A classic crash

My son who bought this game actually started playing Crash when he was an infant
So being able to find the game with the manual was what he wanted. Here's a college kid now...lol Crash is an addictive character, once you start him a you can't stop. This game is in great condition. And it arrived in great time.Read full review...

Be careful to be PAL SYSTEM for Europe.

I tried to make sure that I bought a fantastic game. The graphics and the sound are okay but it's a game for the USA and not for Europe (Pal). I've got 2 TVs. In the first it's ok but in the second I can't play. It's my fault because I didn't know about PAL SYSTEM.Read full review...

Balance and superb design keep this racing game fresh!

CTR: Crash Team Racing is known as the last Crash Bandicoot game to be developed by Naughty Dog, the original developers of the Crash Bandicoot series of video games. CTR may be a "Mario Kart clone," but it does a good job at what it does.

There are many different tracks to race on in this game. The locations vary from beaches, underwater tunnels, sewers, castles, the arctic, the sky, outer space, etc. The wide selection of tracks keeps the game interesting, as each one is well designed. Some tracks even have hidden shortcuts to find.

As this game was inspired by Mario Kart, there are powerups scattered around the tracks. The racer slams through a crate and an item is randomly selected for him or her. The powerups range from seeker missiles, cannon balls, speed boosts, shields, traps, etc. The powerup that a racer receives is determined by what place he or she is currently in during the race. For example, if one is in 1st place, then that player will receive a trap to set for the racers behind him or her. I've found that this system keeps the game balanced and fair.

The game also incorparates a wide selection of characters to play as. Each character has origins from a previous Crash Bandicoot game, so fans will be familiar with each one. Each character also has unique traits for racing. Some characters excell at speed but fail at handling turns well; while some are well balanced at speed and handling, but do not excell at anything in particular. Again, this creates fairness in the game's difficulty levels. There are also hidden characters to unlock, most of which are bosses from the other Crash Bandicoot games.

This racing game does something that most of the other games in the genre do not do; it features a story mode. Players can choose to play though an adventure to save the world from a competitve driving-obssessed space alien. The Adventure has players racing to collect 1st place trophies. Once enough trophies are collected, they get the opportunity to race against a "boss" character in order to advance to the next chapter of the story. The final race against Nitrous Oxide, the alien, is a tough one; but it provides a very satisfying ending. Throughout the adventure, there are other items (besides trophies) to win. This extends the replay value of this mode as it caters to completionists.

What racing game would be complete without a multiplayer mode? The multiplayer is fun in this game. The game can support up to 4 human players at once. This makes it great for parties and hang-outs with friends. Players will race against their friends and the computer. A Battle mode is also included. That mode was most likely inspired by the Twisted Metal series of games, as it has players fighting other players using the previously mentioned powerups from the races as weapons.

Overall, CTR: Crash Team Racing does what it does extremely well. It does things that most other games of its genre don't do, and it manages to stay fresh over the years. The racing feels enjoyable, and it never seems to get boring because the competition is constant. It's a great game to play among friends.

One of the best PlayStation games ever!

Out of all the PlayStation games I've played, this is one of the best and I don't say it lightly. Let me explain. When I first got this game way back when it was first released, I was initially a bit sceptical. How could a furry cartoon character be much fun? Isn't for little kids? Nope, I was really wrong! This is one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played, and I still enjoy this game since it has a lot in it to appeal to everyone.

Levels: 5/5
The "Warped" in the title refers to how you get to a level -- you are "warped" to a period in history. No boring stuff here -- just dinosaurs chasing you in ancient times levels, mummies to get you in the Egyptian levels, dragons waiting to trip you up on the Great Wall of China, wizards wanting to zap you in medieval levels, robots willing to blast you in future time levels, pirate ships lobbing cannon balls at you in the sea levels, and much more. There are quite a few places to visit and they are all a lot of fun! And you're not limited to just running or jumping, you also get to use several vehicles like an airplane to shoot down blimps and a car for a few race levels. After you complete five levels, you unlock a boss level, If you defeat the boss, you get five new levels to play and a special power. The best special power is the bazooka gun which makes clearing levels of enemies and hazards a breeze. Another really helpful power is Speed Shoes which lets you run much more quickly than normal. It really helps in the levels when something is chasing you and for beating the Time Trial modes (see more below).

Replay value: 5/5
The games screams replay value! Well, not really, but it does have a ton of playability in it after you have fulfilled the basic quest of collecting all 25 crystals in each level. You can replay each level in Time Trial mode where you have to race through the level in a certain amount of time. If you beat the clock, you will obtain a Relic which is used to open up a hidden level and for every five relics you collect, you can open a new hidden level. Also, you can go on missions for specially colored gems which will open up new portions of previous levels. In addition, there are two secret levels in the game. And if that's not enough, there are two endings depending on if you fully obtain every item in the game or not. The first ending is shown after you get all 25 crystals and beat the final boss. If you replay the game and go back and get everything you missed and defeat the final boss again, you can view the secret ending which is really funny!

Graphics: 5/5
Remember kiddies, this game was for the original PlayStation and not the souped up PlayStation 2. ;) However, it featured the best graphics of the original PS. The game has lots of great scenery, characters, and suffers from no hiccups or bugs which makes playing it wonderful. Tip: If you own a PlayStation 2, you can set the texture mapping in the PlayStation driver settings page to Smooth and it will make the game look much better!

Music: 5/5
Too bad they didn't release the soundtrack for this game! It has lots of great, quirky tracks for each level that perfectly capture the mood of the level from Egyptian sounding music of the Sphynx levels to techno for the future levels. It's fun just to listen to the soundtrack by itself.

Even though I've had this game for years, I still enjoy playing it and it is a game the whole family will enjoy playing! Since I can't give it a 6/5, a 5/5 will have to suffice.

Best Kart Racer for a PSX

Looking for a great kart racing game for PSX? Then check out Crash Team Racing. Sony has used their Crash Bandicoot character to make their own version of Mario Kart. Since there are many kart racing games available for a PSX, (Looney Tunes, South Park, Smurfs, among others) I was torn on which one to purchase.

After much research I've found that CTR was the best option. It has the best combination of graphics, sound, and game play. As compared with other games, the characters' individual sound effects don't start to annoy you after two minutes of play. The tracks are well laid out, and entertaining. Play is great when in four player mode (like any other racing game). The adventure mode can keep you busy when you are playing by yourself.

Overall the game took the best elements of Mario Kart and put it in a Crash Bandicoot format with a few more features for good measure.

From 1999 to 2013, CTR provides you with a fun yet classic kart racing exp.

This game is the very first Playstation game I played when I was a child. It was my favorite game back then & it still remains one of my most beloved games of all time. This classic kart racing game created by Naughty Dog is so fun and addictive. If you're an expert at kart racing games, you could probably play through it's Adventure mode in about a day's time, but it's still tons of fun & it's challenges & classic storyline keeps making to come back for more. Also, if you've completed the Adventure mode, you can challenge your friends to a battle in Vs. Mode or to a race in a free racing mode. Needless to say you can get years of entertainment from this game. I first played this game back in 1999 and it's still fun to this day, June 16th, 2013, but then again that goes for almost all of the Crash Bandicoot titles.Read full review...
