The Best Modern Missionary Account

In my opinion, Bruchko is one of the best missionary stories ever written. Bruce is now in his late 60’s and still lives among the Motolone people, most of whom have become dedicated Christians. Over the years they've sent missionaries to other South American tribes, and these indigenous people have witnessed firsthand the life-transforming and culture changing power of the Gospel. I heard Bruce speak in the late 1970’s and was impressed by his humble, simple presentation. By human standards Bruce Olson is not an outstanding human being. But his determination to follow Jesus at any cost sets him apart in the annals of heaven. If God can use ordinary Bruce Olson to evangelize a nation, then God can use ordinary me! By following his example of unswerving obedience, Jesus will strategically use your life to reach others, and lay up treasure in heaven that can never fade away or be corrupted. (1 Peter 1:4) It is my prayer that this book plants a seed of fire in your heart that will propel you forward to fulfill Jesus’ call upon your life.Read full review...

Thrilling story of God's work in Stone Age tribes

I have read the book once before, and this was to replace the copy, which I borrowed from a friend and had become tattered. I started reading in the afternoon and could not set the book down until I had finished it late that night almost into the morning. It is truly a gripping story retold by Bruce olson in exciting, cliffhanging language that won't let you put it down. There is never a dull moment, Whether he's explaining the surrounding hostile environment or interacting with a never before breached tribal group in a subtropical forest where almost anything can happen. I am a Christian, and I believe this book will encourage a Christian's walk to trust wholly in the Lord and may evangelize to those with wandering souls, who may not know of God's power and Love. I give this book a 5/5, and I hope whoever reads it understands more of God's plan in their life or comes to acknowledge the significance of prayer and trusting in the Lord, not themselves. I would recommend this book to anyone.Read full review...

Challenging!

I'm afraid that some Christians would desire to measure up to Bruce Olson. We do not measure up to him in order to gain God's approval. Following Jesus stems from our love for Him and thankfulness for His grace! However, this book challenges us in our comfortable lives. The servant is not greater than the master and when we follow the master we WILL suffer the same things that He suffered. This was a Biblical promise to us! If we do not suffer persecution then something is amiss.

This is not to say that Christians ought to pursue suffering! But, like Bruce, we should take the gospel TO the world instead of hoping that the world will come to our church invitations to hear the gospel. I am challenged to step beyond the church pew in serving Him.

WHAT IF I give all I have? What will that gift do? Aye, that gift could change the world, if not the world for one or two. Jesus will use the available servant. Praise God for Bruce and may we follow in Jesus' footsteps!

In short, this is the best testimony I have read in a long time; thanks to a heart that was simply willing to obey the great commission.

Bruchko

This is a true story of a man who had a heart to reach people with the gospel message. The trials and dangers he experienced as well as the perseverence he endured to see this accomplished. One of those "can't put the book down" stories that leaves a impact on the reader. We have given many of these books for others to read as well. A must read.Read full review...

Outstanding!!!

One of the best books we have read. Could not put it down!! Highly recommend!! Very compelling!! We loved the way in which Bruce presented the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Indians without changing their culture. He is a thoughtful caring man that God used in a mighty way!!Read full review...

Awesome book! Great for the whole family.

This book is an amazing testimony of a young man with childlike faith who really believed that if he would do what he believed God was telling him to do then God would take care of the details. I was amazed by Bruce Olson's faith and, unfortunately, also by God's faithfulness to completely be there so he didn't die. Bruce suffers many things and comes close to death more than once, but God is always there with provision just at the right moment. Great story for the whole family.Read full review...

Best account of a true Christian witness that embraced a culture instead of destroying it

The content alone of a true and contemporary account of God's activity between Himself and the Motilone Indians is captivating as well as miraculous. Bruce Olson's patient, faithful relationship with the Motilones is one of the best models of a Christian missionary you will ever find in print.Read full review...
