Brother MFC-J480DW Inkjet All-in-One Printer

For the price, great printer, just a bit slow

The print quality is amazing! Yeah, you have to wait longer for it to print, but unless you can afford a much more expensive printer, that's what happens. The generic ink cartridges are unbelievably low priced and I've purchased many without any problems so far. I have a friend who also has the same model of printer, and we went in together on a 24 pack of black and all colors, and got them for a hair under $1 each! So I'm very happy with the affordability of this printer--both initially and for the cost of each page of print! And my only issue is the printing speed. Since my business isn't one that requires quickly printed pages, this isn't a hassle for me at all. I own & run a nonprofit organization, so saving money is always helpful.Read full review

Not fully functional, Scanner and B/W letters ok, color and envelopes not working as they should. Gave it away.

I was pleasantly surprised when the printer came with ink installed, but when it came on it didn't print anything. Then it began and kept asking me to replace this and that color ink. I did that with the ink I had just purchased from Brother since I didn't expect it have any. After replacing them all, and running multiple test pages and cleanings, I was finally able to to get a black and white printout. I needed this printer to print out some envelopes. It printed, but they were skewed. I had hoped since this was the same model I'd been using without too many problems for years before it died, this would keep things simple. I ran out of time and and ordered a newer model which after an hour or two of updates, installations, etc. is doing what I need. I gave the unit to some else who has time and patience for this sort of thing. Who knows, he may get it fully operational.Read full review

Amazing quality prints, super ink efficiency.

I am in love with this printer, it prints rather slow, but the quality is great. It does absolutely everything I could want in a printer... It even scans straight to a PDF wirelessly. I mostly use this printer for photo and coupon printing, both of which it excels at. Borderless printing works great on this printer! I bought this printer to go with my refillable ink cartridges and I have had NO issues with refillable cartridges like I did with both my Canon and Epson printers. Brother printers are the way to go

Buying an open box item can be less than perfect, but you know that from the get go.
This printer leaked the installed ink all over, didn’t come with a quick start guide and the cd was defective and wouldn’t play.
Why the 4 stars you ask?

I found the installation instructions for wireless setup online. The ink, except for a spot in the carpet, finally is gone.

The printer itself is very good. Duplexing is automatic, separate color cartridges is a no brainer, and I love that it’s an air printer. The other printer in the house is wireless but I can only print to it from my computer. This one will take direction from my phone, Ipad etc.

Very Reliable Printer - Best Value. Recommend buying it.

I have two of these. My first one for over 18 months. So much so that I bought a second. It's reliable, I've never had a jam. Fax works perfectly. I use the scan a lot and it's excellent. Great quality printing. It may cost a little bit more up front but the genuine OEM cartridges are reasonably priced and that's where you'll save money. The setup is super simple. Drivers are easy to find and it's easy to set up locally of via network. I don't so reviews so when I do it's because I'm 100% satisfied

My only gripe is the settings menu is not as simple as it should be but this is not a deal breaker Everything else is simple and smooth.Read full review

Good quality printing but hard to keep the printing heads clean

This is my third Brother printer and the black ink printing is what fails after a few years. Cleaning doesn't fix it. Also the printer is very picky about installing the cartridges slow enough so they get recognized by the software. The software could be more robust.Read full review
