Fast and Sharp, Great Wide Angle Lens

A fantastic lens. Focus response is fast and images are tack sharp. Love the bokeh. Highly recommend this lens for wide angle use. I also have the Sigma 24 mm f/1.4 Art lens, which is also great. Canon's lens has a warmer look while the Sigma lens has slightly cooler color tones. You won't regret buying either one.Read full review...

I don't recommend this lens!

This 24mm f1.4 L lens is horrible! I don't recommend it to anyone. Shame, shame, shame on Canon for not recalling this lens, or providing an extended warranty for defective units. The only L lens that has poor or defective auto-focus. I bought 2 copies from eBay and both have defective auto-focus. Wasted my time shopping for them, waiting for them, and ultimately sending them back. Anyway, I heard that older copies have this problem more pronounced than the newly manufactured ones. If this is true, then I suggest only buying the newer ones or even a brand new one that you can easily return. In my case, I'm completely done with this lens and I'm not interested in getting one anymore.Read full review...

Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 S.S.C. Aspherical

This lens represent a milestone in large aperture wide angle lens production back in 1975 when it first appeared. It was and still is the largest aperture lens of this focal length. The aspherical element effectively eliminate spherical abberations and simplifies lens design. The technology to mass produce aspherical elements was ground breaking. It required high precision tolerance of 0.1 micron, a technology developed by Canon back in 1971.
The selling price of this lens, when new, was astronomical so make this version particularly rare. The next 'L' version (identical formula) is more readily available but has lost the iconic status of this original one. Other similar products to follow are also from Canon. It was not until May 2010 that Nikon came up with a similar product, some 35 years later.
I first got to know this lens when I bought my AE-1 camera back in 1978. It is a long time dream come true when I encounter this item at ebay. It has sentimental value for me but practicality is near zero as it can not be used on any full frame digital camera to express its full ability. It will find a permanent place in my cabinet and will see the light when I take it out to take those occasional self fulfilling pictures.

great fast sharp lens.

sharp lens. very bright. used for an indoor concert with lights off. I was able to able to shoot at 1/20th of a second or faster. of course, this is for the wider shots, which was what I was looking for with this lens. Prior to purchasing, I read a lot of reviews comparing this to the 16-35mm f2.8 II, and was hesitant at first, but eventually went with the purchase. at f1.4 it has more vignetting that other lenses at f2.8. but at f2.8, it has less distortion and less vignetting. anyways, Lightroom and Photoshop can correct the little distortion and the vignetting, so there is no really worry there. it is well built, as expected from canon L glass. It doesn't have the zoom that the 16-35mm has, but prime lenses do have characteristically less distortion than zoom lenses. If you want a wide prime fast lens, This is the way to go.Read full review...

Artful Paintbrush

The Canon 24 f1.4 2 lens creates beautiful atmospheres. Its ability to capture lots of light is fantastic.

Amazing for staged interviews (video) because of its ability to separate subject from background.

I use a strong, high-quality ND filter in bright situations, even indoors sometimes.

This lens and the Canon 16-35 f4 IS are all i need to create entire films and campaigns.

I love it.

This is an amazing lens that is worth the price.

I bought this lens specifically for astro photography. The speed of this lens allows me to use short exposures to minimize star movement. As a practice, I stop down one stop to reduce coma and chromatic aberrations. These are common traits with all wide angle lenses, but are almost nonexistent with this lens. In addition to being a top performer in low-light situations, it is also excellent for landscapes and environmental portraits. It renders deep, saturated colors with plenty of contrast, and great depth of field. I haven't met a working professional photographer that doesn't love this lens.Read full review...

Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L is an excellent lens

This lens is fast. The build quality is superb. I have two cameras a 5D Mark II and 7D. The lens is crisp and is extremely useful in low light situations where you want to capture the natural light. Because this lens is fairly expensive, don't cheap out and get a low quality UV filter that could lower light transmission into the lens or create unwanted flare. Go with a high quality multi-coated B+W filter or Hoya Pro Digital filter. My images are sharp and the bokeh is smooth and gentle. Prime lenses are extremely quick to focus, and this is no exception. I love this lens.Read full review...

Canon 24mm f/1.4L Series

L series glass is rugged and sort of the Lexus of lenses. I found myself on model shoots using the 28mm side of my 28-135mm quite a bit. I wanted to get the entire model into the shot on fairly close-up situations. Using candles as sole illumination, you tend to use high ISO and wide open f-settings. I already had a 50mm f/1.4 but that was too long. The lens performs beautifully. I stop it down to f/2.2 or smaller to get more DOF in most situations but when I need it for candlelight, it gives me handhold-ability at f/1.4, ISO 800 to 1600 and about 1/60s. I shoot a Canon 30D. I just did a shoot with this lens as my main one. I am insanely happy with the 24mm f/1.4L; just have to remember to use other lenses occasionally.Read full review...

Focus on this Very Fair Purchase

Shopped for a month and found these lenses for all the same price range depending on the amount of wear. Decided to pay a couple of hundred more to get a very lightly used lens from a known highly ranked seller. Happy I did.Read full review...
