Platoon Part 2

Oliver Stone first did the movie Platoon which shows us the harsh realities of war, namely Vietnam. Then came Born on the Fourth of July, which showed very little of Vietnam and concentrated more on the aftermath of what happens to a soldier when he comes home a cripple. The question this movie basically asks is: When you give all you can for your country, and you lose everything you have, is it even worth it? Raised as a patriot, Ron Kovic, played by Tom Cruise, goes to war only to fight for people who don't appreciate his sacrifice. No longer able to walk or have children, Ron comes home a patriot. Others around him think he was an idiot for doing his duty and giving everything for his country only to lose his livelihood. He is influenced by those around him, including his girlfriend before he left, to talk out against the Vietnam War. This movie gives perspective to just some of the things Vietnam vets have gone through after they have come home after having their lives torn apart. Oliver Stone fills this movie with his own politics, right or wrong I don't know, but it is an excellent performance by Tom Cruise. A very OKAY movie!! Dont know why it won so many awards

It was okay, at best... I mean it started out really good, then just flat lined. I was just expecting a lot more of a story out of it. I can think of at least 10 other war movies that are ten times better than this one off the top of my head... (Jacobs ladder, saving private ryan, full metal jacket, crimson tide, the deer hunter, thirteen days, etc.) All GREAT movies! Def. check out jacobs ladder! Do not get this movie, trust me you will be glad i told you so. spend your money on any one of these and you will be much better off! thank you for reading this.

Born on the 4th of July

Even though I dont like Tom Cruise personally his role of paralyzed Veteran Ron Kovic is tremendous...I love this movie and it was a real eye opener to see how these poor guys who came back from Vietnam where treated..Like trash..The story of Kovic and his bravery is incredible...Do yourself a favor and watch this one if you like true stories and those that have to do with war.Read full review...
