Flange in Stereo!

My Boss BF-3 Flanger arrived today and I thought I'd write a quick review after testing it out a bit.

Looks and Build: 8/10 Well it's just a standard boss stompbox in a sort of lavender colour which I think looks cool. The build seems sturdy enough. Once again it's a standard boss pedal. It'll do it's job I'm sure.

Features: 9/10 4 control knobs, one of which being a double control and the on/off switch can set tap tempo and can also be used as a momentary hold. The pedal has 4 modes... Standard, Ultra(just a souped up standard really), Momentary, and Gate/Pan. The latter mode being a gate/pan in stereo and a bit like a delay/tremelo when in mono.
Yeah, it's stereo out as well. Which is cool considering it's quite cheap.
The other knobs are the standard things like depth, rate etc.
Seems to be a lot packed in to one pedal.

Sounds: 8/10 It's a flange and that's pretty much what it does but it has those cool little extra things like tap tempo, delay sounds and stereo out which really make it a bit more than what it would otherwise be.

Overall: 8/10 Well I'm sure there are better flangers on the market, but for the price I paid and the amount of features this has I certainly can't complain. If you're looking for a flanger and don't want to blow the bank I suggest having a look at the Boss BF-3 Flanger.

Found exactly whay I was shopping for.

I was looking to buy a Boss brand flanger as a Bass Effects Pedal. This product far exceedes my expectations! The pedal, also is an upgrade to my previously owned Flanger. The BF-3 modle, allows me expanded varriables in my application. Such as; mono or stereo output, as well as guitar frequecy input rather than my standard bass input. Beyond that, this flanger is equpted with a selector mode dial, producing (gate pan and ultra frequency modes in addition to the standard flanged frequency mode). I am a seasoned bass player, more so by experience than proffessional accomplishment, still the same I realy enjoy the result a quality flanger produces. By applying this particular effect, the result(for my taste) is a much broader range of music capability. Whether I'm jammin at home on my regular workout, or playing a live venue with a ten piece ensemble, my Boss BF-3 can be adjusted for warm full bodied tones, to a head turnig funk slapping sound. I truley will not part with this Bass Effect Pedal and if it ever happens to fail, I'd replace it with the same brand and modle.Read full review...

Boss BF-3: Great pedal, great design, very very reliable with power supply.

AH, the Boss BF-3 Flanger! This pedal can do any and all flange effect plus it has a gate/pan mode which is really cool new feature which can literally turn the flanger's sound into somewhat like a Tremolo. With the pedal hooked up in stereo, not only does it sound like a tremolo, it also sounds Stereoscopic and it will pan between speakers. It also features the ability to mimic a chorus pedal as well.

One of the reasons I bought this pedal was because Adam Jones of Tool uses the BF-2 and this one is pretty much the same as the BF-2, Sound-wise but it also has the new mode feature. All in all this pedal is absolutely excellent.

One last thing, this pedal works best with a power supply (Boss PSA-120). It eats batteries something fierce. If you have multiple pedals buy the boss adapter with a daisy chain...it works wonders!

Very good pedal.

Very nice. I owned a Boss BF-2 flanger in the mid-eighty's. The BF-3 is ten times better. I'm a better guitar player now, this pedal is a must for shoegazer's and trip hop, and doom metal players alike.
Very controller friendly, easy to use, and has a multitude of sounds of which are simple to manipulate. I simply patch cord it into an Ibanez DM1000 delay rack processor, and another delay, chorus, and reverb pedals, and flange the hell out of it. It does not matter what kind of electric guitar ya got, it sounds nice. However, amplifiers do matter. One small cabnet with 2 2x10's celestion speakers will do the trick. Yeah a good pedal.

Great price and even better sound

I play more electric acoustic guitar than electric and the Boss Flanger adds a lot of depth to my electric acoustic guitars. I had one years ago but lost it in a fire, I’m glad I found this great deal for an open box unit on EBAY.

Great quality flanger from Boss

This pedal is a great flanger. First thing I noticed is that its loud. Louder than other flangers i've used in the past. The flanger sound is just as good as the MXR's to my ears. I bought this flanger to get the van halen effects that you hear in his earlier records and it does that well. I'm really impressed with the pedal. One thing i noticed though is that there is a delay between when the effect turns on when you step on it. Most boss pedals activate right away when you step on it but there's a split second delay when you turn it on. I use the standard mode most of the time but there is an 'Ultra' mode which is a louder flanger. Then there is Gate/Pan which sounds like a slicer or tremolo effect. The last mode is the momentary which is you hold the pedal down to activate the flanger and take your foot off to turn it off.Read full review...

Boss BF-3

I've owned this pedal for about a month now, so I guess I can write a good review on it. First off, I own 5 flanger pedals. Boss BF-2, Boss Hi-Band, Digitech TurboFlange, Line 6 LiquaFlange and now,the boss BF-3. (I know it seems kind of excessive to have 5 flanger pedals but when you 0wn 31 pedals you get 5 flangers!!)

This pedal is a True Boss pedal so you know it will last a long time and always sound great. ( my jam house burnt to the ground and all of my boss pedals made it out alive). It sounds pretty close the the Boss BF-2 so that's good. It also has some new modes that are pretty sweet too. The best thing about it is that this pedal has stereo outs so it has a 3 dimensional sound to it.

If you want a good sounding flanger that will last you a very long time, then this pedal is for you. Take it from a guy who owns 31 pedals!!

It's more purple than pink

Boss builds consistently reliable, industrial-strength pedals, and the BF-3 is no exception. The body is solid metal, not just some crappy plastic that'll break the second you accidentally get carried away during a hot solo and stomp the whomp out of it.

The BF-3 is more than just a flanger, with capabilities that go beyond many other pedals. If you need a flanger, you can't go wrong with this one.

Heads up!

With the economy the way it is,a good buy is not a steal. It is the act of finding something at a great price.I bought this item for a third of the asking price by retailers. To me that is a win/win situation. The BF-3 is everything that you want if you know what it does or is supposed to do.A must for your pedal collection.Getting it at a fair price makes it all the sweeter!Electronic items are a funny breed, you have to ask questions and find out the history and use of the item or it is a crap
shoot. If you find an item that is being sold by a picker who knows what he or she is talking about, then ask away so you know what you are getting.History of an item makes the difference. If you feel comfortable with the input of info, make the move to buy.You won't be sorry.
