needs improvement

I got this Blackberry Priv on ebay for a great price and it was new. I really love the set up the physical keyboard and the pics are really great that I have taken. Problem is the weight of its heavy and Im always afraid of dropping and breaking it. the other problem battery does not have a long life. Its got a nice design with the android features it works well has great security if you can put up with the weight of it and battery life.Read full review...

Interesting take on smart phones.

Coming from a Sony Ericsson Sk17i i was interested in the keyboard feature off this phone, it also had to have android.
Battery life: After few months of use i use it to browse internet for 30-60 min every day, and run mp3 the rest of these 12-13 hours, lowest battery after that has been 55%, if however i use the phone little over a whole day it will go down to 90% charge. So battery life real life could be 2 days if you don´t use and browse on 4G all the time.
If you watch movies on, which are saved on the SD card, it will be good for 2 movies (so 3-4 hours, maybe slightly more, in viewing time)
The keyboard: I think it´s quite good, touch feature on it is nice sometimes and i like being able to choose between flip-open and closed, second thing about the keyboard, i often watch movies on the phone and extended keyboard is brilliant to hold on to so your hands are not on the screen but you have good grip on the phone.
Complaints: I like most of this phone, but there are two things which i dislike about it, first one is the size, it will not fit nicely into all pockets like on jeans), the other thing is that this phone will heat up during heavy use, it gets quite warm, but i guess these are first world problems.

Not a bad valedictory

...If this is the final blackberry phone. Fast and responsive esp for those of us who love the physical keyboard. Great battery life and big screen. Only drawbacks are somewhat small keys and a camera that is not as good as the Samsung's. And the audio jack at bottom of phone. Should have gone Android earlier!Read full review...

Best Blackberry

I loved the PRIv in all aspects. It doesn't have the best performance, but is acceptable. The battery is good, does a good job. What I didn't like is the charging time, so longer than the others smartphone (I didn't have the quick charger). It looks amazing, no other phones is so exclusive like the Priv. The keyboard is perfect. I sold my Priv only because it was ATT Unlocked, so to update the Android system I MUST be using an ATT active Sim card, I will buy a factory unlocked Priv so I can have all the updates using any sim card.Read full review...

Not bad, just not for me.

This phone felt nice, has a great screen. Keyboard was nice, had a lot of functionality. The camera also seemed very good, on the back. The front was only 2 mp so wasn't great. I felt like the phone wasn't built well, the frame creaked. That bugged me, maybe a case would have helped. I didn't use the phone long, sold it after a few days, got something else.Read full review...

Good Phone, an excellent choice.

I have used a Priv for the last several years and find the phone to an excellent tool. The added factor of not being a lemming choosing the newest phone just because it is new is a benefit. Wish BB would get more Smartphones on the market similar to this one with enhanced feature and longer battery life.Read full review...

This phone is getting dated.

What is said about this phone is that it gets hot when running video. Thats true. Too hot for me. Heat is damaging to electronics so the cooler your phone operates the better. It would be an ok phone if not for the heat problem. The processor just has to work too hard to keep up with today's 2021 work load. I wanted to just turn off most functions so it would not have to work so hard but had no luck. Love the security, encryption keys in the processor
Dtek is great. Get the new blackberry if it ever gets done by onward mobility. I hope they are successful since it is already late. Processor chip shortage is perhaps why the new blackberry is late or on hold for now.

phone getting HOT faster

please DO NOT buy this phone. i had bought in march 2017 and within a months time, i started complaining for the phone getting HOT faster. vendor not helpful as he says its out of vendor's warranty. and yes, the phone which this vendor sells is brand new sealed pack BUT NOT WITH THE MFG"s warrant. when i check with the mfg they confirmed that the phone which i bought is of 2014 or 2015 mfged and out of warranty. So bottom line, its not with the mfg's standard warranty. vendor was also not helpful and was not helping me for this issue and now i am stuck with the phone. anyways, DO NOT BUY, phone battery becoming extremely hot in very less usage time.

Fantastic Device

I am not alone in wanting a physical keyboard and this phone delivers! After reading negative reviews I have to consider that perhaps those users are not the demographic for this phone. If you love a keyboard nothing else is a number 1 priority. The slide is smooth, the keys are easily tapped out for quick typing and swiping (yes, you can swipe on the actual keyboard to save steps with scrolling etc.) This is exactly what I wanted to meet the needs of a keyboard, big screen, Android so I can utilize apps from Google Playstore (i.e. my remote home security system), make a call, get a call, send a text, and check email plus utilize calendar. It is a business function phone. Since I am not big on games, streaming movies, or music, I cannot comment on those functions. I simply don't use them even when my earlier device had all those bells and whistles. Very happy with this phone so far.Read full review...

Android holds it back

Having previously owned a BlackBerry OS 10 phone, this one actually let me down some. But it's not actually the phone's problem, but actually the operating system it uses. The Android OS is a mess. At least compared to BB10.

The best part of BB10 was the HUB. Hands down, it's the best innovative piece of software around for handling any kind of communication. You had facebook, whatsapp, linkedin, all your different e-mail boxes, SMS's, phone update notification, all in this one handy view, which you could filter to only see what you wanted to see. And on top of that, you could read and reply via the HUB and you didn't need to open a 3rd party app to do anything. Now in this Priv, I only get some of those messages and notifications to the HUB. I hope the support for further apps will go up in the future. For those that don't exist there, I still have to open their own respective app to be able to communicate. With facebook this becomes a pain, because AFAIK, the only way to chat there is to install the messaging app of theirs. And that pretty much wants all privileges it can get. Probably would draw blood from me and send it back to Facebook if it could.

The edge feature is as useless as I expected. The Priv has some odd quick view tab you can pull to view from the side, but frankly I've never understood its purpose. Perhaps if I used the calendar more at work, I might have use for it. Secondly the curved edge works to your disadvantage when you are holding the phone. To be able to hold a phone, at I at least have to hold it in my hand, surrounding the edges so not to drop it. This causes the palm of my thumb or my fingertips to actually touch the screen on the sides. This is also recognized as a touch event in apps and games. I mean...that's just poor usability.

The keyboard is a huge help, which is why I bought this in the first place. No more misses when typing. But I only give it the half point it deserves. The keyboard should be placed on the long side in landscape mode. Now they are so close together, that it's impossible to type without constantly looking at them. The touch feature on the buttons was a nice touch. I use it mainly to adjust the exposure when taking photos. To actually use it for letter selection while typing is impossible. When holding down the letter 'a' for example, you get a preview of all the non-english 'a' letters you can select from (äåá etc.), but when beginning to swipe, you have to first move your finger a centimeter or two to actually start moving the selector. But then when it moves, you have to pin point the exact letter within the next centimeter or two, and there are 10 letters to choose from. In practice, I raise my finger up and select it on the touch screen.

To review the camera and performance of the CPU and RAM is pointless. Those view are subjective and I have not much to compare to. They all outperform my older BlackBerry Z10 from a few years back.
