The perfect canon lens but....

The star attraction to this L series (Luxury) Canon lens is photo detail clarity which is amazing! This 24-70mm is an EF lens series meant for full frame bodies. I am using it on a cropped frame Canon EFS series so that gives me an effective 38-112mm lens which works great. The automatic focus is fast and nimble, and the barrel action is tight giving testimony to high quality seals. The deal breaker for some is the lack of IS or image stabilization. If you have shaky hands, consider a different lens with the IS feature. It may also be a good lens for fast action shots using a higher ISO and shutter speed. I only use this lens on a tripod to photograph artifacts and for that purpose, I could not find a better lens. The clarity with which I can zoom in to pick up individual specks of sand in stone is phenomenal.Read full review...

Better than I could have imagined

I went from a 50 mm prime lens to this lens and could not have been happier. This focal range is broad enough to allow for the same lens to be used across different applications from portraits to landscapes. It let's in so much light at f2.8! I recently took some photos at a pumpkin patch and had to shoot at f10 in order to be able to get a picture that wasn't overexposed!! Even without a speed light, I can take Photos inside, in low light, with perfect sharpness. The L series lenses are worth the money and this one is mind-blowing how good it is.Read full review...

Excellent, sharp lens for all applications

Have been using a Canon 24-105 f/4 for several years and I wanted a faster walk-around lens. While the 24-70 is more expensive and not any lighter, it does take amazingly sharp images. There is no IS - which is a bit of a disappointment, but keeping the shutter speed at a minimum of 1/125 I don't detect any motion shake. You can obviously go slower if you keep the focal length toward the lower range.

Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM

When both set at f2.8, this lens is sharper at the edges at 50mm than my prime 50mm f1.4, and that's saying a lot. This has less distortion, when opened 'wide', than the 24-105 f4 or 24-70 f4 and is a full stop faster than these. The zoom is also easier to navigate than the 24-105 as it doesn't have such a wide range, so is faster and easier to control your shot. The 9-blade diaphragm gives 18-point stars, which look great. Focuses down to under 8", which means that you won't be moving around as much to get just about any shot that comes your way.

The Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM is a great addition to a serious photographer's arsenal.

Great lens

I have the first generation of this lens, and it has gotten me some great images, but a friend let me borrow this newer version and man I couldn't believe how much sharper the images/color quality was. I'm glad I finally decided to get this lens, I wish that the lens hood was as deep as the previous generation. This new flower type of short hood doesn't work as well in certain angles.Read full review...

Superb lens for newer stabilized Canon RF bodies

With my Canon R5, I compared photos taken with the new RF 24-70 2.8 L to the EF 24-70 2.8 L II lens. With the R5 the difference in these lenses is quite small. The in body R5 stabilization is excellent with the older EF lens and for me the RF lens based stabilization did not support slower hand held shutter speeds. This may be different for you. Both lenses were very sharp and comparable in the corners. The RF lens does allow you to get a bit closer to the subject, but for me this is not that important.

If you are using a non stabilized RF body ( original R or RP ) I would recommended buying the new RF lens as the built in stabilization is very handy. If you have an in body stabilized R3, R5, R6 or R7, you might be better off buying an excellent condition used EF copy (II second generation), and use the savings on purchasing additional lens.

Both the EF and RF lenses are impressively good. In closing, if you have a stabilized body and own the EF 2.8 24-70mm II lens, I would find it hard to justify an upgrade.

Marvelous lens

The major superiority of Canon over any other brands is that you can own these kind of lenses.

Canon 24-70 L f2.8 ii
PROS
1. Sharpness in every focal length and at any focal length
2. Beautiful contrast
3. Great colors
4. Fast AF
5. Great control of flares
6. Lighter than it could be for this focal length
7. Build like a tank
CONS
1. It's quite silent when focusing but I expected totally silent focus motor
(e.g. My Canon ef-s 18-135 3.5/5.6 STM is totally silent when focusing)

P.S. It is very important to use cameras MICROADJUSTMENT so you can get the most out from the lens.

Canon EF 24-70mm 2.8 L II USM the new go to lens

I loved my Canon EF 24-70mm 2.8 L USM it was my go to lens. Version II takes photography to a whole new level. It is even faster when you are using auto focus to lock in your focal point. It is smaller and lighter than version I.Read full review...

excellent all around lens

The lens feels solid. Photos at ever focal length are razor sharp. I have held the lens with slower shutter speeds and I have yet to run into an issue with camera shake from the like of image stabilization.Read full review...
