Ended up with a large paper weight.

I just received a MFC 495cw printer from
Alvin lee. Though the advertising said, it includes manual and some ink.
There was nothing.
The ink tray was empty of cartridges. Nothing installed.
No set-up disk, no SUB Cable and the unit number on the box was for a different unit.
Not the Original box as stated on the advertising.

I will have to purchase ink and a USB cable
and look for an installation download from Brothers before I will be able to see if it works. Read full review...

Simply a Great Multifunction Machine!

I purchased this primarily for the built-in FAX capability, but there are issues with our VOIP phone system that sometimes makes it difficult to operate correctly in the receive mode (even in the "Basic" setting that is designed for VOIP). It transmits a document nicely, however. This is a VOIP issue, not related to this, or any, FAX machine. The document feeder works great!
Other than than that, the machine works wonderfully, including the WiFi connection to our house LAN. I haven't used it to print photos yet, so I can't comment on that feature.

I'd certainly purchase one again and I recommend it to others. Brother's tech support was Outstanding for a printhead problem I had!Read full review...

Bamm! It works!

I was very happy to see the replacement part work so well, as soon as I plugged it in. It is an easy interface to use and menu can be navigated easy as well.

Uses ink to "clean itself" and ink far too expensive.

Ink is FAR too expensive. I use the printer about once a week and print in only black and white, yet somehow have to spend 60 dollars every 3 months on new colored ink. When I called and asked the technician, he said the ink was being used to "clean itself" whenever it turns on and off. I plan on selling my printer soon because of the cost of ink.Read full review...

Excellent quality printer for the price but if you're going to be doing much photo printing, I'd recommend an HP for the best black contrast. The ink is incredibly cheap for this printer though so for everyday printing, you can't beat it.Read full review...
