Set up issue - wouldn't work with USB cable - however works perfectly with wireless connection

I initially did everything: downloaded the Brother complete utilities package, installed, kept getting either of two error messages: either "printer error" or USB not recognized.

If this happens to you - don't give up on this printer. You simply need to go to MENU, then follow the steps for connecting wirelessly to your network. You need to know your precise network name and password (case sensitive).

Having done this, I am now very happy with this printer. I can print from my desktop, and, via my network, from my laptop and from my smartphone.

Good printer but not reliable with faxing or scanning functions.

I was optimistic about this purchase since I have had pretty good experience with Brother printers, and hoped this would work well as a pre-owned less expensive purchase. It was billed as "lightly used" and fully tested. The printing functions are solid, with very good print quality. and a long time between ink cartridge changes. The major downfall of this printer is the unreliable feeding mechanism which is not currently allowing me to fax or scan documents. I am not sure if this is easily fixable but I would assume it is not. Also the display light has somehow lost brightness and is barely legible. Final criticism would include the fact that this is a bulky, not very attractive machine which I would rather not look at every day in my office. The ink-jet printers seem to be much more compact and streamlined.
So in summary, this is a good printer for high volume usage which has good printing capabilities and long cartridge life. However, based on the faulty feeding mechanism, limited warranty, and overall appearance and size of this printer I would not buy it again. I hope this was helpful.Read full review...

Awsome machine! Great value. Has all the features I need in my HO.

I bought a refurbished 7860 for my home office. As both my fax and laser printer died within 2 weeks of each other, I wanted a unit that could do both. Throw in the scanner and I then removed the old flatbed unit from my desk. The fax and laser units were also Brother machines approaching 10 years of service. I jumped at the offer for this unit. Has all the features that I need. This purchase also included an undated version of my scanner program. Another bonus. There are faster units on the market, but this has all the speed I need. Great features

This is the 'top of the line' of this series of Brothers printers. It duplexes, has lighted message screen, and seems to be quieter than the one I replaced.

Brother offers fine products and I am happy with this one.

The product is what I thought it would be. It is a low end printer but has what I need for my business. The speed of the printer is fine but the speed of obtaining it was awful. I would not recommend the dealer of this product who, when I wrote my first review, tried to bribe me to change it.
