Canon EOS 50D - A top quality DSLR at a price you can afford

I've now bought 2 of these cameras off ebay. They were both in great condition and less than half the new price. I already owned an EOS 40D so I knew the 50D would feel almost identical. The first thing that occurred to me was that the resolution of 15 megapixels would challenge my existing budget lenses. After buying the first 50D, I bought a 24-105L, also off ebay at a great price. This is a great combination, you can't go wrong with Canon L glass. The 50D needs a quality lens to get the best out of it. I still own my first Canon DSLR, a 450D which I bought with the 18-55 IS kit lens. I was still using this lens for wider angle shots but realised I was missing the quality. I hate changing lenses on a DSLR. Yes, I know it sounds mad but it solves the problem of dust getting inside. I bought the second 50D with the idea of pairing it with a 17-40 L. I bought this off ebay too. Maybe I've been lucky with my purchases but all the Canon equipment I've bought on ebay has been first class. Both these lenses balance well on a 50D and the picture quality is excellent. I'm still learning but I enjoy using these cameras so much, I'm always looking for opportunities to take pictures with them. If you read the professional reviews of the 50D, you'll find they are very mixed. When it came out it was up against the new Nikon D300, which looks to be a better buy on paper. Personally, I prefer how a Canon feels in my hands and I've got used to them now. Now, you can buy a first class example of a 50D at a very reasonable price. It was the last of that body type and Canon has improved this series over the years so this would be the one to get. It is an excellent base for a top quality lens. If you want to get the best out of a Canon L lens you need a camera that can take advantage of it. The 15 megapixel sensor and the other technical improvements over the 40D do make a difference. That said, I'm still happy with my 40D which is attached to a 55-250 IS lens for long range shots. I'm not planning to get rid of it but if I'm walking around taking pictures I invariably use one of the two 50D's. The 17-40 for town and city shots and the 24-105 for parks and rural locations. If you think about it, the lens is the most important factor in getting top quality pictures. The camera is just a highly sophisticated digital processor. Surprised how capable a camera this is. a bargain buy!

I bought a 50D as an extra or spare camera. I am just a very enthusiastic amateur but I am told I take nice pics.
I wanted it in case my EOS 7D went wrong in the middle of a wedding or some other occasion that matters to someone.
To be honest I wasn't expecting it to be quite so good. I do think that there is a lot of model snobbery in our hobby and sometimes people forget that it is about the captured images and not how posh your camera is. A nice camera does not make a great photographer. That said this model does help the amateur along on their way with a host of helpful features and pre sets that all work very well.
As always the most important features are well situated and easy to find and learn. The auto focus is very good as is the image capture quality and the screen resolution. The camera is well weighted and nicely balanced. The battery lasts very well and the built in flash is a cracker.
I have been playing with it all this morning and I am quite fond of it. I would highly recommend this camera not only as a second shoot but as a very capable and good value tool for enthusiasts and hobbiests of all standards. Most of us don't make a full time living from our pictures so drop the snobbery and give the Canon EOS 50D a try. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Even better with the genuine Canon battery grip.

This is how you do it.

This Camera Is easy to use after a little time with the handbook, or the excellent Magic Lantern video tutorial. It is the first step to professional quality photography.

A little larger than a point and shoot digi camera, but sits comfortably in small hands and gives easy access to all function buttons for making changes on the fly. Shoot close up's, then Landscape, then Portrait, then tele zoom, then back to anything you like. All controls for fast exposure settings changes are just a button push or two.

If you are serious about improving your photography, get one now.

canon 50 d camera

a very profitient piece of kit I have no hesitation in recomending anybody to purchase one although it is capable of being used as aprofesional camera dont let that put amatures off it can be used in the fully automatic setting whereby the focusing and apeture and speed are set for you all you have to do is turn the camera on and set the selection dial to green and then concentrate on taking wonderful pictures anyone can use it even my seven year old grandson!Read full review...

I have been using it for last couple of weeks and all I can say is that's a great camera, it has good frame rate, great image quality, it's easy to use and has loads of features. recommend

Beauty of a camera.

Having upgraded from a 500d this camera is the perfect way to get into the serious camera ranges. It makes changing settings and using the advanced modes that much quicker and simpler. Not to mention the extra few frames per second you get. People get hung up on getting a second hand camera in perfect condition. Very good product and happy with it,

This camera was purchased by my son-in-law, so don't know very much about it. I do know that he is very pleased and will use it to take photographs for a portfolio for his work , together with taking photographs of wildlife which he loves.

He did have trouble finding the correct memory card, but has now done so, so all in all I think heis extremely happy with his purchase.Read full review...

CANON 50D

Будучи владельцем CANON 550D имел неосторожность взять в руки CANON 40D, фотоаппарат товарища, 550 как то резко стал неудобным. Увидел на витрине в магазине CANON 50D и влюбился заочно, но останавливала цена! Прошло 4 года, аппарат устарел и появился на вторичном рынке по доступной цене. Настал мой час! Пересмотрел кучу объявлений на российских сайтах, на этом, и зацепился за объявление этого продавца, причём не с первого раза, а заходил, читал, сравнивал, и всё таки вернулся сюда. Оформил покупку. Продавец отправил товар практически сразу после подтверждения оплаты. Такое ощущение, что фотоаппарат уже был упакован, а курьер стоял за дверью! Свой CANON 50D получил в лучшем виде, упакован был в родную коробку и вложен в большую коробку с надутыми полиэтиленовыми пакетами. На корпусе фотоаппарата есть еле заметные потёртости на углах и в местах крепления ремня, что указано в объявлении и не стало неожиданностью. Трек отслеживался сначала на английском почтовом сайте, затем посылку передали в российскую курьерскую службу, где трек также отслеживался. Курьер доставил и передал посылку с рук на руки. CF card, как и было обещано, была в аппарате, 32 MB, и на неё помещается всего пара фотографий в большом разрешении (это тоже было отмечено в объявлении). Аккумулятор был заряжен и я сразу сделал несколько снимков, убедился что фотоаппарат исправно работает. Объектив CANON 35-80 USM, приложен в качестве бонуса, с виду как новый, работает изумительно! Жалко что он дублирует фокусные расстояния CANON 28-105,который уже есть. Шейный ремень положили абсолютно новый! В комплект поставки входило всё что написано в объявлении. Покупкой очень доволен, на данный момент сбылась моя мечта. Уверен,что этот фотоаппарат последний из динозавров ещё послужит мне верой и правдой. А дальше, не схватиться бы за CANON 5D Mark 4 случайно.Read full review...

Really good camera, if you are looking to upgrade, look no further.

Excellent camera & brilliant results. I have 30D, 40D and now 50D. I needed another body for one of the lenses and I chose to upgrade. Never regretted the decision. Canon do make the best SLRs in the market.
