great tool
I was beginning to think my house did not have studs. I used the finder I had, but could not find anything in the walls except where recpts were. I purchased another electronic finder, same results. I saw this on line and decided to try it. It works great. The finder stays on the stud with the magnet, it's powerful enough to hang on the stud without holding. I have used the magnetic stud finder many times now from hanging pictures too TVs on the wall and recommended to several friends.

Simple and effective
It's a good little tool with 2 strong magnets, one on each end. For about $10, its pretty effective and well worth the money in my opinion. With my plaster (thicker) walls, it doesn't support itself on the wall, but as you gently drag it across the wall, you can feel it pull towards nails.
So far, I've primarily used it to try to find studs in the floor, and it effectively pulls to most nails when you gently drag it accross the floor. [Unfortunately the nails were more frequent than possible stud spacing in each direction, so I couldn't effecrively find the studs, but it did as it should and found the nails.]Read full review...

Great discovery
Great discovery is how I think. When this find a drywall nail or screw, it stops you from moving it due to its strong magnets, like it is screaming Bingo! Without having to think about batteries, or all sorts of false locations as seems to happen more frequently than not with the electronic stud finders. CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud Finder
This is the best magnetic stud finder that I know of and use on the market. Who needs to have a larger battery operating unit that is more prone to get broken and stop working in their tool bag. People often think it takes to long to find a stud with a magnet or need to know where the edges of them are but that isn't so with this unit. It has strong magnets and holds itself very well to the walls and ceilings. Why didn't I know about these years ago?
I've used a sonic stud-finder for a long time, and it's just not reliable with older walls or repaired/modified ones. This little guy tells you where the nails are! Perfect. you mark a few, you know exactly where the studs are. It's a powerful magnet too, so you can't get it near ANYTHING electronic or like a disk drive, or a USB stick, etc. I put it down on a metal filing cabinet and had to struggle to get it unstuck; I've put it in a canvas mini-flashlight case, it lessens the magnetics. Dependable and small enough to always carry on the tool belt
I own and have used many of the electornic stud finders and they are great and work well. But I have one of these so I can always have a stud finder handy on the tool belt. It always works to quickly find the approximate center of a stud.
