Wish there was more focus on life than death....

I give this movie 4 stars mainly because there are so few LGBT films available. As a lesbian, I see a lot of parallels in Brandon's life to mine. I was excited to see the movie, but the combination of violence and just hating the characters in Brandon's life made me quit the film halfway. I read that Chloe Sevigny, who plays Brandon's girlfriend, sued because of how her character was portrayed and because the movie failed to really get into Brandon's life. It focused on his violent end. Granted, it was made in 1999. Though, today's world is arguably worse for LGBT people. Homophobia is rising, not decreasing. Anyway, true story, I re-listed the DVD, and it sold the same day. Am glad that it seems to be a popular movie.Read full review...

Moving Movie

I was shown bits of this movie in my Women's Studies class and had to go out to buy this movie. The story is so moving that you feel for Brandon and Lana so much. It really shows how bad our society can be, and I think that is important because we can all learn from their mistakes. the story was wonderfully told but I felt that the missed a few key points like the fact that a third person was killed. It is a moving story and should you know a person who is a Brandon type then you should show him this movie. Brandon wanted to be accepted yet he didn't fully accept himself and therefore he stole and committed a few crimes for which he was sought and possibly the reason that the police didn't act upon his report of rape. Great movie that gives insight on what a Transgendered individual goes through. Hilary Swank really took on this role, and made a great performance.
