Good Value, Photos sharper than I thought they'd be.

I bought a used Canon EF 75-300 f4-5.6 III Zoom lens. I'm using it on an old Canon 5E Mark II full frame camera. I was surprised because the lens tends to get some bad reviews. But, I only paid $80 for a lens that was basically new and the pictures are sharp as long as you hold the camera steady. Now for video, it's a little trickier because you really need to use a tripod to get the video smooth. It's harder to hold the camera still for videos with a lens like this. For my purposes, to get some photos of birds or something in the distance, I'm sure I'll take plenty of very good looking and sharp pictures with it. It's not a professional quality lens but it is much better than I thought it would be. Read full review...

Good enough for snap-shots, something better starts at $500.00.

"Is the image sharp"? Yes & no, from 75mm to 200mm image resolution is just acceptable, beyond that it's poor, edge focus is soft with noticeable colour fringing. This lens is for snap-shots & infrequent use. If Uncle Harry is a bit soft while standing off at the far end of a group shot no one will notice in a 4X6 print. Not so in an 8X10 print. The zoom action is just OK, autofocus is a bit laboured but manageable. Canon probably gets someone else to build this lens. What do you want for fifty bucks?Read full review...

Great lens for a great price!!

We upgraded to this canon Ef 75-300 mm lens and we couldnt be happier. This lens takes nice crisp pictures both at a distance and up close. See attached pics, last was taken at a distance of about 30 feet away. It takes nice pics both in black and white and in color the sharpness is the same. The only downfall of the lens to me is it is heavy but it is a large lens so that is to be expected. I am older so it is hard to hold steady at times however I knew this when buying so it is no fault of the lens or of cannon. It is a great lens for the beginner and yet takes pics nice enough to frame and display in your living room. The first picture below was enlarged and is sitting on my mantel Read full review...

Great product

Fast shipping and great price! Just what I needed for my mountain pictures! I could zoom into the other mountain and see the shutters on another cabin! I wasn’t being creepy; that’s the only thing other than trees I could test the total focus with. It wasn’t very sharp at that zoom but clear enough too tell the shutters and the color on the cabin. So this will be great for long distance photos at games and other places too! Read full review...

Very Good Film Camera Lens

This lens is not a high-quality, precision instrument by Canon, but I knew that going in. I purchased this for my 1990's film camera. (Lens technology has since improved unbelievably.) I got what I expected and it works very well. It replaces an old beat up, unusable Sigma lens. This lens is brand new and very reasonably priced.Read full review...

Great value.

It easily shows the grits on roof shingles at 40 feet away, as when mounted on my Samsung NX500 on a Canon adapter. Only too bad that with adapter, only manual focus is possible. But focus peaking does help with that. Again with adapter, there is no way to control its aperture. Overall though, a good lens worthy of its brand.Read full review...

Good Magnification

The Canon 75-300 mm lens is well made, gives good magnification & affordable. Lens does, what it's supposed to and the 75-300 mm is needed for astrophotography. People don't like it because in their opinion, it's cheap. It isn't though, "those just live in a country, without a space programme or SAT." They can't do better.

It's a good lens and I recommend it. This is for astrophotography anyway. I would have gave it 5 stars but the focus ring doesn't lock in-place & the technology is actually dated, as with all others.

A good lens

A pretty good lens for older Canon bodies. The autofocus is quick and fairly quiet. Very little wandering looking for focus. Not the fastest lens but decent for outdoors and the price. I bought it for an old EOS 620 which I'm going back to when I get into a retro mood. I've seen other newer Canon lenses which were absolute trash in comparison. I would recommend this lens to anybody looking for one in this range.Read full review...

solid and easy to attach

Amazing addition to my Canon camera. The quality of photos and the easy of focus makes this a real bargain. The ability to zoom in on far away things and see then like they are right in front of my eyes... WowRead full review...

For the money I'm extremely pleased

I saw plenty of reviews dissing this lens, but for an entry level hobbiest, it's perfect. I'm using it on a cropped sensor T3i and can find nothing wrong the photos I've taken. Let the snobs spend hundreds for similar focal length. If you're like me and just like taking pictures, go for it.Read full review...

Probably the Greatest Lens Value of ALL TIME!!!!

This has got to be the greatest lens value of all time.
It fits almost every Canon camera made in recent times and produces wonderful pictures throughout the focal length range. It is reasonably fast enough to be used in most situations and will certainly be more than good enough for almost everyone until they know exactly why they want to spend a good deal more money on a lens. Even then, in most situations this lens will be more than up to the task for most photos anyone is likely to take, As it is most likely far lighter than that "big buck lens that might be in the bag", it will be far easier to carry around and use.
While I have lenses that cost thirty times as much as this one, I still use this lens all the time.
