This was the first Tom Waits album I ever heard. That was the beginning of a devotion unrivaled by any. Tom Waits has it all - fantastic gritty voice, the ability to create whole worlds of imagery thru his words,multi-layered sound and cutting edge scores. His cover of 'Somewhere' from 'West Side Story' on this album is heartbreaking, almost hard to take. No other artist does cool like Waits - evidenced by the story of Romeo - 'Romeo Is Bleeding'.Lyrics like 'and I rip my bleeding heart out every nite'- need I say more?
