Buying Cannon Camera's For Parts
What can I say. These cannon cameras are for parts. I find these cameras to be a very efficient way to use as an ebay tool. Parts are simple to find as you can see. The device is simple to use (point & shoot). Easy to understand. Battery life is average, use a charger and your set for years of great pictures. The price of these cannons is the best part. Very inexpensive! You can find a good one with your eyes closed on ebay for $100.00 I have paid anywhere from $10.00 to $100.00 Real reliable. However beware of sellers listing broken cannon cameras. Lot of that out there. Anyway,if you are looking for a super clean close-up this camera is not going to work. It will take a great close-up but it will never come close to true photography. A close-up lens will take you to a percentage of around 72%. Wide-angle lens a must for any outdoor camera. And for this one a must. These extras price for almost nothing. Each lens can be had for as little as $25.00 each. Keep in mind, if a super close-up is what your after go to a cannon with 10 pixels. Upgrade from an old buddy.
For a long time, I had a PowerShot A75. After 5 years it stopped working, and I stumbled across the A85. The camera fits in the same waterproof housing, takes the same flash card, and uses the same USB cord as the old A75. Kudos to Cannon for making cameras in generations, so accessories are somewhat interchangeable. The major difference between the two, picture quality is so much better!! If you have the choice, pick A85. Be aware, on both the A75 and A85 the screen is smaller than newer digital cameras like the Nikon Coolpix, but that saves room for a viewfinder (photographers rejoice!). Also, the A85 has a lot more buttons than the Nikon, but that means less time scrolling through on-screen menus. Overall, it's humble by todays pixel-standards, but a solid camera. I'm hoping for several good years out of it, I love it! Missing one star only for the small screen, which I believe they enlarged on later models.Read full review...
Great Camera!
This was my first digital camera and I really missed it when it broke down 2 yrs ago. I was so happy to find this Canon A85 listed for such a good price. It fits my larger hand well and it takes wonderful clear images. I prefer the compact flash card to the duo of the newer digitals. It uploads with ease to my computer.Read full review...
glad you had the camera hope it takes and holds pictures
the card in the camera shows the picture its to take but then it goes to a tiny slim version, hope the new memory card I found fixes this problem.
Just as promised
I bought this camera to fit into a case that I have that alllows me to use it underwater. My old camera had seen better days but the underwater case is still good. This camera is the perfect fit and had a great price tag!Read full review...
Glad to find another A85 to replace in waterproof case.
I bought my first A85 some years ago. Later I bought a waterproof case for it. Recently I dropped the camera and broken it, so I needed to buy another one to use with the case. The one I bought now was refurbished, working very good. I took good pictures. I am satisfied I found the camera many years later.Read full review...
Many in the crowd of ailing A85s.
By the sheer number of A85s for sale one ought to notice owner's willingness to move on to a different model! Functional problems tend to annoy and frustrate after a decent 2-to-3-year run. Any used A85 needs a stamp of Canon's seal of refurb approval, that's how common was the nuisance of this digital camera.

Not expensive but ultimately not useful either.
The camera arrived promptly and in good visual condition. I purchased this camera as it fits an underwater housing I have. Unfortunately, it showed dead lines on many of the photos, a fairly common problem with older Canon cameras. I stopped using the camera and switched back to an old A75 for my underwater photography.Read full review...
Good camera with backing of a great company
Read lots of reviews and Canon has an excellent reputation. Add to that a wilingness to make it right if something goes wrong. It is a winning combination.

took a chance buying used and goofed .. canon is usually a good brand so, being a novice, I thought I'd by a used one to practice on - only prob is I can't get this one to work ..
