Excellent extender of range for a Canon 70-200 L f2.8 ii. Love it!

I use this on a Canon 70-200 F2.8 L II. It makes the f2.8 aperture setting become an aperture of f5.6 which is perfect for most situations for me anyway. I do not see any degradation of sharpness. I use it for nature and wildlife mostly. Looked at buying a 100-400 lens but decided to try this first to get the 400mm reach, works perfectly, and AF is just fine, perfectly tuned for wildlife, even catching eagles in flight. I use this with a Canon 5Ds camera, and have no issues at all. I crop heavily and love the results.

It fits beautifully, no wiggle or loose feeling at all. Comes off and on lens and camera smoothly.

My understanding is that this version iii is really better than the I or II versions, it was built from the ground up to match the zoom L lens perfectly. I don't use this with other lenses, so not sure how a prime L lens would work with the extender.

Hand holding the 5Ds with the extender and 70-200 f2.8 L is not difficult, balances well and I have no problem hand holding the setup.

It is a perfect flexible option for my 70-200 L to get me that 400mm reach and it is money well spend!

Canon 2x Teleconverter

This TC works only with a select group of Canon lenses, including the Canon 70-200 f/4 L and 100-400 L. Works well with no noticeable degradation of image quality. However, the laws of optics dictate that an F/4 lens becomes an F/8, or the 100-400 becomes an f/11. The camera body’s autofocus will be affected. On a 7D mark 2 may only have the center AF point functional, or have to use Live View with the camera on a tripod. On an R mount camera, you should have pretty much full AF function.Read full review...

Extrenders are not as sharp as a prome lens but it's to being sharp enough. Not suitable for pro photograhy.

The product makes the camera very heavy however thr yhe image is sharp but not critically so.

Just what I needed

I have an older body (5d mkii) so the autofocus is not compatible. But everything else works perfect.

If you need more reach, a teleconverter is a relatively inexpensive way to get it.

Although any teleconverter will, to some extent, have an adverse effect on sharpness, Canon's products, properly maintained, are if high quality.

Closing the distance is important

As a nature photographer, closing the distance on a bird or mammal is very important to me. I am very happy with this item.
