on a call for wanting to use yor phone and walla it's rebooting!
So far the Bold has been a great phone and it's more user friendly with it's touch pad vs the ball on the Curve. I would be hard to find fault with this phone right now as it's been very reliable and has great battery life.
It's unfortunate that RIM chooses to make some of the products that it does.
Sacraficing quality for quanity usually produces something less desirable such as the Pearl Flip. There's some real junk for you.

Phone Review

Blackberry has been a very interactive phone with me and as could not by pass it when the opportunity was offered as a second time to bid on it. I like the phone partly because of its QWERTY keyboard. I just do not like digital keyboard. Moreover,I would say the price was right at that time. I also bought it because of the way it was offered to me. Ebay made sure that, being the next to the winner, I was to be given the chance to bid on should the need arise and i took advantage of that.I think it's a good idea on ebay"s behalf. Ebay, source of my good bargains.Read full review...

Best overall phone I've had for business.

I have always liked the blackberry 9700's - particularly in the winter when touchscreens are very unreliable. The email, text and phone functions all seem better and faster than touch screens.

On the downside the web functionality tends to be very slow and the limitations of screen size (that the Torch try to address, fails in the worst way) will never make it compeditive for that use. For the rest. Highly recommended!Read full review...
