Compatible with Canon EF and FD lenses.

For those who are long time Canon system owners-users with EF and FD (manual focus) lenses, this allows image making with these lenses. The idea of mirror less camera is intended to be small, light weight, compact with good digital image quality using the M3 with Canon EF -L series lenses dwarfs the camera but maintains image quality and usability of both EF and FD lenses. Supporting the lens with M3 attached is a must as the M3 body mount has no possible way to hold a Canon 70-200mm f2.8L, 300mm f2.8 or similar lens. Using the M3 with manual Canon FD lenses requires setting the camera to "fire with no lens" or nothing happens when used with non-electronic lenses.
This was the prime reason for purchase. Digital image quality is good. Really little to disagree about here. HD video quality is good too. User interface is much like other Canon digital cameras making the transition easier for those who have owned-used other Canon digital cameras.

Much like other modern mirror less cameras today, it has a pile-O-features that the majority of users might never use. What is important, actual image making is simple once the camera has been set up. Highly recommended to add the electronic view finder or a viewing hood like the Swivi (bulky but fits good enough) normally used with DSLRs as it has the same problem with all view screen cameras in sunlight, mostly useless view ability of the image to be created.

Really a bargain for what this mirror less camera cost relative to it's performance overall. Only time will tell how well it holds up and endures over the test of time.

A Step in the wrong direction

Does it have good mage quality; yes. Is it easy to use; yes. Is it well constructed given it's target users; yes. However, the M3 feels like a small step backwards.

It's form factor has changed, less to my liking. The menu system has been altered, when the original was quick and easy. The touch screen is not as responsive (I've set the sensitivity setting) as it's predecessors. The adding of a programmable FN button is in a had to access area of the body. A useless flash is included. The location of the video record button on the M3 is too easy to accidentally press; and I keep hitting it with my thumb.

Oh, if I could only take out the 24mp sensor in the M3 and drop it in my M2....

Canon EOS M3 a vast improvement

The Canon EOS M3 is a vast improvement over the previous Canon M. Better feel, easier controls, faster focus and minimized shutter lag are welcomed improvements. It appears that Canon is slowly acknowledging the mirrorless camera market. With all of the updates, Canon still has a ways to go. For now, the M3 is a good workable camera but additional refinements are needed to get it to the top of the category.Read full review...

Canon EOS M3, overlooked bargain

It depends on what you're shooting. I would not use this camera for any kind of action shots, but for landscapes and studio shots, it does the job. I love touch focus. Once you've used it, it would be hard to go back. Canon does color better than anyone I think. Is it realistic, no, it's better. It's like Kodachrome, it's a bit more saturated and pumped up, but in a good way. Most Canons I've used have a tendency to focus a bit behind where I want to focus, but the touchscreen ends that problem. My only real complaint about the camera is the lack of a cable release. I have the remote, but the $6 battery went dead in twenty minutes of use, so that's not an option. I am reduced to using the self-timer. I can do that, but if Canon wants to be taken seriously in the mirrorless market, they need to provide a cable port and release. I'm not keen on the small plastic wheel around the shutter that changes one's aperture or shutter speed. It just feels very fragile. Honestly, in many ways, I feel Nikon builds a better body, but they're not even competing in the mirrorless arena. Read full review...

WOW

I'm in love with this little camera,, I have larger heavier camera's but this one is smaller, lighter and quicker than any of my more expensive cameras. The images are sharp and require little or no post processing, in my humble opinion..Read full review...

Great Camera!

Was looking for a decent used mirrorless camera as a backup. Needed good sharp pics, and at least 1080 60fps. This EOS M3 fits the bill perfectly. Amazing sensor, and super easy controls. Auto Focus is very good, but I am really enjoying the manual mode. Getting a lot of very cool depth of field effects.
Bought a couple of good lenses to match, and now have a great little lightweight system. Sharp video & crisp sound. Got an adapter, & a C mount 28mm CCTV lense, and am having a blast with some awesome macro! Love it!
Highly Recommended!

I love this camera

Very sharp image, easy user interface, wifi is very handy, love the screen, very affordable, high resolution, perfect size, awesome for everyday use. I use to walk around with a big dslr and now I feel so discreet with this little camera and it doesn't attract so much attention but takes just as good or better image qualityRead full review...
