Almost perfect but still a ton of fun

The Xbox version is in contention for one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played second only to the PS2 version for its better features and less annoying sounds. The gameplay has no real story but it is just straight up fun and challenging here and there.
If you want a game that just puts a smile on your face every time as you take your aggression out on random cars on the road then this is the one for you. One does not simply go wrong with choosing Burnout and it really is a shame that there isn't a sequel to Revenge. (Paradise isn't a sequel!)

The last truly good Burnout game

Hasn't been topped in terms of basic functionality, features, and fun. Subsequent titles from EA have prioritized online features and microtransactions. Presentation is stable at 60 frames per second. The music is customizable, though the licensed music on offer is poor. The sound effect and surround sound more than make up for the poor soundtrack.Read full review...

Great game though single player replay value stinks

There are things I love and things I hate about Burnout Revenge. I'm not heavily into multiplayer, so I won't bother going there. I bought this game because I had the original XBox version of it, and MS and their loving attitude towards bacwards compatibility neglected to make this work on the 360. I probably would have bought this anyway, as BR is an incredibly fun game... once you figure out how to navigate the horrific single player system. Burnout Revenge takes a HUGE step backwards for the single player aspect of the game. MASSIVE. Words cannot express how deeply and truly awful the world tour navigation system is. Worse still, the single event mode, the greatest aspect of the single player experience in Burnout 3, is GONE. Its because of this and this reason alone that I can't really recommend this over Burnout 3. I have to say it looks MUCH better on the 360. Still everything that was broken about the original is still broken here.Read full review...

Burnout: Revenge

I have to admit that I'm excited to have Burnout as part of my 360 library. However, it's a little disappointing because of the fact it isn't a real next-gen game. The developers did a great job of porting the game to the 360, but still... if it weren't for the lack of real next-gen games, I wouldn't have bought it. As it is, I am having a ton of fun playing it right now, and that's what counts I guess. This is by far the best version of Burnout ever assembled, and I'd gladly take it over Full Auto any day.

The online mode is the best one I've ever played as it keeps track of your "rivals." It's a great idea and it will bring actual community to online play. The set up pits you against the same people more often... and that's a great way to build a better friends list.

Great Game

I must admit, I used to own this game before I sold my Xbox360 over 2 years ago.
You can not find a game of similar genre. So, I bought another used Xbox360 and this game again.
So much fun

awesome cx

For those of you who--like me--are still coming off of Burnout 3, I'm going to breakdown the major differences in these two games:

Perhaps the most welcome addition to BR is that you can actually smash into cars FROM BEHIND without crashing yourself! There is a catch to this, though, head-on traffic, sideway's traffic, and hitting an oversized vehicle from behind will still total your car.

On the down side, I think that this feature decreases the challenge aspect by quite a bit. In BO3, if you hit a car, you were done for, so you were either a stellar driver with super-sharp reflexes, or not.

Remember how tired you got in BO3 with the Elimator laps--doing FIVE of them consecutively to win the race? BR has improved the Eliminator races by having instead five 30 second periods. Whoever is in last place at the end of these periods is eliminated. Makes the event much quicker and less tedious.

Racing events have stayed the same, for the most part, but now there are shortcuts. You can win the race without shortcuts, but you're more likely to win if you use them. Note: Your CPU players ALSO use the shortcuts, so watch out!

BO3 had a Face Off event. BR has no Face Off event, but you still win cars like crazy after doing races or outstanding feats.

But BO3 had no Traffic Attack Event like BR does. In this event you intentionally run into traffic--preferably traffic that is going the same way as you, unless you like crashing.

Burning Laps/Preview Laps are pretty much the same in both games, but of course BR has the shortcuts. I have a small complaint with the Burning Laps in BR: Getting a medal in this even is either too easy or too hard. Example: On one track I boosted 90%--if not 100%--of the whole track--without crashing-- and didn't get a gold medal! You almost HAVE TO use the shortcuts to get gold in these events. BUT, on the opposite hand, if you drive, slow as hell, casually, like I did once (in a Preview Lap), with no intention of winning, I still somehow got a Bronze medal.

Ah yes--CRASH MODE. This is where BO3 and BR REALLY differ and this is also where I have my chief--but few complaints--with the game. In BO3, you controlled how quick of a "takeoff" you wanted once the crash event started. If you wanted boost, just bump into the boost icon. Bump into the other icons to multiply your score, etc.

But, in BR, it is much different. You still control how fast you "takeoff", at the beginning of the event, but now you have a bar and by pressing a button you make a meter shoot up. The higher the meter is on the bar, the faster you start. No big deal, a bit more Luck, than Skill, for my taste, but where the BIG PROBLEM is, is that no matter how slow or fast you start, no matter how light or heavy your vehicle is, you ALWAYS swerve uncontrollably to the right or left about two times before you can straighten out! You can not imagine how aggravating this is and how many times you will prematurely crash into guardrails, lightpoles, or other objects.

However, once you get past this annoying part, the crash event is pretty much the same, but without the bonus icons, because you will be doing so much damage anyway you won't need 4x multipliers.

I also sorely miss the presence of a garage to see at a glance all the cars I've won.

But the Carl's Jr. Gut truck is definitely cool to smash into things!

Despite my few complaints, BR is a GREAT game, with LOTS of replay value.

Great Game!!

This is so far my favorite Xbox360 game. Super fun, easy driving, no crazy car simulation to get used to. Game packs lots of action and styles to play which makes its re-playability perfect! Get tired of racing and bumping rivals racers playing against the computer, then do a massive car pile up crash, race time, score style points or even head to head with two controllers (and even that has like 5 different play types.)
I am still playing; blowing up as many unlucky cars and rivals that get into my way. Great stress relief, just don't jump on the road after driving this right away.
Graphics looks great btw well worth HD IMHO.
Enjoy!:

BURNOUT REVENGE- BETTER THAN PARADISE!!!

This is really two reviews in one. One for Burnout Revenge and then the other to explain how I came to this conclusion.

I just have to say that revenge is the best arcade racer on the 360 and that's saying a lot with everyone getting Burnout Paradise. I would give Burnout an 8.5 out of 10 but only because it's looking dated but gameplay i give a 10. So if you are thinking about getting Burnout Paradise, don't, just go ahead and get Burnout Revenge instead. You'll thank me for it. It's cheap and still a lot of people play it online. Plus, no BROKEN NAV. SYSTEM TO WORRY ABOUT.

Okay, so i got the new Burnout Paradise and played it for about 2 days. It was so beautiful (the cars especially, truly next-gen) but I just couldn't get into it. I mean the navigation system truly destroyed a great game franchise plus they took out crash mode. WHAT A SHAME! IT HAD SOOO MUCH POTENTIAL! Just a frew things ruined it due to the developers overthinking things. KEEP IT SIMPLE NEXT TIME. Enough of this using a blinker and vague go north or south directions in an open world.

SO MY POINT IS: I SOLD PARADISE AND RE-PURCHASED BURNOUT REVENGE. IT IS MUCH BETTER, ESPECIALLY AFTER PLAYING THE HARD TO FORGIVE PARADISE.
I GUESS I'll HAVE TO WAIT FOR MIDNIGHT CLUB 3 FOR OPEN RACING
